Honestly man, I don't know. Been a PC user for ~20 years now.

If you are doing P2P stuff, look into something like Peer Guardian 2 (windows program, might be a mac version).

I'm sure there are better P2P programs than Limewire though.

It's mostly viruses that you are going to pick up through content, not necessarily the program itself. And most of that virus payload is going to be geared towards Windows boxes, as that is the largest user base.

With the PC, Avant segregates them and puts them in a vault. Not sure on Mac. I'll ask my wife tonight. I think she has Norton.

No one really writes viruses for Mac's. Definitely learn how to use torrents and you should be safe. Once you start up college you will probably be able to get free anti-virus from them so just don't store anything to important on the laptop now without backing it up and you should be set.

PS. Mac's are where its at.

It would be like making a movie for blind & deaf people. With such a miniscule marketshare (sub 4%), what's the point?

I agree completely, I was a PC guy until about 4 years ago when I bought a Mac so I could learn my way around them because a few people at my old job had them and I was suppose to support them. I use PC more still but my Mac has been super reliable. I am actually surprised Mac is still coming out with as many computers as they do, I would have thought they would have switch to primarily personal entertainment and communication devices like the Iphone as there main products.

ill tell you what otday is the first day i used it and i absolutely love it. i have had more stuff open at one time then ever before on a PC and yet it did not slow down a bit. whats torrent? limewire on my PC has that option, but i dont know what it means

A torrent is a peer to peer technology.

A person has a file(s) and they are indexed. The index builds a .torrent file. This file is uploaded to what is called a tracker (Server). Now this server host the torrent for download. When another person downloads the torrent, the server tells that client about the other people that have the file or pieces of the file. Then the swapping commences.

A seeder is a person that has the whole file, and shares it with everyone. A leecher is a client that has part of the file.

Thats the quick and dirty.

No need for anti-virus for a mac. I've been running apple for sometime now and visit some unscrupulous sites sometimes and not once had a virus. I would recommend YASU and use it to clean up your caches and cookies etc. that's about all you need to do.

If you start using torrents I would suggest downloading Transmission. It's a great torrent tool.

I've had an iMac for almost 3 years now and i have used LimeWire the entire time without any problems. The PC version is riddled with BS, but the Mac version is clean.

it's free or you can donate if you wish. Just run it every now and then to clean up your cache files etc. All default options are the best so really no need to adjust them.

I've been having a lot of trouble with Limewire and Ares for a few months now. A lot of ISP's are beginning to target users who exceed bandwith use, which usually means the user is downloading a lot of media, so the ISP can restrict your usage and even block connections from your IP to a p2p network.

I've been having to use Firefox and the DWHelper add-on to download music from the Projectplaylist website.
