If fiber is too low you could always try adding in some psyllium husk or inulin fiber into your diet between a meal or two. If you haven't tried psyllium before, I'd say mix it in juice/crystal light as opposed to just plain water. The taste of it by itself takes some getting used to.

I'm sure it goes without saying that with 270+g protein you're drinking A LOT of water every day? Don't need kidney stones at 25.

My fiber is normally okay but the last few days I havent hit it. I'm really only shooting for between 25g - 40g or so. I've been right around 20g for a few days.
 
You can function normal at 25-40g? Regular folk should get 35+ and us exercising folk should get 40+

I'm alright with slightly lower levels. I don't think the fiber intake is really that high on the list of priorities honestly. I've done a lot of researching publically...as well as with my own body...and have been perfectly fine being low with it.
 
I function better when I'm at least 60g. I can tell if I'm below 60g, funny ole world ain't it?

I just added up my macros for the day and it seems that I was being so ridiculously conservative that I went low for at least 400 cals.

Worst part is...I know i'm trying to fight the urge for Carbs and all....but I finished with less than 30g ALL DAY

That was dumb.

11/15/08 - Day 41

Overview :Okay so today I was stupid. I wasn't feeling much hunger throughout the entire day anyway....but I missed some key vitals because of trying to keep carbs really low. Dummy.

I guess it's not ALL bad though because tomorrow night is exactly 1.5 years that my girlfriend and I are together (which is the longest either of us have been with anyone) so we are going out for dinner...which means i'm sure i'll eat something i'm not supposed to.

Saturday - Work Sucks!:

For the last few days I have dialed down the Virile Mane to only once a day application. I spoke with Dsade and my face was getting very flush with 2 applications a day which he seems to think means I am slightly sensitive to the raspberry ketones. Once a day is working fine...and will be even better once I order the shampoo (it's out of stock at NP:frustrate)

I'm not sure if there's one in Ohio...but I live in PA ;).

It's the first stand-alone casino in PA but there are other small time ones that are attached to race tracks and stuff. The Sands corporation is building a REAL large one about 35 minutes away from where I live thats supposed to open next summer.

We don't have any in Ohio. You have to cross the river here to find any. But I can see a reason to visit Mr Deuce ;)

haha well I could see where the guests would enjoy the casino...the games are okay, the rooms are gorgeous, and the food is great.

However...it sucks a big Arse to manage there.
 
I really don't enjoy gambling at all. Being a single parent to my 3 kids so long has taught me to value money.

But going and playing a few slots, enjoying a nice room and good food, thats a nice break for me. Raising 3 kids also comes with a ton of stress!

PS - I think the destination for tonight's meal with my girlfriend is going to be Don Pablo's. I'm not sure if this is a chain that any of you are familiar with...but it's similar to a Chi Chi's. Decent mexican food. My girlfriend said she is craving cheesy and spicy....so Pablo's it is!

We ended up stayin in and I cooked Mexican. I'm a far better culinarian than anyone at these restaurants anyway ;)
 
11/16/08 - Day 42

Overview :Today was my girlfriend and I's 1.5 year anniversary so that was cool. We were planning to go out for dinner but we ended up deciding on staying in and I cooked for us and her family. She wanted something Mexican inspired and spicy so I used 93% lean beef and made a spicy, cheesy, oniony, mix of items and then diced up some romaine and tomatoes and bought some tortillas and that was that. I personally ate mine without the Tortilla which kept my cheat merely to fats instead of fats AND carbs. I am totally amped about that development since it kept in line with my goals right now....and I went a bit high on fats in my totals..but otherwise, you wouldn't have even known it was a "cheat" day for me!

No workout today...just watched the Giants ROLL the Ravens and hung out with my girlfriend and her daughter. The theme of the day was Play-Doh....so that was fun :)

Sunday - Football!:
Giants r@ped, bum a$$ Eagles tied Cincy, and the Skins and Cowgirls are pounding each other...life is good.

*** just a quick note :
I have re-added NOW Glucomannaninto my supplementation. It helps with hunger a bit which on some days is essential for me....but I really re-added it for it's dietary fiber benefits without having any synthetics mixed up in there. Hopefully this will give me around another 6g of fiber a day if I take them before major meals...and that will bring me up over the little barrier i've been fighting on my "cut"
 
What are your thoughts on supplementary fiber? Do you feel that it can impede/reduce absorption of foods/supplements or it's just gonna make you more regular?

I really haven't researched the effects enough to give you an honest answer really. If it's from a natural source, then I can't see it as a very poor idea...but as far as things like metamucil and the like that all have fake sweeteners and synthetics involved...those aren't for me.
 
I hear ya, the stuff I've read lead me to try and hit the fiber between meals, or immediately after if I'm eating dirty. :lol:

That way there is no chance of it getting in the way.

edit: all of that is assuming supplemention of psyllium, inulin, FOS for additional fiber.

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on really...i've been low as heck for a few days straight now.

I'm not concerned though...it's working out well for my goals. Funny thing is....seems almost ALL of my snack food was carbs...since I lowered them dramatically, the cals came down too, haha
 
Speaking of cheats, I need one of those. I haven't had a cheat meal in about four weeks. I've been too busy to go out to eat, and I don't think I know how to cook anything unhealthy...

Edit: My cheat meals these days usually consist of a lot of Triscuits and refried black bean dip...so basically I'm just getting in a lot of whole grains, fiber, and incomplete proteins. :lol:
 
my "cheat" today was lean ground beef sauteed with onions, spices, and a lot of pepper jack cheese over some romaine lettuce and diced tomatoes.

I finished with a Breyer's real fruit popsicle...lol
 
Irish Weekends really seem to be a thing of the past for me. The last time I drank hard was at the Flogging Molly concert, the last time I even had a DROP of alcohol was probably about a month ago, and as I said, the last cheat meal I've had was about four weeks ago. Crazy! Feels great though.

I haven't had a drink in longer...but my birthday is coming right around the corner. I haven't decided whether i'm drinking on my birthday or not. If I don't...my next drink should be next to you and hopefully some others (millennium1, ncangey, dsade, crader, FoG, to name a few) from the boards

Sounds good, man! I'll probably crack a bottle of Cab on Thanksgiving, but other than that I don't see myself having much alcohol anymore. When I travel I will just because I enjoy having a Guinness when I visit pubs around the country. Usually my trips are on my weeks off from the gym, so it just fits.

Haha! Yumskies. Isn't that an Irish Car Bomb? I've never had one, but I always order one for friends for their b-days.

I was at a bar the other week, not drinking but with some friends that were, and my brother and I seem to set the standards for everyone around us, so all of our friends are drinking Guinness now. It must have rubbed off on the entire crowd at the bar. I swear by the end of the night, every dude in that joint had a Guinness in their hand. It made me so happy. I think there was a tear.

11/17/08 - Day 43

Overview :I did something very well today. I ATE!!! I wasn't over cals or anything...but I just ate...and then ate some more. It was delightful! The only thing that would have made my numbers perfect is if I took in slightly less fat, and ate an apple. I'd still have been under on cals as well as carbs with an apple...and it would have put my fiber in a decent place. Fiber was low again.

Had training with my AFL hopeful today. He started the day by apologizing for slacking lately. That's good...because I was VERY close to telling him to pack in his cleats. We had a good day though. I didn't take down specifics of what we did...but I can remember most of it.

Monday - AFL Training Session!:
Started out by doing some High Knees and Bear Crawls to get loose. Went immediately into short yardage receiving drills with some additional blocking as well as play action work. After that we then did some medicine ball tosses (chest pass, overhead pass, walking chest pass, walking overhead pass) to each other. After that I had him do some additional core work with the medicine ball. After that I had him doing some HIIT between high knees, jogs, and sprints. Closed out with some stretching and conversation.

Fat- 117.4g - 1,056cals - 39 %
Carbohydrates- 100.3g - 396cals - 15 %

^^^ The dinner (first dinner that is) I made tonight. Sauteed Chicken Breast with sweet peas, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. It was delicious.

I have felt so much better lately. I'm not sure if it's the reduction of carbs or if it's the fact that because I reduced carbs, I have increased protein?! Maybe it's the Gut Health settling in and kicking some arse?! Maybe it's none...who knows?! Either way, I feel fantastic. Much lighter on my feet...and my stomach doesn't feel all bloated and gross. It's still entirely too large of course....but it feels better :)
 
I think the last couple dietary breakdowns are closer to where you want to be. When I was on my last major cut I was doing 6 days of hard dieting with 1 full cheat/reward day, it was a major depletion diet and every 7th day we would do a fat load. Sausages, pizza, burgers, whatever we wanted (although realistically after one cheat meal we were so full that we didn't eat too much for the rest of day). I really believe that cheat meals (or days) come in handy to keep your body guessing but reversely the diet needs to be rather strict (and at least mildly depleting) to get the full effect.

Maybe in a month or two when I feel totally in control of my numbers I will try out your depletion vs. cheat day theory. Right now I only cheat when it's a real special occasion (like when my girlfriend says we are eating this...you have no choice) :):whip:

11/18/08 - Day 44

Overview :I have some very good news and then I have some potentially very awful news.

Good - My Nutrition totals are the best they've been in a VERY long time today. I mean...spot on almost. I just barely missed Fiber. Everything else is perfect.

Bad - My nose is like a faucet and my head is killing me. I hate getting sick. I am heading to bed immediately after this post and I will try to sleep in a bit and hope I wake up okay enough to do my workout tomorrow morning.

Indifferent - I am almost done with my first bar of Java Lather soap and this would normally be a sad event....you know...if I didn't have another bar waiting for me to open :):):)

Tuesday - Hosptials and the Like!:
Nothing to report today except a lot of walking. Between two different hospitals and the city of Philadelphia...we did a good amount of walking today.
