This thread is old but oh well. You guys put anything under your heels? I do. I throw a 5lb plate under each foot. I feel it helps balance and realy notice a difference/ focus on the front and side.

I did this the other day and it makes a lot of difference. i didnt relize putting weights under your feet made that much of a difference. Leanr something new all the time. It keeps getting better and better

Yea, i noticed it helped with balance a bit too. I actually used to do without. Say that in a mag Arnie had a rolled towel under his, gave it a shot, definetly liked it better.

i guess ill reopen this after quite a long break

375x5

I find Im stronger on Zerchers than Front. Too much weight on Zerchers on the crease of my arm could be a challange. Isn't there a zercher made thing to assist with this?

Right now I dont see doing either in my upcoming routine.

do any of you guys use an inclined ramp to do front squats on, i use one and a narrow stance, it really hits your quads like better than normal.

I just found out if I keep my feet really close together almost touching I can do these without my knees hating me. I just started going heavy on these this past week and I hit 225x2 easy at 180lbs, I was warming up for back squats and just felt like going for it, I also hit a new PR for deadlift on the same day so I was really stoked!! I finally broke 400!!. After reading this post I'm motivated to get my front squat up to 315!!

just did lunges and split squats for the first time yesterday evening (a few hours ago) 225x5 each leg on both exercises, gonna try and jump up to 250x5 next week.

Which lift is better for overall leg development, front or back squats? I can't do back squats right now due to an injury, but front squats can be done fine.

Pretty sure front squats are just more of a quad loaded exercise. Back squats are more hamstring and glute loaded exercise.
I would just say back squats seeing as more weight, usually, is being distributed throughout your muscles but i dont know any scientific evidence about it.

what kind of injury do you have?

Left knee doesn't like it when I do back squats. It hurts the farther I go past parallel.

hmmm and front squats dont hurt your knees? that's weird. have you tried a wider stance on back squats? that seemed to help my knee pain

definately back squats, front squats is just an isolation of the quads, back works glutes, quads, and hamms

I have tried a wide stance, but I can hardly hit parallel with it, I think it's due to the lack of flexibility in my hips. I can try again tomorrow though.

Front squats are okay on my left knee, which is odd considering back squats hurt it. I'll try the wide stance tomorrow.

anymore than 225 or so i feel like my shoulders are gonna fall of

410LBS X 2 Hoping to put another 50-80 lbs on that in the next 6 months though.
