College Football 2008 season

There's my boy!!

What's up IW?!?! :D
You know these threads are crack to a football junkie like me :D I've been doing good bro, just busier with the lady and work but I still come back for my AM dose when needed.

Your squad should be able to handle Miami because they don't have the passing game to win. All the Gators have to do is stop the U from running the ball because they don't have to passing game to win at The Swamp. Gators win 31-13.

I'm still wondering if there will another week two upset coming from East Carolina. They have West Virginia this week and I'm wondering if a good ECU squad was just opportunistic against an overrated squad (Va Tech) from an overrated ACC. I know WVU doesn't play in an elite conference but they have an explosive backfield and that should always keep a team competitive no matter what.

I agree with the nate longshore over view...i felt he could play amazing at times but i felt he choked quite a bit wen the situation mattered...but i look forward to our running game this year...javhid best is my wall paper atm

As for ECU i stated i thought they would upset tech last week and i put them on my upset watch this week bc while i am not positive they can pull the upset i believe people shouldn't count em out of the game just due to their rank compared to WVU

T1 i got a friend who is down in fl right now and he said ppl are going crazy getting ready for the game...sounds fun :)

My teams...

Alabama (2-0):
Defense=consistent
Offense=yeah... not so much

Cal (2-0):
Best=beast

Roll Tide! Go Bears!

Best balled out yesterday! I was proud of all the points cal put up. Also was happy that juice balled out(minus his two picks..)

for goodness sakes if Notre Dame could make it anymore painful, it would be like friggin route canal watching them beat SD St? What the hell?

The Florida/Miami game was a good time. The Swamp was louddddddddddddddd as usual. A few things I noted :

- Our offensive line played horrible. I mean reeeeeally bad. I give some credit to Miami's D for our horrid line play, UM's linebackers were flying all over the place.

- Sean Spence is a beast.

- Robert Marve will be a solid QB in time.

- Dan Mullen's playcalling was suspect. There weren't enough outside runs called, too few option plays called, and Harvin didn't get the ball enough.

- Our defense played GREAT. Our corners have made incredible strides since last year. Our DE's were beasts. Dunlap and Cunningham had their way with Miami's O line.

- We adjusted in the second half, Miami didn't. Our drives of 86 yards and 95 yards were both things of beauty.

Overall it was a fun game. If Miami gets that offense together they could easily take the ACC.

Without a doubt a great game. I agree that our offensive line looked lethargic at best, but as you said credit also has to be given to the miami defense. They played well.

I'm very impressed thusfar at how our defense has filled in the gaps this year. They really looked aggressive and energetic up front and in the secondary. That was the cog that hindered our title hopes last year. I really believe that with our D playing as well as they are we have a serious shot at title contention.

I didn't think florida's play calling in the first half was very good at all. While tebow was frequently in the hurried state, they didn't adjust in the play calling like i would have liked to see. I agree that the speed wasn't utilized with peripheral routes/screens.

I did enjoy watching college gameday as well. There was a sign in the backround that said "Miami Thugs!" The "U" was obviously placed strategically in there. :p

He's putting up some Heisman numbers ! 200 yards on 14 carries and they practically didn't use him the second half since it was 42-3 at halftime. Shane Vereen is not getting much attention but that man is almost as explosive as Jahvid Best.

If our passing games catches up to the running game then we'll easily be a top 15 or even top 10 team at this rate

2 weeks away from the big game OSU and USC........ the battle in the Cali........ I might have scored some tickets!!!!!! Airfarefrom Ohio thou will suuuuck! Go Bucks!
buckeys almost choked to ohio..who??..i cant wait till penn st. rolls into columbus.:trout:

All I've got to add to this one is...Knowshon Moreno for the heisman. Wasn't really impressed with the UF/Miami game. Don't know if UF played that bad or Miami played that good. I really expected UF to walk all over Miami. Ohio State didn't look all that great either. I expect USC to really put it to OSU. It was nice seeing West Virginia lose that game, although I'm not sure if East Carolina will be able to hold onto that high ranking they got. Alabama didn't look quite as strong in their win as they did against Clemson.

Georgia didn't look so hot in their game for the majority of it either though, J. They came out in the end with a good win, but they gave your boys a game for quite a while.

I give miami credit, their defense was impressive. They certainly put the pressure on for a lot of the game. UF didn't make the adjustments on offense that they should have though. Not to mention the offensive line may have helped miami look better than they really were. I still think a 26-3 win is pretty significant.

Well, well, well my young Trauma. What happened to Tebow doing what he wanted?

Confounded by a defense loaded with freshman and sophs - eh?

Gator fans can and should gloat. Breaking our streak dating back to when I was 5 years old (and Bolt probably wasn't even born) - 1985.

You guys looked much improved on defense, but I saw some holes with your O that not many teams proved last year.
It's not like we have a super experienced D...
Both D-ends were frosh and a frosh was the 3rd D-tackle. Spence (true frosh) will be starting by the 4th game at MLB - once our coaches switch Glenn Cook over. Same for frosh DB Brandon Harris.

We were down 9 to 3 with 12 mins. left against a national title contender on the road with a team with half of the 2 deep being freshman and sophomores.
And we shot ourselves in the foot with the retarded QB rotation of Marve and Jacory Harris. Arrrg! That pissed me off.
Plus seemed like we didn't open the play book - I think Pat Nix was coaching scared. Marve didn't appear rattled in the least.

We are the future. Make no mistake. When Tebow and Harvin leave, we'll have Marve, Harris, Sean Spence, Brandon Harris, Marcus Forston, Ramon Buchanon, Arthur Brown, Bryce Brown, etc.

Desmond Howard called it right - 2010 BCS championship game.

BTW - classy classy late field goal, Oscar Meyer. I thought we left that Gator Flop horsesh*t in the 70's. Guess not.

Congrats on the win. I heard most of the Gator fans were fairly well behaved.

Excuse any caustic response. Gustav left me without power for days and no internet for well over a week. Just got it back a few hours ago.

I need the forums more than I realized. LOL

Young? Damn J i'm older than you!

I'll say this much, your boys were as close to being shut out to begin with. Miami's only salvage was a 50yd field goal.

As i already said, the gator O line looked bad. While i give credit to miami, the gator O line's lethargic play amplified the effects.

Miami's apparent running game was shut down on all levels. Florida was in their face on defense all the same.

When the gator offense adjusted they moved the ball well in the second half. I wouldn't be so bold to say that miami is the "future". Come on now J, these gators have been in serious contention every year for some time now.

I don't agree. The UF program is at a high end on all levels.

UM may improve, but they're not going to be overshadowing UF anytime soon, sorry man, but it's true.

The miami thugs i heard had a long drive home.......;)

You know i love ya j, lol! :D

i wasn't alive in 1985 that was so far in the past :p

i am real mad i never got tickets for the cal maryland game this week i really wanted to go with my friends who lives in md

Runs on top aren't forever. Look at us in '00/'01/'02. 2nd/1st/2nd (hell 3rd in '03).

I'm looking at the recruiting trend between Meyer and Shannon. Last year's class was the start of what I think is a trend. You guys aren't coming to south FLA and getting the Deonte Thompson's or Major Wright's. You guys will still get the Orlando/Daytona/Jax area kids. But Meyer made a living off cherry picking away kids from Dade and Broward county in front of Larry Coker. That seems to be gone, though that's only based on one recruiting class...

That's what I'm banking the trend of UF/UM/FSU in the coming years.

Agree that our O was inept. No one thought or said pre-game we were barn burners on O.

I'll leave it at that.

I am curious to watch how you guys match up against the Vols in 2 weeks. They were fairly highly rated until the UCLA game. Curious to contrast and compare Miami and UT - since they are so much more highly regarded.

My friends up there have a ticket for me - but I may go to College Station to see my boys. Since I missed the UF game due to Gustav.

You have your view, I has mine.

They flew.
My brother works at the G'ville airport and was able to get a bunch of pics when they took off (at like 1:30am Sunday morning) and landed on Friday.
He talked to a bunch of them as they walked by - said they were all nice kids. Marve was PO'ed after the game though.

Yeah dude. This looks to be a wild CFB season, based on these 2 weeks. So glad I have cable TV.
(Hope to God Ike doesn't come here. Ugh.)

I cheered at UCLA's win over UT. :D

Florida will run over UT like they did last year. Too much talent in the UF squad all around. I predict........42-10 UF.

I f'ing missed that one also. Was in the aftermath of Gustav at that time. The eye moved through about 2 or 3pm or so that night. Game started 7pm. No power then.

I hope all is well with you j. I forget that even though you're a UM fan, you live in looziana. :)

This Ike situation still makes me nervous.

haha. Pot...meet kettle.

How hypocritical can Shannon (and you) be when he was part of the Miami teams notorious for keeping in their starters to run up the scores.

A late field goal through potential recruits is devoid of any professionalism. Shannon should act like a professional, a man, and go to the opposing coach...shake his hand (firmly) and say "Coach, good game...you guys have a very good team and although I understand why you did what you did at the end, i would have not done that." Meyer would have responded..."i was impressed with your D because of its toughness and athleticism. Good luck the rest of the year." Don't call recruits and b!tch and moan about class and then tell them to make their statements public...

Although we had won the game, the score was not 45-3...it was 23-3 and yes, it did have implications for "style" points for the BCS and Vegas line. Our kicker had not attempted a field goal yet this year...it was time for him to kick one. What do we do? Go for it and score? Or take a knee and give you the ball?

If Meyer revealed his character by beating up on the University of Miami, then maybe Shannon revealed something about himself by going for a 4th down at the 40-yard line against Charleston Southern in the fourth quarter.

Right... 'cause trouncing Oregon State and Coastal Carolina (who??) make them legitimate contenders. Oregon State made Stanford look ferocious.

I will say this... if Penn State does beat the Buckeyes, then they just might go undefeated, because the only other challenge on their schedule is Wisconsin. Hey, with the Big 10 in its current sad state, Penn State just might be the new Ohio State!

Maybe.......but they'd just meet the SEC anyway in the end and get it handed to them. :p ;)

I was gonna say it... but I'm glad YOU did! Being a lifelong Tide fan, I rarely root for the Gators. That being said, you f@#kers better play your asses off on Oct. 11, because I can barely deal with the LSU fans in my family!

LSU is going down!!!! They should have last year anyway, but that's a whole different story......:D

Man, I love threads like these. The smack-talker in me comes to life! Living in the Bay Area, it's hard to find real college football enthusiasts. People here think Cal-Stanford is actually a "big game." Don't get me wrong, I support Cal... but it's just not like growing up in SEC country. There is almost nothing that compares to the Alabama-Auburn rivalry... Well, except for maybe... Alabama-Tennessee... or perhaps Alabama-Florida... or quite possibly Alabama-LSU... HA!

Its better than the people in va thinking tech is like the best football program of all time..... :frustrate:

Btw, I'm a 5th grade teacher and my students are learning the 50 states. Two weeks into the school year, they were wondering why I haven't mentioned a few of them.

"Mr. ____, what about those states just east of California?"

"Oh, don't worry about them, Jimmy... they contain Mountain West schools."

Looks like Ike is taking a path more west, so you guys look to be safe right now.

Confounded by a defense loaded with freshman and sophs - eh?

Miami started 13 seniors and juniors vs. Florida. Florida started 12 sophomores. Florida is the only team in the SEC with no senior starters on defense. Miami started 4 seniors on defense and eight of its 22 starters were seniors. A lot of people want to attribute the win to our experience, but the truth is that Florida is a younger team than Miami.

Pac 10 is loaded, best conference. Teams seem faster than SEC teams

Ummm, yeah... no. They key word in your statement is "seem." C'mon now... I'm a huge Cal fan, and USC and Oregon look solid, but I'm also REALISTIC. The Pac-10 is not the premier conference. UCLA beating Tennessee is not a statement game. The Bruins would get throttled by Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, or Alabama. The SEC has 5 of the top 11 teams in the AP poll and 5 of the top 16 in the coaches' poll. The last two national champions have come from the SEC.

The Big 12 is a distant second place, followed by the Pac-10. That's just the way it is right now. I can't imagine anyone coming up with a strong argument against this, but knock yourself out.

ouch!!! ilinois is my bigger worry than wisconsin. yeah..i know coastal carolina(who?)..every conference has there cupcake game or 2.

I can still remember the glory days of Alabama-Penn State games. "Bear" Bryant and Paterno had quite a rivalry. The '79 Sugar Bowl is one of my first memories of college football. One of the best defensive battles ever.

I have a ton of respect for Joe Pa... he's done more for the college game than anyone in modern history. I find myself pulling for PSU when I catch their games on Saturday. I think it's the classic uniforms. I'm extremely biased, but I think 'Bama and Penn State have the best uni's e-v-e-r.

:goodpost:That's a solid point. And what's with all this Miami talk? They've won 2 out of their last 9 games. They're almost irrelevant at this point. The other day, someone asked me what I thought about Miami.

I replied, "I don't."

The only way LSU is going down is if one of yall's teams blows themselves up along with us after losing (badly).:rasp:

LSU lost twice last year... in a championship season. I'm guessing they will lose at least that many games this year. The combination of having an inexperienced QB and having to play at Auburn and Gainesville, not to mention a schedule that includes pissed off Georgia and 'Bama teams, probably won't allow them to repeat as SEC champs this year. Don't get me wrong, they're a solid team once again, but the schedule is absolutely brutal. The same can be said for four other SEC teams... but LSU has a big bull's-eye on them this season.

That's probably closer to the truth.

I just don't have it in my heart to humor any doubts in the purple and gold war machine.

Point taken.

Man, there are going to be some great games in the coming weeks. Roll Tide! Geaux Tigers! (Wow, that last one was painful to type. :p)
