I finally went to a doctor the other day and was precribed some heavy duty muscle relaxers cause im having bad muscle spasma in my upperb back/neck. Is it detrimental to muscle growth/recovery to take them? I havent been to the gym since Monday because of a cold and the muscle spasms.

any info would be appreciated

The H E L L with your general practitioner. Pain kills are only masking the pain….its not fixing the problem and yes it will affect protein synthesis and a **** load of other problems. Only go to them for antibiotics or a referral to a smarter Doctor. Go to a message therapist, chiropractor, do some mineral baths, a slight lay off from the gym and make sure your potassium, magnesium and calcium levels aren’t low. If still no improvements then go back to Dr. Idiot that gave you the pain killers and get some further test (x’rays, cat scan and stuff).

if it doesnt have tylenol or other NSAIDS it wont effect your gains.

Whenever I get surgery or teeth out I always wish they would just make vicodin without the damn anti catabolic, liver toxic tylenol. (luckily thats one been a concern of mine twice)

Not too sure of the difference, but i was refering to muscle relaxers, not pain killers. It just makes me so calm and relaxed i go to sleep. Ive only taken it twice and i feel 100% now. Massages from my gf helped a lot also.

what is the muscle relaxer the doctor prescribed? is it skelaxin? if it is they work pretty decent as far as taking care of pain but im not sure how it will effect your gains.

its called cyclobenzaprine, generic for flexeril

MODS please edit if im not allowed to post their names

Flexeril will/can kill you if mixed with alcohol so dont do that (you prolly werent planning on it)

As I already said, if theres not tylenol in there, and I dont think there is, then it wont hurt your gains. (the worry with NSAIDs such as tylenol is the reduction in inflamation, from what I know of flexeril it doesnt have that affect)
