TATTOO TIPS!

For those with some ink and continue to get ink, how much do you tip your guy? I have an appt in 2 days and i never know what to tip him. Just want to see what an average is. last couple times I went I tipped him 30 bones.

Most everybody I know tips based on how good it looks/if you'll be back. Just a little while ago my friend got a $300 tatoo, and tipped the guy $100 because it looks so good. On the other hand; his first tatoo, from a tatoo party, looks like poo poo and he just paid the straight fee, no tip.

It depends. The first couple were shops with a few guys. I would usually throw them 20 bucks. Over the last couple years the guys doing them are the owners so I just give them the straight rate seeing that all the money goes into their pocket

I go with $20 bucks for the low end, if i like it more i go with more. But i am unreasonably cheap as well...

I usually got with around 50 or so. It also depends on the cost of the tattoo and whether or not you'll be going back. The first time I ever went to my current artist, I really liked the quality of the tattoo, so I tipped her well. The same thing the 2nd time I went. Now when I go, the front desk guy will give me an "estimate" on the tattoo price. Then I go to the back to start the session, my artist sees it's me, and she drops the price for me (this has happened exactly like I said above 3 times now). If you want to be taken care of next time, tip well.

I just brought my guy a few red bulls, but I paid a premium price for work varying from just decent upto really good, in that order, not the other way around.

Interesting. I would never have thought of tipping, lol. Guess I am glad I don't have any tats. :)

Actually i hardly ever remember tipping but the same guy has done most of my body so he gets alot of my biz and i always bring other people to him too he is also the owner

it's funny i'm a tattoo artist and a lot people really don't think about tipping most of the time. but even if the person is the owner of the shop (like my wife and i are) tipping is still a good practice. tips don't get reported and the actual tattoo does.

This is pretty much commonplace I think. I've always thrown them a 20, though most of mine never went much over 200 bucks at a time.

My only tat right now is an M16 on the bikini line area, pointing to my junk. Tipped him 40$. Cost 100$ for it.

Probably next tat is Eagle, Globe and Anchor on my left chest.
