HIT routine

i bought a book called the new high intensity training and i followed a workout today for the first time and got a good pump, but it doesn't seem like 8 exercises and about a half hour in the gym would be good enough to do anything. anybody have any good results from a HIT routine?

What was the routine? I haven't seen that book, so I don't know the specifics. Post up what the game plan is, what your goals are, and your stats.

first day was leg curl, leg extensions, leg press, bench press, shrug, barbell bicep curl, then alternate chin ups and dips. there's many different ones and specialized cycles such as the thigh cycle to focus more on legs and so on. there's too many workouts to post but i'm following the on i did today for weeks 1 and 2. u do MWF workout but u don't go to failure on Wednesdays.

weeks 3 and 4 focus on smaller muscles like neck calf and wrist exercises with some incline bench bent over rows, then week 6 follows the same type of thing but is a negative only routine

What do you want to accomplish? What are the sets and reps for these exercises, and do you the same thing each day for weeks 1-2?

it's 1 set per exercise and try to get 12 reps but with absolutely perfect form with slow reps and work till failure on every exercise. the intensity of it is supposed to be why it works better than the standard 3-4 sets.

Did this workout come with a free Shamwow?

you've never heard of a HIT routine? its the type of routine dorian yates used. it was also used by franco columbo and it was a routine that arnold pussed out on when he met and worked out with the guy that invented it. he said arnold would never push himself to the max but columbo did and stuck with it

So how was your intensity? Usually when starting a new program of any kind takes a week or two to figure out what your working weights will be, so stick it out if you want. You should make sure that rep 12 is a do or die rep, or you might not get the most out of it.

Are you doing a couple warm up sets also? Or just 1 set period and done?

i'm warming up a little first, then into the routine and 1 set. u can definately feel it like crazy while ur doing it, but like u said today was more of an experiment day to figure out what weights i'll need. i usually barbell curl with 30lbs on each side for my last set but with this i had 15 on each side and barely got 12. 20lbs on each side next time and i should be perfect. i'm really looking forward to see what the all negative routine will do for 2 weeks

The part about the neck and wrist exercises seem a bit hokie to me though. If it seems like it will get you to your next goal, have at it. Something different every now and then is good.

it's not the only thing you do. it's incorporated in with chest and legs and back too

HIT training has been around since the 70's. i wouldn't say specifically that is what dorian yeates did, he did his own thing, with a lot of HIT principles. many traditional HIT workout stress body part with one exercise and do more of the body per day. dorian did more of a traditional Chest/bi, legs, shld/tri, back/traps type of routines each trained once a week. and not just barbell for chest but machines, etc... so a chest workout could be bench, hammer machine, db fly, machine fly instead of just a HIT bench exercise.

i think before going on to HIT you should try AST sports MAX-OT to get the principles in your head and learn what intensity truly is.

then on to how dorian trained or a variation of HIT or even DC training

for example you said "first day was leg curl, leg extensions, leg press, bench press, shrug, barbell bicep curl, then alternate chin ups and dips"

--> not a very good split in my opinion. any program advocating chest and legs on the same day regardless of training technique would be thrown out so fast. if i did 1 set of leg press to 100% intensity no way my chest is going to get a good workout that day

u do that routine monday, do another one wednesday and then the monday one on friday, then next monday u do the wednesday one and so on. i wasn't saying this is the exact routine yates used but he did use his own variation of a HIT routine. which i don't think would be good for me because i'm not a bodybuilding freak who can handle and recover from that type of work out he did
