Racing Heartbeat = Yikes

So, tonight, 'bout thirty minutes ago actually, I was at the gym finishing up my session with a heavy set of squats.. As I came up from say my 3rd rep I had a funny sensation in my chest, so I racked it and put my hand to my chest.. My heart was beating like crazy, undoubtedly unnaturally fast..

Anyway, I started freakin' out. Sat down, tried to calm down.. After a couple of minutes I was good..

Now for the question.. I had taken RPM, Drive, and Swell, what do you think caused this? I'm leaning towards the RPM since I have been known to be sensitive to caffiene, but I've never really had this much of a problem before.. So, what do you guys and ladies think?

how many RPM's did you take?

If your sensitive to caffeine, heavy lifting exercises such as squats, deadlifts and bench presses can be kind of draining. My heart beats very fast if I take caffeine and hit deadlifts. It's almost to the point where it is scary.

Just be careful when lifting. Dont overdo the weights and try not to overdo the RPM. Its a strong stim if you take 4-5 caps. Just try to rest after the lift if anything. That always helped me.

One time I did deadlifts till I almost blacked out. My heart was racing like crazy. I sat down on the mats and gave myself a minute to cool off.

Hope that helps.

P.S The nagarin content in both drive and RPM helps to enhance the effects of stims. It helps to make RPM stronger and more effective. And yes, it means RPM is better than all the other pre-workout stims out there ;)

I only took 2.. I'm extra-sensitive to caffiene... As sad as I am to say it, I may have to drop good ol' RPM... this truly is sad... I still love you AN!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Cellardude again.

Thanks man!

you might want to try one and ramp up the dosages. Give yourself a week on one cap pre-workout. I dont know why you would drop this....

It makes it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much cheaper for you. Try one cap pre-workout, try not to overexhaust yourself during a workout. Intensity is great but dont overdo it. Try ramping up the dosages. You might want to do like 1 RPM preworkout with 3 drive caps. After a week or so ramp it up. Dont go too high. I noticed that on stims reguardless if you feel the "energy" your heart beat is still increased. Your lucky your sensitive to stims. that means you can use less :D

Well sir, I appreciate your help.. But, if I cannot feel the energy from the RPM (which I won't at 1 cap), I'd rather just forget about it and be safe with my ticker.. Gosh, I get so nervous before sets as it is (which is ridonkulous I know), I really don't need anything getting my heart rate up..

I'll stick with Drive for sure.. But RPM may have to be donated to someone more tolerant to these types of things.

you could just do the 1 caps to asset your tolerance. You might not exactly feel it but when you allow your body to get used to it you can up the dosages to get the full benefits :)

RPM is a good pre-workout stim but then agian, stims just may not be for everyone. Perhaps you have some sort of condition? maybe high blood pressure or anything along those lines?

I know my brother will get a immense headache with 100mg of caffeine. Its just not for everyone :(

High BP fo' sho'. I'm on meds for it actually.. Lisinopril...

Maybe dat dere high bp was playin' a role in the racing heart business.

That's weak..

You know, I really think that I may have some anxiety issues that contribute to this as well.. like, srsly.

I'd bet the farm it's stim related from the RPM. It's kind of unusual that it happened during a set though. When you perform heavy sets you actually inadvertantly produce a "vagal manuever" when bearing down during the set. This actually causes a drop in heart rate and blood pressure. This is exactly what happens when you see someone perform a heavy set and pass out.... If significant enough, bearing down stimulates the vagal nerve which causes your heart rate/blood pressure to suddenly drop thus decreasing perfusion to your brain resulting in syncope(passing out.) I would cut back on the stim(RPM) and build a tolerace first to help avoid this from happening. Make sure you are staying very well hydrated also as that can play a major role also.

you're the man Trauma.. Thank you.

Trauma, question..

Before heavy sets, especially with squat, I get ultra-nervous and my heart beats pretty fast before I even start the set.. You think that may be contributing?

Yes it sure can. Anxiety causes the massive release of epi/norepi which would increase resting heart rate/blood pressure. Now if you add a stim in the mix you can see how this can be amplified significantly and contribute to palpitations. I'd cut back on the stims and build your tolerace. I think in time you'll get yourself to the point where you're stim is still effective with minimal adverse effects. I worked nights for almost 7 years and i swear i became immune to caffeine and stims.....i miss the days of buzzing around off a single cup of coffee haha

Thanks again Trauma. Chances are, I'll just drop the stims completely, they're not totally necessary anyway, just nice.

I think you've got it..

If i only do it on the days I squat tolerance shouldn't be an issue at all..

thanks man :)

Valsalva (breathing holding) during you set can cause some large increases in BP along with a concurrent drop in BP (although temporary)- this can mess with heart rate as well.....plus the forskolin in Drive and icariin in RPM/Drive actually lowers BP for many users- so I am not sure if the RPM caused the problem- it could have been a lot of different factors- you could have just pushed yourself too hard- RPM/Drive allows you to work a lot harder than normal :) I would err on the side of caution and reduce the dosage of all the supplements you are taking, and re-evaluate

You're absolutely right rms, there really is no one way to pinpoint the problem as it could be many different factors that contributed to the problem. I didn't mean to come off sounding like i was solely blaming RPM lol. I can say this much, i love RPM and use it as my pre-workout staple. :D

Pre-workout - only add ONE new thing at a time, and if it is your first time using it, start with the lowest possible dosage to assess your tolerance.

In particular, if you know you are sensitive to some ingredients, it may be beneficial to take a trial dose without a pending workout, just so you know how your body reacts. This should help with issues in the future.
