VARICOCELE...can it effect testosterone?

So go for it. The alternative or watching your testi's shrink, next to no T, ED, peeing all night, mixed up hormones, mood swings, sperm levels that make me the envy of eunuchs and no one else...well...its not an option. Of course many say all the above signs arent Varicocele related. .

was your frequent urination constant, this is the one thing that is driving me crazy more then anything, and it seems to be getting worse as I cant go more then an hour without peeing wether it is day or night

I wish I knew the medical explanation for the varicocele and the frequent urination, wether the veins are pulling down on on my prostate or kidney or what, I also have a enlarged spleen which was noticed in a cat scan that I wonder if that has any relation

And has your frequent urination gone down since you had the surgery, also have you noticed an increase in libido at all?

Also how long did you have the surgery after you first notice your varicocele problems?

Varicoceles suck so bad, I still cant believe I got this crap after some freak dumb accident or possibly a dumb long masturbation session, or possibly the combination of the things

**** Varicoceles :(:(

And even though this is just a small group and everyone is different it is good to know that there is some small support group for people who are going through similar crap, I bet there are alot more people going through this **** and they just dont know where to look, I like many people probably found this page after typing in Varicocele and Testosterone, it is amazing most doctors think you are crazy when you tell them your Varicocele came on suddenly and your testosterone was lower as a result

Also does anyone know what happen to that guy Megazoid and that webpage he was working on, who knows maybe the fact he isnt around anymore is a good thing that since he had the surgery he is feeling better and is getting on with his life, these things arent the end of the world after all

Hey UpTempo and fellow sufferers...

Well I had my Varicocele Operation (microsurgery on bi lateral varicocele)on Sept 29 here in Ho Chi Minh City (my wife being Vietnamese and the fact Australian doctors refused to offer me anything except excuses or "it will be okay"..while Vietnamese Andrologists offered encouragement and hope was the reason for this choice).

I go by personal experience. As V got worse. My symptons got worse. So that = "x" factor. I want to see what life without V is like. So far...it feels better just not having non working veins trying to burst through the testicle walls. The pain is gone. Even sleeping on my side or back brought no relief from the pain prior to operation. So thats two +'s.

I await to see what follow.

Its been 6 days since I underwent Microsurgical ligation of bilateral varicocele and I thought of sharing my op and limited post op experience I have had till now.
The first time I experienced symptoms such as lack of libido; weak erection was in Jan 2007. I was going through a very stressful situation in my personal life then. I visited a doctor who specializes in sexual medicine who had me get the usual set of tests T,T3,T4,SA done and my sperm count was found to be very very low. He said I am Ok hormonally and attributed everything to my personal situation and advised me to get a scrotal scan done when I felt better. I knew something was amiss but nevertheless I gave myself 3 months time and then visited a psychiatrist who said its because of my situation.
After another 3 months I visited an urologist who had me get a scrotal scan done and told me I have bi lateral varicocele and advised surgery but he didnt even remotely make a connection between that and my problems.
I began to wonder "how is it that this affects one function of testicles and not another" ... many days and nights of internet search and the magic keystroke combination 'Varicocele +testosterone' led me to this thread, read everything you guys have shared (felt relieved to know that there is a medical explanation for the nightmare I was going thru) and dashed off to an Uro Andrologist who advised micro surgery and told me in uncertain terms that varicocele can cause ED. I have also visited two Endocrinologists with readings of my T Levels (in mid 300s) and they called the Uro and Uro Andrologists quacks and called me fool who is imagining things instead of enjoying life!!
Got the surgery done on the 26Th September, was able to walk to the restroom within hours. There surely was discomfort for the first 3 to 4 days but nothing unmanageable. In fact the doc had asked me to pop a pain killer if the pain was severe and I have managed without one. I will be seeing him in two days and he has told me he will get me started on medication to improve sperm count. Clomid??!!! I am quite curious myself.
In my case the veins didnt look distended at all!! So I am guessing they were not way out of shape to be detected just by looking. Just to put things in perspective I am 29, six footer weighing 170 pounds, not too active physically, a vegetarian.
I have noticed a clear improvement in my libido and quality of erection!!! Nothing drastic but surely an upward trend. I can’t remember the last time I felt the urge to masturbate before surgery and the sensation at the time of ejaculation was clearly subdued. Ever since the surgery I have experienced random erection a couple of times , early morning erection also, the climax and hardness have clearly improved. Now, I am sure I am not imagining things here for however fertile my imagination might be I find it hard to believe that I have sooooo much control on my mind to make all of this possible :)
I have interacted with shyguava before the surgery (as part of this mail chain and by means of personal messages). We all know he has been pretty vocal about doctors and their ill informed and bigoted opinions. I will save my self the trouble to repeating all that again ,I personally agree with him. If you know you have varicocele and are experiencing symptoms and are reading this mail chain it means you have done your home work. There is nothing new you are going to find out by spending time on the internet, just get it operated before it causes a hormonal havoc and ruins your peace of mind.

where did you get your surgery done? do you know how much it cost? Did you experience any other symptoms with your varicoceles like frequent urination? did your testicles shrink at all?

Also I think I read about other people who had increased libido after their surgery but it eventually died down, I dont say this to be a prick, I just know how much it sucks to get your hopes up then something goes wrong and it always leads to depression, for your sake and my sake and others, I hope your libidio stays the same and maybe your testosterone gets naturally restored, but just based on things I have been reading I am not sure that is the case, though I always look at the down side of life and have a hope for the best but expect the worst mentality as I think that is the best way to prevent or deal with depression

I got it done in India. Approximately $1200 USD (45000 INR). Insurance usually doesn't pay because they find it very convenient to believe that it causes infertility and fixing this will fix infertility and they dont pay for infertility treatment!!! In my case I am single so I made it clear that I didnt go there because my wife was having trouble conceiving , my doc said it is not a good idea to cite hormonal problems ... he just mentioned acute pain and guess what they paid !!!
Yeah sure, I understand that none of us here are likely to say anything mean , with my fingers crossed I just hope it stays this way.

Yes I am from India. Frequent urination? Never not before not after. Atrophied, I really don’t know .
I got Scrotal Scan done for the first time in Jan 2008 and it was ULTRASOUND SCAN.
The next time I got it done was in early Sep 2008, i.e 8 months later and this time it was DOPPLER SCAN. You can see the readings below:
Right Before : 4.2 2.2 2.7
Right After : 3.5 2.6 1.5
Left Before : 4.2 2.1 2.4
Left After : 3.8 2.0 2.6
The dimensions are clearly different, more so in case of Right. The way they calculate the volume is m1*m2*3*K and I think K is 0.52, since we are comparing two volumes and the proportionality constant is the same it shouldn’t matter what K is. If you go by these numbers my right testis has definitely shrunk in size. The premise for this argument is that numbers obtained from two different methods (Ultrasound Vs Doppler) are comparable. Whether or not they are I dunno , and even if they are to what extent ? !!! Hard to tell .

Are these numbers - in centimeters??

Oops !! What I have written can be a little misleading.
Before = Jan 2008
After = Early Sep 2008 (2 weeks before surgery)

Yep the numbers are in cms

Such a difference in 8 months...Did you have even big ones before (before Jan 2008)

Mine is almost same as yours
left - 3.9
right - 4.5
But I used to have bigger than these.
How come you dont feel difference. I can feel especially during sleep..Its so uncomfortable. But we have to live with it. We cant increase the size now.

Just had inginual varicocele surgery performed 1 week ago on the left side. Ive had a nice morning erection almost every morning so far, whether or not this is just placebo or a real improvement in testosterone I don't know. For all you guys who have had the surgery - did your testicle(s) get a bit tender or mildly swollen after the procedure? If so when does this go away?

Tender testicles is an understatement lol. I had my op on 29th Sept 08 and yes its still tender and mildly swollen. I think "UpTempo"is the one to answer this as he had his ops 30 days ago and I think he was saying still a little sore that far after ops. So I wont be optimistic in saying I am looking for any instant relief yet.

A urologist answered my question online about the testicle soreness. Here is what he said:

"Drew, this is a common sign after most inguinal procedures, especially with a varicocelectomy. The sensitivity and any associated swelling gradually disappear in about 6-8 weeks. The only way for atrophy to occur with a varicocelecy is if the testicular artery was inadvertently injured. This is quite an unusual complication. Good luck."

i see thanks for the information...when I was waiting for my varicoele surgery, most people know that my pain went to my right side...and created a pulling discomfort pain from the blood..well that pain still hasn't subsided...the pain hurts even more when i touch one of the dorsal veins on my penis that goes down to the rightt side...sucks...! i really hope this pain will go away !

Thanking Drew for that info. I normally worry a lot when everything isnt 100% pre or post op so hearing this makes me think less. I guess its the way our insides help protect that part that has been operated on. Similar to the way we have bruising and puffyness after an external blow to part of us. Okay....I shall calm down lol till my post op tests are done on 30th Oct. 08:goodpost:

i really like your encouragement shyguava..i too flew half way around the world just to see a better doctor where healthcare is actually better (IMO). I hope everything goes well with you from here on out. can you keep us updated shyguava on when your pain/discomfort fully goes away? i have been so desperate to ride a bike or run...but still havent been able to do that yet :(

Hey Up Tempo. I was amazed I could go on the back of my wifes scooter within 3 - 4 days of my operation. The roads in Ho Chi Minh City arent the smoothest but it was okay. You have to wear something for support under the shorts. Not boxer shorts. One road bump or sudden turn and it hurt. But by and large the pain is manageable and I can do plenty of the basics. The first day out of surgery and I couldnt get out of bed. The 2nd I couldnt put my shoes on to leave hospital (couldnt bend and tie the laces - damn stupid choice of shoe = hiking boots lol).

So day by day things are moving in a positive direction. I can walk and run a little already. But lifting the leg to get into a high wheel base car (some taxi here are like 4 wheel drives or people movers = not normal sedan size) is an effort (side saddle shuffle works)I shall keep you informed so you can compare results at similar stage.

Have you still got the puffy - fluid feeling in the nether regions? To me it feels sometimes like the left testicle is not in the exact position it used to be. Seems a bit towards the rear of the testicular sack. Normally when standing it drops to the middle better. Maybe I think too much too but I notice this. Trust its not tangled in some ligated veins.

nice to hear from you shyguava....as of right now...my testicles SEEM to be going back to its normal size...its been 5 weeks and a half...i walk with no problems now...and so far these last three days my sac doesnt hang as low...i hope it stays this way...but walkin after a long day you can definitely feel discomfort...One of my dorsal veins on the right side of my penis still hurts every once in awhile..its like a semi sharp pain....i don't know if the blood being stuck there before surgery had anything to do with it...

i tried riding my bike today..even though i didnt sit on the seat...wasnt a good idea..my surgery wound in the lower abs started to ache/hurt a little bit...more waiting time is needed i guess...

Ah yes...the lower ab cuts surprised me too. I had anticipated them being like "keyhole" size but when the bandages came off I was worried the kidneys had been removed for the black market (:aargh:).

I must admit that I find walking seems to increase the healing process compared to sedentary activies. I think the blood flow is a factor so dont give up going for a walk even you cant cycle comfortably.

Hey shyguava and uptempo

Its exactly 11 since I underwent surgery. Within 3 hours of surgery I was able to walk to the restroom and on the second day I climbed a flight of stairs up and down a bunch of times , started driving on the 7Th day. Now I cant help but wonder if my surgeon is that good or if he has done anything at all !!! Also, he had prescribed a painkiller and it was to be taken if i experienced excessive pain. Apart from the initial tenderness and discomfort that are bound to be there I didnt experience any pain of unmanageable proportion, so I managed without a pain killer.
He has put me on a tablet Trental (Pentoxifylline) , it is a vasco dialator used to ensure blood flows well into even the tiniest of veins/arteries. It is used in general for vascular problems in the limbs and also to treat infertility (My SA results werent that good). I dont think this helps the other side (libido) side of the story in any way.

do you guys who have or had varicocele veins had it on the testis itself or is it on the top of the testis like in this diagram, cuz mine seems to be all over the testis itself and I never see or hear about anyone like that

so your libidio didnt improve after the surgery? did you get your testosterone levels checked before the surgery to see if they were effected?

Somteimes it will be at the bottom of testicle, and sometimes at the top, this happens especially when testicle has become small.

my veins were wrapped around my left testicles you can see it on the sides...but most of them were on the top...after the surgery...all the veins were gone...my doctor literally ripped out a bunch of long veins inside and put it in a jar and asked me if i wanted to keep it...but right now..it seems like new veins are growing? not even sure...semi-puffed up...thats for sure..

anyone have any updates on how they were doing, I finally saw a Varicocele specialist today, it sucks when I probably know more about it then him

I was more or less concerned about my testosterone but he of course didnt believe me when I told him my testosterone was MUCH higher before I discovered the varicocele, he pretty much said "well there is no way of knowing that without a blood test"

Still unsure if I am going to have the surgery or not, he kind of scared me out if it when he hinted that it might not improve pain and he wasnt sure about testosterone being restored

Does anyone recommend any Varicocele specialist doctors in the USA? He just didnt seem confident in it and I hate it when Doctors dont really listen to their patient or dont allow them to talk or really ask questions, I just hate it when I know more about something then a doctor and I have to make myself appear to be an idiot just not to hurt a doctors ego, this has happened on more then 1 occasion including some ******* Veterinarian who manipulated me into have a amputation on my dog when it probably wasnt neccessary, and in many ways led me to the mess I am in today

YOur testosterone cannot be restored after surgery. You need to thnk about pain. You still suffering from pain. I dont have any pain or libido, erection problems. Is thats the indicators of good testosterone, then I dont have those (I have bilateral varicoceles).I am not going for surgery.

You dont make much sense.

You lost me somewhere in there? If you so sure that T can not be fixed by surgery on varicocele then what is your evidence. If the testicles are shrinking (atrophy) then its unlikely to be helpful as the testes are pretty important when it comes to producing T. A testicle half its normal size is a pretty big concern. Varicoceles untreated arent healthy and its widely acknowledged that left untreated there is a fair chance of permanent damage to the testes over time (if one camp debates this then I dont care....I go with the idea that the medical fraternity can debate themselves into a blackhole but I will always go with the side that says "fix it before its too late"). Best K1 fixes it. He can worry about the T side of things afterward. I had my op on 29th Sept. I shall see how things improve over next 2 - 3 months and worry about T after that.

I have read things that your testosterone can be restored or at least maybe go up a little, also I have read there is no change and in some cases it might go down

And my pain can be contained while wearing briefs or not sleeping on my stomach

Have you ever had any sexual side effects before or after you learned of your varicoceles

do you feel better at all since your surgery

And are you saying once the testicles shrink there is no turning back, because my testicles are DEFINETLY getting smaller, my varicocele is on my left testicle and my right testicle is shrinking for some reason, I heard because the testicles are considered "twins" when one testicle gets smaller the other one trys to match its twin

What a ****ing nightmare this is, the worst is no one cares and doctors and urologists treat this like it is no big deal

Also does anyone know the cost of a Varicolectemy? I have read some things on the net which say it costs like $40,000 which sounds insane, I have also read other things that say it costs $4,000 which is more reasonable but still alot for a 1 hour procedure

I feel pretty good. All the post op pain disappeared within 11 days of surgery and the swelling disappeared same time. I have been told to let things go for 2 - 3 months and for best results with making a baby with wife to wait 9 - 12 for seminal improvements to peak. I had so many two headed semens and semen not doing anything that it made a mockery of doctors telling me "oh but you have good volume". What bs. Its like telling someone with thousands of worthless shares on the stockmarket they have a lot of investments. Big deal they will say.

Testicle shrinkage is reversible from the reports I have read and from the discussions I have had with my Andrologist who says I am a 10CC when I should be 20CC and he says give it time and I should revert back to what I was or closer to it than what I am now. I think atrophy is most irreversible when you are into severe steroid abuse for prolonged time frames. Read that last night. In respect of Varicocele...when the varicocele is very large (a real bag of worms) then you dont want to leave that year in year out as its not doing you any good. So fix it. That way you give the testes chance to recover when the blood supply is normalised.

My operation cost about $700US. On average I have seen $1200US as an average. Dont know how greedy some specialists can get in the US but in Asia and Australia I found $700 - $1200Us an average/.

Its not unusual for a healthy testicle to suffer if its twin is suffering. I read that due to the majority of veins being on the left side, that the left teste is most vulnerable but just because the majority of varicoceles are on the left doesnt mean the right teste wont suffer. Its different to guys who have a teste removed. The healthy one seems to go on and do its job. Its when an unhealthy organ is working next to its healthy twin things seem to go awry. Like eyes. Same situation often occurs till the bad eye is removed.

But hey - go ahead and get the operation. There isnt much to lose. Its pretty safe and as I said before...its an "x factor" you can do without. Maybe it wont fix everything else you feel is wrong. But while it is there and working in the back of your mind its not healthy for you. Thats why I took it out. 11 veins ligated. They were 4mm across. Normal is 1 mm. When I look at the back of my hand on a hot day and see how big a 4mm vein is...i sometimes wonder how 11 of them fit down in the testicular region.

If you have to pretend and scream in pain at the slightest touch...then you will get a doctor who will operate believe me.
If you have a Vietnamese friend who can translate for you and go with you to Vietnam then you might want the contact details of my Andrologist. But its best to have someone who knows the language and their way around here. I have my wife and I admit the Vietnamese Hospitals can be a little scary at first if you are used to the almost bleach clean American ones or Aussie ones.
But my wife was great. She was sick as can be and stayed with me all during my stay to see I was looked after and translated for me (only my Andro spoke English fluently). Uptempo might be able to put you onto his Indian doctor as they speak English pretty much as a norm in India = specially the educated ones. So you can be better off on your own there.

I am also researching nitric oxide and l-arginine supplements and Vitamin B6 which helps with sex hormone production too to see what benefits I can get from those (I dont believe in patch up jobs like Viagra as most doctors are on some kickback which is why they send us off with a prescription rather than a solution), I prefer healthy solutions.

Main thing is...dont despair. See yourself as the pilot in your own life. Yes doctors are procrastinating pains in the ass who dont want to listen most of the time. But they fear law suits and prefer easy ways to make money. Thats what we battle against.
You look out for number 1 and take the action you need to take.

Go for it. I did. Was I a little scared. Heck yeah. But now I feel proud of myself. I would do it again too. And I will solve all my problems even I have to do it myself without the Australian specialists lifting a finger. My going to Vietnam proves it.

So fix it. That way you give the testes chance to recover when the blood supply is normalised.

did you have problems with your testosterone that you know of and did you feel better sexually after the surgery

also did your varicocele come on suddenly for any reason

and I am the same way as far as wanting things done naturally, it insults me when I go to a doctor and their cure for everything is to fix it with medicine, most doctors nowadays just want to be glorified drug dealers, the medical industry in the usa is more or less a ****ing racket

Hey K1212,

Its been almost exactly 2 months after my surgery...recently all the pain is almost non existent...and I can run and I started biking a lot again, even though I don't sit down on the bike, besides sitting on my butt cheek (don't want any pressure on the balls)... but yeah my testicles are definitely bigger (at least my sac looks like it is)...and I feel much more sexually active, the urge to masturbate seems higher for me...maybe I am still young, I don't know? But if there is pain, I seriously would recommend you to go for surgery, I am sorry to hear that all the urologist you have been going to are of no help. I went through that stage back in August. My parents were willing to fly me to Hong Kong and now everything is fine. It is funny to see all the chickensh*t urologists that Ive seen in the U.S giving excuses about no need for surgery when the obvious pain is there. "Oh, I'll put you on some painkiller Ibuprofen 600mg and you should be fine for a month!" -Are you kidding me? When I went to Hong Kong, 3 of the urologists I saw all recommended surgery cause of my grade III and pain.

Go for the surgery man, I really think its worth it, my testicles seem like they really have gotten bigger...but I will really have to wait one more month or two to see if things are actually "normal" as I have not done any blood tests to see my test levels or sperm count. (sometimes I don't want to see the results just because...) But yeah, not all hope is lost, I hope you can find the right doctor, even though I know one visit to the urologist is NOT cheap, considering the state of the economy.

Famous eurologist at our place told me even after the surgery, I wont get my testicle size and testosterone back. He also told me even if the size decreases in future, it wont happen that fast. I am 32 years old.
If you are young early 20s or teens (i am not sure), you may get the size back.

what do you mean by 20 CC. 20 cubic centimetre??How much lenght * width * height

what do you mean by 20 CC. 20 cubic centimetre??How much lenght * width * height

Basically I expect them to be twice the size they are now. He said mine are 10CC and should improve to 20CC in future. Whether they do or not...main thing is they wont be disappearing off the map.
I have researched material from a variety of learned sources thats offers similar advice. So I will go with that. What is a CC? I take it to be cubic centimetres so that 20Cc would be about 3 x 2 x 1.5 (I was never into this branch of maths so if it sounds like a submarine rather than a testicle just ignore my figures. Twice as big as before is all I focus on anyway as the promise made. So grow away guys....

Urologists eh! Mmm. Every Aussie Urologist I saw knew crap about male function and size. They bumped me over to see Endocrinologists who knew crap about hormones and male function (kid you not...and I got a lot poorer for the experience). Most of my research is from the net and the Andro's and Urologists I saw in Vietnam. Those sources are the ones I rely on. If I see 100 articles (some by US Endo's and Urologists and others by Asian and Euro counterparts) and they say testicular size can improve once a ravenous varicocele is removed then thats good enough for me.

Good to hear UpTempo. At least you had parents that cared and listened. In the past I had one that kept telling me it was all in the mind. He should have become a Urologist with that attitude.
But I sense some changes and improvements after 1 month. Just
waiting to see how things go at 3 months. Main thing is I dont have to worry that varicocele is eroding me any further. You wont get any improvement leaving it in place. So we did what was right. So how come you ended up in India instead of Hong Kong?

Mu varicocele developed slowly over time. I have issues with T (I am 321 on the T scale that starts at 250 - 1200 or thereabouts) pre op. I havent had a test since then but will when I return to Australia. 321 wasnt doing it for me. The Endo was giving me all sorts of garbage (in Australia) before I left that I need my wife to be present before he can prescribe some medication that ups the T without wrecking the semen production. Personally my wife is being sponsored to Australia still but I told him that I dont think an adult needs his wife with him for a doctor to fix a problem. This isnt the schoolyard where we need mum to hold our hand (or anything else). So he will probably get no more visits from me and I will request another Endo from my Urologist. I have a policy. One visit. You make an impression or you are gone. Thats strictly how I act. He made jokes and fun and had a good time while seemingly knowing little about hormone levels. He was contradicting himself (based on my own research). Even told me that many men have happy sexual relationships on my level of T. I told him that I am a real man. Not Pee Wee Herman. I would have had T of 800 at one stage. I could build muscle and make love 3 times a day, was alert, motivated and could put down any male trying to intimidate me. So I know the difference between good T and crap T.

Things are slowly improving since my operation. I feel better. Some things will still need tweeking and assistance but thats for when I return to Australia. My wife is with me here and thats always clouding things as I feel a lot better within myself when she is around. When I return to Australia awaiting her sponsorship to be finalised I wont have her for a while and I get kinda down. But in that time I will be getting some things going and tests done. Just not with Mr Useless the Comic Endo.

Where did you get India from? lol ...I am from California, but I was born in Hong Kong, and my dad's older brother also ironically had varicocele surgery so he knew some good doctors...but I am amazed about Hong Kong's healthcare compared to here..you can basically see a urologist right away without having to wait like 2 months like they do here in CA..with cheap insurance..and for the same price...how are you shyguava? everything looking good so far? do you notice an increase in size of your testicles or just the sac in general?

Also K1212 in case you were wondering, my varicoele started getting big all of a sudden when I had stress and pressure put on it from ziplining (canopying)...I never even knew I had a varicocele before that...before that accident my balls looked smaller compared to now...but yeah..I don't exactly know if its completely normal right now..but as long as the pain is gone for now...I am satisfied..hopefully it stays that way.

Yeah its the same in Vietnam Uptempo. The last trip that helped set up the operation on this trip my wife took me to see a doctor in the Foreigners Hospital in HCM. They admitted it wasnt their specialty to treat male problems such as varicocele and T and libido etc so I saw a Urologist same day. He sent me to see the Andrologist (same day). Who sent me for tests the next morning and asked me to see him (with the test results) later that evening. All tests (4 of them) were done and given to me next morning.

In Australia I wait 2 months to see a urologist. He books me to see an Endo and thats another month or two. By the time they fluff around with the "oh but you are within normal T levels - though I wouldnt want them myself haha.... or your varicocele is grade 3 but hey...be thankfull its not grade 4 or 5 hahahah...sorry joke...haha" So our great western medical system is basically in the trough as far as efficiency is concerned. Oh and in Vietnam...they dont make jokes or laugh at you. They listen and some nights I even had a question I overlooked when attending a session. Guess what....10.00pm I send an email asking a question and 30mins later the Andrologist replied. My gosh. Great stuff.

I thought you had an operation in India. I know you from California. But you say your op was done in Hong Kong. Good for you either way.

The sac part has gone down in size but the testicles definately seem to be improving in size slowly. Its easy to tighten the testicular sac around them and notice the change. 1- 2 month ago preop the left was very small and soft (almost needed a special ops team to go in and locate it). The left testicle was
definately soft before. A not too firm press on it gave the feeling you get pressing a dry sponge thats been in the sun too long. I can feel a few changes coming over me. Dont pee 12 times a night. Feel much more relaxed and calm as a result of good nights sleep - get up at 6.00am and 7.00am as opposed to 9.30pm (lucky I work in a place that lets you log on by 11.00am). Feel a bit more masculine so I trust that is the hormone situation correcting itself slowly. I might need some other sources of assistance later but will sit on the situation (lol no choice on that) for 3 months and observe the changes.

Might try Tribestan while waiting. Seems to have some good qualities touted as far as increasing sperm quality and libido etc. No harm in trying.

What is your muscle strength and body weight before and after surgery? Did it improve?
Did you lose weight/muscle after you got varicocele?

I lost weight when I was in pain from the varicocele..maybe like 5 6 pounds...I was just constantly tired....but Im back into my 150 pound range now...I haven't worked out intensively since June, so it makes sense I am not as strong as before, and I dont plan to work out much yet until maybe 2 more months, I dont wanna burst a vein or anything...but I have been biking and I am slowly gaining my speed and power back...I think my libido increased after surgery, but that can also be change in hormones at my age, not too sure...I hope that helped

And Shyguava, its finally nice to see some successful stories here such as yours, I hope things get even better over time, and Ihope to all those who suffer from varicocele will one day find a solution. It was always sort of melancholic coming onto this forum finding help back when I was still in pain :(

I was about 88kg when first diagnosed and 79kg preop. I am 80kg now but I think that is not a bad weight per height ratio (I am about 181cm. Yes there is a shortage of good news stories around. I have been reviewing many health topics to do with male libido and stuff to test out what nice supplements are on the market but you have to wade through some real horror stories of personal suffering to find the product. Kinda depressing. A bit like joining the Congolese Park Ranger service to help preserve the Gorilla only to find someones shot them all in your region. (sorry...too much watching Discovery Channel and Nat Geo). Must try Tribestan though as that looks promising.

You know Darkblue1 is sceptical about testicles regaining size after varicocele op but when you have had the op and physically see the difference several weeks later. Its no myth. My left is dramatically improved. And the right is proportionately larger than what it was several weeks ago too. No bull. I cant help but noticing this as the reason for checking wasnt gratuitous but originally motivated by the fear the doctor might accidentally ligate off the damn artery and we all know what that does for testicular size. So I checked just in case each day during shower and nope...it wasnt shrinking away due to having its blood supply cut off. But yes...its firming up and is definately improving in size. Did you notice this too Uptempo? Great isnt it!

Also notice the mood changes I am experiencing. I am far happier and more positive too. Well with that damn pain gone who wouldnt be. But its not me, doing it. We can fake happiness only for so long. Its something else thats changed. And as it wasnt there pre op - well I guess its to do with hormone levels as affected previously by a pretty crappy set of testicles - having chance to resume normal business as usual.

Arent you worried too much biking can lead to sterility. Do a Google search and you will see that there is a link to the two. Personally I used to ride a bike that was a chopper design as a kid. We called them Dragsters in Australia. A big fat back tire and a smaller front one, with a chopper style seat in the Easy Rider style. Damn cool. You dont see them anymore. These days kids just want BMX,, Mountain bikes or Racing style with the razor thin tyres. But the seat of those old Dragsters meant your little guys werent compressed and at risk of damage if you bumped off the kerb. Also they stayed cooler as you were seated back in the saddle with the breeze blowing up your shorts (lol...sorry too much info their but in a climate with 40C temps you went out in T shirt and shorts I can tell you) and not pressing down on the saddle as these modern bikes do. Damn hard seats too now-a-days. Almost weapons if you get one off the bike.

How old are you shyuguava? I am 33 ? As my wife is pregnant now, I cannot go for surgery, in case if i want to get it done outside US. So i am waiting...

Damn cool. You dont see them anymore. well the thing is I stand up most of the time when I ride now, so pressure is not applied to my balls at all...I used to sit down and ride fast, but I try to avoid that now...instead I sit on my buttcheek if im just crusing down hill...I don't know...can it still affect my fertility if I am just riding without sitting? If so, I might just quit then...lol

No - it doesnt affect you in that way. I think mostly its the long distance cyclers. Like the guys training for road races who go cycling for hours per day and 100km to get fit for an event. I think I would have cycled a lot as a kid as most of us do but we dont find many of us suffering as a result.

Pretty old. I am 39. I have a new wife 14 years younger than me (hence good chance of a kid or two from the relationship) so it was important to fix things at my end as I wasnt going to listen to the imbeciles that call themselves doctors at my end and use IVF or viagra just so they can get away with doing their work. A young woman going to IVF for something fixable in the man is ridiculous.
I will always do what has to be done, and if it means doing it overseas then so be it.
