On a one-to-one comparison, propionyl-l-carnitine is superior to acetyl-l-carnitine in boosting libido and addressing erectile dysfunction. A combination of the two is, however, recommended. I do not imply this is the only option for libido-boosting. I simply compared the (two) next-generation carnitine forms.

Did you also (mega-dose) any potent anti-oxidant such as alpha lipoic acid during your acetyl-l-carnitine mega-dosing? This is usually recommended to manage the increase in free-radical activity triggered by acetyl-l-carnitine-induced elevation in mitochondrial function.

There are some posts of LEF recommending people separate there ALA doses from there ALCAR doses by about 3 hours... (due to the anti ox at time of stress contradiction or something along those lines, over my head)

Who or what is LEF? Life Extension Foundation?

It is exactly because of the elevated acetyl-carnitine-induced free-radical activity that an antioxidant such as alpha lipoic acid is usually recommended for simultaneous consumption. As a matter of fact, Life Extension Foundation's premier product for mitochondrial protection, Mitochondrial Energy Optimizer, combines two advanced carnitine forms (acetyl-carnitine-HCL and acetyl-carnitine-arginate dihydrochloride) and r-lipoic-acid, amongst others. So LEF basically combined potent antioxidants with ALCAR and acetyl-carntine-arginate, in line with the classical recommendation.

In any case, I would appreciate a reference of any Life Extension Foundation recommendation for separating carnitine and antioxidants. That would help clarify a lot of things.

Some random forum user. Thanks for the information :D
