whey protein??

I like a carbs/protein drink before and during, and a whey isolate at the end, then a complex carbs + whole food protein meal.

Here is what I did/had yesterday.

At beginning of workout, 1 scoop / 120 cals 75% waxy maize starch 15% peptopro 10% BCAAs

Another 30 min later

30 min later, toward end of workout, 25 grams of whey isolate ion-exchange

30 min later, 2 sweet potatoes
30 min later, pork roast (~350 cal)
30 min later, more pork roast
30 min later, some ramen noodles and a carby turkey sandwich

Not perfect, but I was on a weird schedule.

That IS a weird schedule! How long is your workout?

Workouts lately have been roughly 80-110 minutes.

The reason that was such a weird eating schedule was because I overslept and still wanted to go to bed early and had to do a lot of work, hence I was eating more calories in less time and couldn't eat that much at once...

In other words I got up at 3-4pm, wanted to go to bed by midnight...

listen no need to get complicated slam your shake down the last 5 minutes of working out plain and simple. make sure to add your carbs to your whey 3:1 ratio carbs : protein

if taking before keep it to protein as your body doesnt need the carbs RIGHT before your workout, but follow my guidelines for the post workout shake.

Newer research is showing carbs ARE important pre-workout...your workout performance will be tons better if you consume some carbs before and during, not just after. The whole idea of a "post workout shake" is being replaced with a "workout shake."

I just get all my liquid carbs and protein in before/during...follow up with more protein for good measure...then a good solid food meal of carbs and protein. What's complicated about that?

cards right before will kill your workout

Not my experience...nor this guy's:

Justin Harris:
What "I" do.
PREWORKOUT:50g Waxy maize, 1 scoop Anatrop, 1 scoop whey isolate
DURING WORKOUT: 35g Waxy maize, 1 teaspoon Anatrop
POST WORKOUT: 110-130g Waxy Maize, 1 scoop Anatrop, 1 scoop whey isolate, 1 scoop egg white protein

It is always evolving and changing though

Something tells me that guy's workouts aren't being "killed"...maybe my eyesight is screwed up, but I think he's making Jim Wendler look small.

should i take my whey protein after or before my workout??
Keep it simple. Take a whey shake both before and after your workout. You need the whey before because as you're working out you're damaging your muscles and putting your body into a catabolic state. You need the protein in there while you're working out. You also need the protein post workout. The best timing would be to take it as soon as you get home from the gym and then if you can an hour or 2 after your protein shake have more protein in the form of regular food i.e. meat, eggs, or milk. If you're on a budget and cant afford to take the protein before and after the workout it's more important that you get it after the workout than before. Also you must include carbs. Carbs are very important before and after your workout. You want about 3 times the carbs than protein for post workout. If you don't use these windows of oppurtunity pre and post workout you'll really cripple your gains. There is too much information to put into this post just go on the internet and search for "pre and post workout nutrition" that should yield a plethora of information that you should really read. Good luck to you man I hope this helped you out!

LOL, what? I didn't even get the idea from him, I just cited him.

We can just agree to disagree. I was posting this for the benefit of anyone reading, not to get into an internet fight. Just chill, we can both have our opinions based on our individual experiences. Maybe carbs kill your workout if you eat them early, but not mine, and not other people I've spoken with. I'm sure you're not trying to be dishonest, and neither am I.
