Viking/Asatru related tats

I just turned 28 and I promised myself if I ever got tatted up, I'd start before 30 while my skin is still fresh. I'd like to get something
related to my northern ancestry, that would honor my hertiage and
carry meaning. I'd like it done free hand if I can find someone with the skill, and preferably someone who's familiar with Odinistic imagery, etc. Even if I have to travel north I suppose I would do it,
but can anyone make any recommendations for freehand artists in the continental US?
 
wow, all these bodybuilders and no tatt recommendations? kinda surprised, I know there's plenty of ink on these boards.
 
Pentagram, Upside-down Thor hammer, Ankh, Swastika, Iron Cross.

You'd have to be too hardcore for your own good to get the pentagram or swastika though.
Way too many good ones have been claimed by white supremacists, so too bad.

um. I'm an Asatruar, a real Odinist. I fear no 'hate group'. I'm a well studied and practicing Vitki, I could craft my own runework that would carry far more weight than a swastika inked over the flesh of some misguided 'supremacist' who probably couldn't even tell me what it represented before Nazi germany, much less speculate along with me as to why Hitler chose it as the ideogram for his army. Ankhs are Egyptian, and Iron crosses & pentagrams have jack to do with Viking culture. I'm asking for artist recommendations, not tat suggestions.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Thor's hammer is named Mjölnir by the way.

Where are you located?
 
I live in Jupiter, FL which is basically West Palm Beach. Like i mentioned though, for this to be done well, I'd be willing to travel far.

I have not had anything done by this guy, but I have seen literally hundreds of his creations featured in the magazines over the years. They are pretty outstanding IMHO.

On a side note..... I think it may be beneficial to get it done locally, just because of the amount of sessions that may be involved.

according to his site, since he's accustomed to international clientelle, anyone traveling from out of state is accomodated with transportation from the airport to the shop, as well as hotel accomodations. Fine work indeed, but I imagine I'll have plenty of time to work on my physique while saving up for it, lol.

My bad, I'm Anglo-Saxon so all my knowledge about Norse paganism comes from listening to a lot of Viking metal. Ankhs (or at least figures shaped like Ankhs) are a norse symbol also, I believe. Maybe I'm wrong.

And I was just saying if you chose certain symbols more commonly used by supremacists, you might get tons of misconceptions, which I would find extremely annoying.

yeah, you can see how edgy my response was, lol
It will be annoying to put up with, but those kind of encounters would provide me an opportunity to share whatever knowledge I have for the good of the Asatru community, so, I suppose it would be a worthy burden to take up.

yeah, I can come up with my own runework no problem,
and i'm sure any local artist can handle that much well enough.
But, for my back I definitely want someone with a bit of clout
in the artistic community to handle it, because I'm thinking of the following:

Warrior option
1. Viking raiders setting upon an anglo-saxon shore, with defenders
ready to give them a warm welcome; the focal
point being a Viking still shin deep in ocean water thrusting his spear clean through and out the back of the nearest defender. I'd be sure to have the slain warrior drawn with a weapon in hand and at least one of the vikings taking a wound in the background, it's not my intention to dishonor the Kelts or other Anglo-Saxons.

Brave Explorer Option
A longship in danger of being crushed at sea, but with the crew showing bravery and defiance. I might like to incorporate the belief of the time that the world was flat here

the Feral mystic option (gravitating to this one)
A Vitki carving a set of Elder Futhark runes from human skeletal
remains. the pupils of his eyes would be shaped like runes (undecided which) or, Yggdrasil in one eye and my name represented as a bind-rune in the other.
