College Football 2008 season

Looks like Kevin Steele, Alabama's co-defensive coordinator, is headed to Clemson to be their DC. I'm not really concerned about Bama's defense, because Saban pretty much runs the show on that end... but Steele is one helluva recruiter. He's won national recruiting awards on several occasions, including this past year.

On the positive side of things, check out Trent Richardson, a 5-star running back out of Florida who's committed to the Tide:

This kid had a 419-yard, 6-TD game this season. Stud.

well..........thats it!!!! zone defense doesnt work against usc....and penn st sat down in the 2nd qtr...ya cant do that against usc...i do like how PS moved the ball at times though.

Its good that you can find something positive for PS in that game. Weren't they picked to possibly play in the N.C. game during the first half of the season?

You can't defend against that kind of passing and if you go zone you leave the running game wide open. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

You play zone when you don't have the speed to match up man-to-man. That game, once again, exposed how relatively slow Big Ten secondaries are outside of their conference. Georgia's coaching staff figured this out in the second half yesterday, and proceeded to stop handing off to Moreno and went to work on Michigan State's corners. Big Ten teams are hosed when the other squad can throw the ball and stop the run. Same ol', same ol'.

So... I hope you Big 12 guys watched a little preview of what to expect in the Nat'l Championship Game. So much for the absurd arguments about Florida not being worthy to be there. Ole Miss, the team the Gators lost to by a single point, handed it to Texas Tech today. You know... the team who beat Texas.

Keep trying to tell me playing an SEC schedule doesn’t mean anything. This was a perfect example of what will typically happen to an 11-1 Big 12 team when they're put against an 8-4 SEC team.

Btw... a couple of Tech's big boys on the OL were acting like babies at the end! Maybe they bought in to the poll showing 94% of America picked them to win.

Summary and conclusion:

SEC > Big 12 :head:

Yup, that one florida blemish doesn't look as bad as people had initially thought for certain. Ole Miss was actually pretty damn impressive this year overall.

Bring on OU, the gators are due for their next feeding!! :food:

Trauma, with all this cheerleading I've been doing for the Gators... you better be wearing crimson tonight, buddy!:p I'm a little worried about the Bama O-line, and I read that Saban has been lighting into the players all week about taking Utah lightly. I know the Utes are aware of what happened to Hawaii last year, and they've got a huge chip on their shoulder.

Roll Tide, baby!!!:hammer:

SEC with one loss so far. Although a 6-6 Kentucky team is having a tough time with 9-4 East Carolina. Ole Miss just destroyed an 11-1 big 12 team. wow. Who said the SEC was down this year.

BTW UGA is now 7-0 against the big ten.

Thank God that ESPN picked up the BCS bowl contract, and we only have to suffer through one more year of these clowns on FOX. I mean, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and (gulp) Chris Rose... they barely have a brain between them. Seriously, I had to switch over to the Kentucky-ECU game, only because I can't bear listening to the nonsensical ramblings from those tools. You know it's bad when I long for Mark May and Lou Holtz!!!:toofunny:

Oh... and Kenny Albert is just horrible in the booth. Play-by-play shouldn't be done by a guy with a speech impediment.

well, kentucky pulled out the win....holy crap rubbering what's wrong with your boys? 14-0 already. You guys gotta carry the SEC flag tonight.

Dude, I had a bad feeling about this one. I've been reading all week about Saban being furious about the lack of intensity at practices. They look like hell. If they keep playing like this, it could get ugly... and they'll deserve it.

Looks like the Tide just walked into the perfect storm.

uh!!!:gore:

plenny, my friend... go ahead and blast me. Bama is just embarrassing themselves and their confernece right now. I cannot believe their defense looks this clueless. The O-line is in shambles. They're not exactly built to come from behind either. This isn't really happening, is it?

Well... since Coffee isn't doing anything... I'm switching to beer.

If we can keep running it we stand a chance.

Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson will get us nowhere

Don't get me wrong... I think you're a troll... but you're right about Wilson. He's at his worst when he isn't being a "game manager" and thinks he has to make plays. Thankfully, he hasn't had to be a playmaker this season. When he did against Florida... he predictably threw the INT. Take the last play of the half, for example... just throw it away!!! That was a field goal wasted. No way Saban puts McElroy in though, even though he's a much better passer.

It's possible for a Bama comeback, but they'd better get their sh#t together... and hope for another Arenas punt return... or an INT return.

I'm trying to keep the faith over here.

Do you have some sort of problem with a knowledgeable Bama fan being in here? Get off your high horse. You're an idiot.

28-17 not looking good. The ONE SEC game I felt most confident about today is not looking good. They are completely stopping the Bama run right now.

Gotta call it like it is... Utah's just beating them up in the trenches. I can't believe Bama looks this soft. If Tiffin could hit a FG, it would be 28-23 right now.

Congrats to the Utah Utes. My hat's off to them. They earned this victory, and took advantage of a shellshocked Bama team.

Not the way I wanted the Tide to end the season... 0-2. Ughhh.

Didn't think that was going to happen

I totally underestimated their running game

I totally underestimated their running game

Don't get me wrong, 'cause I'm not making excuses... but this was in no way representative of the way Bama's played defense all year. I have no idea what happened, other than the fact that they just practiced soft and totally underestimated their opponent. The corners never turned around to see the ball all night, Cody wasn't a presence on the D-line, and the tackling was just dreadful. It was frustrating to watch. Congrats to Utah though, for a perfect season.

Cody wasn't on the DL because he is a runstopper.

They were passing. Show your Bama knowledge my friend.

Now the question is UT or OSU?

I'm going with UT

Well, Pat Nix got nixed today. Any rumors on his replacement, jmh?

EDIT: Wtf is going on in Miami? Now Marve's leaving and wants to transfer to an SEC school.

Lots of rumors - I'm just now reading them. Not heard or seen anything I'd consider "real". Just names thrown out that sometimes make sense.

This Marve situation is beyond strange. He can't transfer to UF/UT/LSU (or any other team in the state) because of contact between him or his people and those teams.

I got a text while I was on vacation - the kid's grades were beyond BAD.

I read that part of his release was "No transfers to ACC or SEC teams".

Damn rubbering, i wasn't expecting that to happen. Hats off to utah though, they played a fine game.

I read that part of his release was "No transfers to ACC or SEC teams".

He and his people protested all over the radio and anywhere they could be heard.

It was lowered as far as SEC teams to anyone BUT UF/UT/LSU as those schools had contact with him or his people.

ACC and state of FLA did stay.

Rubber,
Interesting game of Cal-Miami. I thought we settled in well after the 1st Q on offense.
Still clearly have trouble stopping an RB that can run outside. Our LB's are great up the middle (see beating VaTech) but not great on the side to side running game.

Pretty much Cal played out like I thought. Best and that was pretty much it. The D was better than I thought.

The last fumble by Jacory Harris was the difference. That drive looked bad before he fumbled.

Anyway - a good game by both teams. I don't think either had a reason to hang their head's.

Happy New Year btw, J!

Cody didn't get many snaps off the ball; they ran so many passing plays...he was in and out of the lineup.

Utah just had tremendously large, fast, WR. I haven't seen that many large fast guys on one team in a few years. Even their RB was tall and thick (sorta). They were just running through the tackles that we were making, and also, we missed several tackles.

I didn't see bama go up against a team this year with sizable WR's in EVERY position that could actually catch the ball as well. UF had speed guys, but Utah seemed to have those tall, thick guys with, seemingly, great hands. Poor tackling on the tide also...

Can't make up excuses, but damn, I figured Marquis would have been the one missing tackles and getting burned...but this time it was Kareem...WOW! They just looked shocked and confused early on...Utah did a decent job of mixing it up early on..

Im basically done for this year...hope everyone's team does what ever you are expecting or hoping them to do...good luck; Im turning the season off till next year.

Uhhh... that's kind of the point of my statement, sheltonstatecommunitycollegedrummer2016... or is it typicaltuscaloosatard? Dude, I've forgotten more than you know about Alabama football. You can't even remember the last time Bama was in the Sugar Bowl. You were like, what... 3 years old? You're pure entertainment. Go "bang a gong" or something. (Google it, college boy.)

It was a great game to be at. Cal's QB was pathetic, as usual. They'd get the run game going, and then Tedford would have Longshore try to throw on 1st down. Didn't go over too well in the stands. I'm still not convinced the guy who caught the game-winner was even his intended receiver!

I gotta be honest here...Utah has a valid argument for a number 1 spot. Only undefeated team....beat a strong Alabama team (handily) I might add. No offense 'Bama fans.

Funny that you're insulting the intelligence of someone who attends the institution that you are a fan of. Did you even go to college? I started following UA football in the year 2000. Are you a better fan than me because you are older?

**** you. You're an idiot.

Turban apparently called his people and wanted him to come to UF.

Marve is a gunslinger. Shannon doesn't value that, hence why Jacory Harris will be the starter in spring ball.

But there's more than just the above as to why he left. Their dealing with the media is frankly retarded. Like 3 or 4 people making statements on his behalf.

I wish the kid luck but he's a lot of work for a staff.

Oh man. 'Bama hurt me so bad last night.

The one bowl game I thought was a total lock for the SEC and then that happens.

'Bama just looked like they didn't want to be there. Not in the Sugar Bowl. They wanted to be in the national championship. Utah, on the other hand, wanted to be there.

I just couldn't believe how sluggish and apathetic they looked. And Saban's play calling definitely was not helping.

Outplayed and outcoached- even though they had better athletes and better coaches. There's no excuse for that.

Hell, we would have lent y'all Stafford and Moreno if we knew this was gonna' happen. ;)

I guess the thUg life wasn't working out for him.

The kid has talent (marve), so i actually hope it works out for him as well. He'd be a great addition to UF, but john brantley is a fairly decent replacement when tebow is gone.

Funny that you're insulting the intelligence of someone who attends the institution that you are a fan of.

You've used the word intelligence several times now... which means you must be really insecure about your mental capacity. See, really intelligent people don't normally go around pointing it out. They let others come to that conclusion. You're pretty transparent in that regard. So let's be frank... intelligence isn't exactly your strongpoint, Forrest.

Also, I'm a fan of the football team... not UA academics. Big difference. If I were going to pull for a team based on the intelligence of the school's population, then I'd stick with Cal or Stanford... both of which are only minutes away from me, incidentally. You're not exactly attending an elite institution when it comes to education, so let's be honest about that. Not that they're aren't extremely bright people in Tuscaloosa... you're just not one of them. Speaking of honesty, are you going to try telling me you're a drummer in the Million Dollar Band... and that you brought your laptop to the game last night, just to trade barbs with me?

Did you even go to college?

Yes... and I've earned several degrees. I also found the time and courage to serve my country, and to attain a teaching credential. What about you? PM me your address and I'll send you my transcripts... and you can send me yours.

Are you a better fan than me because you are older?

Just better, period. It really doesn't have to do with age. Call it a west coast elitist snubbing.;)

**** you. You're an idiot.

See, here's the difference between me and you... I never say anything on here I wouldn't say straight to the person's face. I'm 100% sure you would never say that to me on your most confident day. But I get it, tough kid... your lack of intelligence or wit brings you to that kind of a cop-out.

The young are permanently in a state resembling intoxication. -Aristotle

And no... that doesn't mean Keystone Light, drummer boy.:nono:
:lol::lol::lol:

I've got no snappy comebacks for you guys. You're absolutely right... and I'm really disappointed that they didn't have a champion's mindset yesterday. I better not read about the Tide using that as an excuse either. Hell, USC had nothing to prove in the Rose Bowl, and they came out all fired up. As much as I rag on the Trojans, they would've beaten Bama 77-0 last night. I'm at a loss, really. I thought they were further along than that.

If there's any silver lining to this, it's that Saban is embarrassed. His ego won't stand for it, so I look for them to be prepared against Virginia Tech in August. Having an intelligent and reliable QB that they won't have to downgrade to "game manager" will be nice too.

You probably saw this, but here's Wetzel's scathing commentary on the Marve situation:

Does Ol Miss have an opening coming up? They had a pretty solid year.

Frankly - yet another article written by a tool working for Rivals and I think orchestrated by Marve's people.

Really now - where's the article on Florida State when they didn't let Brandon Warren (TE) out (OUT) of his scholarship 3 years ago???
He wanted to go to Tennessee, where he's from, because his Mom was sick (plus some other stuff).

I could give 2 sh*ts what that moron thinks. High and mighty but only when Miami does it. That's f*cking retarded.

You want to hear Marve's GPA? Less than a 2.0. He's not a student (that was bandied about quite often).

The kid isn't a model citizen. Of course he'd deny any contact with UF/UT/LSU. Meanwhile people saw him TALKING to Lane Kiffin at a high school football game.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

There's more than meets the eye. If you looked around at his father's commentary (and the Plant head coach) you'd see they really changed their tone when they realized they should stop beating this "unjust" drum because the facts could be brougt to light (and they are facts that Marve wouldn't want other schools to find out, IMO).

Blah blah blah. Whine whine whine.

Quit throwing INT's and sending 4 different people to talk to the media, Robert. Learn to stay within the offense and quit throwing INT's.
I'm really tired of all this crap from his camp.

Like I said I wish the kid well, but he's a lot of work.
