What's the difference between the two?

More money, more responsibility, and more liability.

However, i'll also be in a practitoner role also.

I really meant what's the difference. I don't know anything about what a physician assistant does. Have you thought about going for the MD at all?

I have, but i'm not sure i'm willing to give up that much at this point. I REALLY wish when i was 19 that i went for it when i had the chance, but things are just different all over now.

If i wasn't married and didn't want kids soon, i may have pursued it.

A P.A. is basically the step inbetween a nurse and physician. You are a practitoner, so you treat and diagnose people, although under the supervision of a physician.

My wife always tells me to go for it, but i really want kids more. I enjoy where i'm at in medicine, but if i could get to the next step i'll seriously be satisfied with myself overall. :)

I've been putting a lot of though into becoming an endo the past few months. The GF has been telling me to go for it and I am either going to do that or go for the Ph.D.

Well, i'm going to be a hypocrite and tell you to go for it rod!

The one thing i seriously regret in my life is not going to med school. I know i could have done it man, but made BAD choices when it mattered.

Thankfully i made a good choice in my wife. :p

She still tells me all the time to do it, but i want kids man. I'll be 30 in a few months, and i don't want my kids to grow up when i'm ancient.

I will go on to the P.A. role though man. I wish you MUCH luck in you journey rod and TOTALLY encourage you to chase your dreams. If i wasn't married man, i probably would. Do it!! :D

Whats your major broseph???

Nothing Selected.

I'm taking a lot of courses that would increase my performance when I enlist, it's amazing the amount of information laying around waiting to be absorbed, my brain is f*cking greedy, I have a huge f*cking appetite when it comes to learning, I need to learn everyday....or write about different ideas I get, I have zero attention span when it comes to non-applicable info though, if I can't use it to enhance myself at one point or another, spare me, that's why I'm not really looking for a degree, I'll take 1000 courses before I ever get a degree, I want to learn what will benefit me and my specific goals.

Major: Juris doctorate, Environmental Law
Graduation year/month: Spring 12
Classes this Semester:
  • Torts
  • Real Property I
  • Contracts I
  • Civil Procedure
  • Research & Writing I

Should not be fun :run:

I really think you should go for it. You can still have kids and do it, it will NOT be easy but it is possible. If that is what you really want you shouldn't let anything stop you.

I had a dream to become an attorney that I never thought would happen. I was married, had a home and felt a bit "tied down." We too want kids soon. But I decided I wanted to better myself (and provide a better future for my family) and chase after my dream. I bit my lip and applied for some big student loans and went for it

I already feel better about myself as I feel I've made a huge accomplishment in my life. The best part is yet to come.

Intended Major: Exercises Science or Pre-Med (freshman first semester).

nah man PA is where it is that these days... from what i have read/heard from those in the field...
you dont need malpractice insurance (save $10-15k a month right there) and you have more set hours (ie almost 9-5)

I dont know too many docs that spend a ton of quality time with their kids. no offense to anyone, this is just my experience with the families i know. Id rather be a PA.. still making GOOD money, and be able to balance the family. there is nothign worse than being stuck at the job 90 hours a week when you are passionate about having a family...

its all about compromise. theres a lot of things in life that i have given up/missed out.... but i love where all of those missed opportunities have brought me to today. Im right where i need to be.

Luckily I found an "old school" doctor, he'll literally spend an hour or more with you for a routine physical. These docs are few and far between though. I think a PA is a great gig though

The best gig for doctors is being a corporate doctor. My neighbor is the 'head' doctor for 3M. All he does is travel around with the big wigs in case they get sick or some ****. Safe to say he makes BANKKKKKK, gets to travel all over for free and works 9-5 when he's here.

I agree dave. It seems to be the best place to be at this point and still have a functional family life. I hate to say it, but the LARGE majority of dr. friends i have can't sustain a marriage or relationship.

Especially surgeons.........i swear everyone i've ever known is divorced.

I will be going back to get my P.A. I have the drive and motivation right now to do it, so i'll act on it while i do. :D
