High Calcium Levels - Concerned

I just got back my Trace Elements test results via fax, that was done in May, and it says my Calcium levels are high.


Calcium = 0.51 (Range 0.11 - 0.48 )


Im 24 years old, have adrenal fatigue and have been on Cortef since June as prescibed by my Doc. He is a Licenced Doctor aswell as a licenced Natural Path.


Im concerned because ive read that high Calcium is mostly caused by a parathyroid tumor, from this website below, and to a lesser extent from some form of cancer.

For what its worth i also tested low for Zinc, low for hydroxy vitamin D, high for Arsenic, and high normal for Mercury. I will be trying to get far infared sauna therapy and just started using Zeolites, Chlorella, and fresh wheat grass shots to help get rid of the heavy metals, along with only eating organic food.



But im mainly concerned about the Calcium. I have an appointment with my Doctor in a few weeks but im anxious to know about this in the meantime.



Does anybody have any personal experience or knowledge in the subject?

What kind of test... urine? hair? Keep in mind hair is not 100% accurate... prone to contamination.

How is your magnesium? Magnesium keeps calcium in check, and most people are deficient. My calcium was high (at first I thought parathyroid also) but a couple months on magnesium and its balancing out.

For vitamin D, take some fish oil and get some daily sun if you can!!

I am taking a product called Metal Magnet to remove some excess mercury. It works for all heavy metals, without the dangerous sides from harsh chelation products.

Hey LeanGuy, sorry i forgot to mention it was a blood test.

Magnesium = 1.83 (Range 1.57 - 2.73)

So i guess im in the normal range but not optimal.

I have gotton a lot of Sun since the test, but that parathyroid website says the low Vitamin D is from the parathyroid tumour.



You say you tested negative for parathyroid tumour, what tests did you do? Did you actually do an MRI or sestamibi scan?



And thanks for the info on that heavy metal remover, i will check it out!

Serum PTH (parathyroid hormone) and Ionized Calcium

Since they came back normal, they didn't order an MRI. My serum calcium was barely over the limit (like yours)... the magnesium took it back down to the lower limit. So I wouldn't get too worried until your doctor seems concerned :)

BTW, the standard serum test for magnesium isn't very accurate... you could still be deficient. A better test is RBC Magnesium or SpectraCell.

So taking magnesium brought your calcium down to low normal? How much did you take?

It definately requires follow-up testing with your doc. But its easy to get freaked out about things by seaching the net... I've been there.

I'm taking 300mg magnesium taurate (divided dose). Its easier on the stomach, but if I take too much.... :toilet:

So im assuming you avoid fish, even wild pacific salmon since you are trying to get rid of mercury and heavy metals?


I read wild pacific salmon is very low in Mercury but i still dont trust it.

I still eat it, just avoid certain types... here is a list I found:

Cool, thanks for that info!

I'll definetly get that PTH test done but mabye a full MRI if possible just to be safe.

Yeah, whatever your doctor recommends... I am no expert, I'm just telling what happened to me. Let me know how it turns out, bro.

I bet you all barking up the wrong tree !!

Found reference that low manganse is associated with high serum calcium due to decrease bone turn over
Examine alklaline phosphotase and also total cholesterol levels. if total cholesterol is lower then 160 then bank on it being low....when you add HC to the mix it alters manganese metabolism

Also look at the amount of calcium, zinc, magnesium,and iron you bring in as welll as these all lower it !!
I am seeing a current trend in people taking >40 mgs of zinc a day and lower alkalline phosphotases on serums as well as high t3 to t4 ratio common with copper or mangeses defieincy

Thats funny you say that, because i DO have low manganse levels, along with low Zinc levels and low Ferritin levels.


I just started taking ionized Zinc, and ive been taking 200mg of Elemental Iron for a couple months now.


So are you saying the low manganse is causing the high calcium, or the high calcium causing the low manganse?

Your blood pH may also be high from a lack of alkalinic foods. Hypercalcemia is one of the symptoms of metabolic acidosis.

Hey Matix, my total cholesterol levels are all in normal range.


I had some blood work done in April which included ALK. PHOS.


ALK. PHOS. = 51 ( 43 - 122 )


Dont know what that result means.

I also had RBC Folic Acid, ALT, GAMMA GT, URIC Acid, and B12tested, all which came back normal.

My point made !!

If you are low in manganese this can cause iron defiency because it makes vitamin C completely useless in the body causing a functional defeiincy (lean guy SOUND FAMILAR!!)
alkaline phosphotase (anything less then 70 is a possible red flag) is a zinc, magnesium, manganese driven enyzme which is a bone building enyzme (DUH) High calcium usally means that it is being pulled from the bone to be brought into blood stream to neutralize acidicity in the body causes metabolic alklalosis in the bloody to neutralize the acid in the body. If you are low on mangenase, iron, zinc, your thyroid is really taking a beating. Is taking iron the logical answer IMO NO. Becauase with out vitamin C iron is not probably absorbed by the body. I have known people to take mess load of iron and ferritin never move, Once they adde vitamin C VIOLA. All low mineral levels usualy means sodium defieincy or low NA/K ration because proper ratio is needed to make calcium soluable in the body. With high calcium you will have alot of muscle twitches and possible constipation symptoms simlar to tetany. You may want to increase bicarbonate with (alkalizing salts) to lower the acidity in the body. Too much calcium binds with iron, mangense, zinc. ARe youm taking protein powders and how much of them are you taking? Low stomach acid may also be in play here so super digestive enzyme by now may be used to over come this. Also estrogen imbalances HIGH AND LOW can impact all these minerals as well. Estrogen defieciny induces anemia indirectly by interfering with vitamin C metabolism, copper, manganese. Birth control inceases copper and manganese levels. With out copper iron can not be ulitized properlty. To much estrogen causes low ferritin excessive copper.

Some people are calling me the orthomolecular guru..

Wow lol, thanks a LOT for that info i really appreciate it.

Ive been taking some of the best whole food Vitamin C lately, which includes Camu Camu berry, which is fully absorbable in your body.


I read that the low Ferritin is also caused by the low body temp caused by hypothyroidism, causing iron not being able to be absorbed into the body. Ive also taken the regular vitamin C before and it didnt help me or my Ferritin levels. I beleive once i get the thyroid functioning properly, and the adrenals, i should be able to absorb the iron properly. Im actually going to get it tested again in a week or two. Im also taking ionized Zinc now first thing in the monring, and im going to take some Manganese.


I dont use protein powders, and i stay away from all crap and inorganic food from now on.


I want to mention that i was tested to have HIGH levels of Arsenic in my blood, and borderline high Mercury, so ive been using some liquid Zeolites, Chlorella, and fresh wheat grass juiced to get rid of the heavy metals. I have the best water filter system now, and got a shower filter aswell. No more exposure to chemicals for me. Im also looking into Far Infared Sauna's for heavy metal detox.


Im definetly going to be using some really good enzymes and Beta HLC, and HLC activater for the potention stomach acid problem.


My Estradiol dropped into normal range since being on Cortef, but was still a bit high for my preference and i was told that when my Estradiol lowers into a good range that means im on enough Cortef. I dont beleive though i need more than 32.5mg, im kind of scared to take more than that.



I beleive my high Reverse T3 is causing me a lot of my problems blocking my own T3 from working making me basically secondary hypothyroid.



Can you take a look at my iodine thread? I posted some questions for you and labs if you dont mind.
