I've decided to give White Flood by controlled labs, a solo run. (Originally inspired by a ridiculously vascular, Texan Viking here at AM.)

I'm an infamous "stacker" of supplements and cycles, never running a supplement in an exclusive manner. This is normally because I run supplement logs with a set of objectives at the end of the tunnel to which I hope to achieve (more muscle and/or less fat) and my experiments with supplements haven't ever been for the sake of experimentation and scrutiny, but experiencing the journey of stacks of cross cultural breeding (multiple supplements from various companies) with a set purpose of attaining a certain physiological morph when its all done. However, this time, the point of my supplementation is not intentionally for the sake of losing weight or gaining muscle, but merely scrutinizing the supplement from a performance enhancement point of view.

I have been a skeptic of NO supplements for years. White Flood boasts of their classical Arginine and Ornithine synergy and the Russian myth, Inosine. Those are the only two ingredients I've had personal false experiences with, however, I'm willing to give the White Flood matrix a try. Perhaps their full spectrum of combined ingredients will make me a believer.

If I get stronger, great, if I lose weight due to it's boasting of excess energy, even better, but my primary focus is White Flood's direct effect to performance enhancement during a workout.

I'll be sipping on White Flood pre and the bulk of it during my workouts.

P.S. I'm a strength & conditioning specialist and I'm training my friend and workout partner Zack, who'll be flying out to Colorado for a fight at the end of July, and will be filmed for a new Mtv Realities series. I've put him on a power program, therefore, we may or may not see plyo's and power exercises making their way into my log. In the case that they do, it would be because I'm assisting him in his work out and that would be the only reason. Apart from that little tid bit, I'll be bodybuilding.

My order should be in by Friday.

Hey Easy,
Inosine caught my attention a few years back (around 2000-2001). I'm going to offer a very broad, unrefined and a "has room for improved accuracy" summation of Inosine (recalling from memory from many years back). I believe the initial interest arose from either Germans or Russians, when one of them still had scientists trying to produce super soldiers and/or superior athletes. In sum, Inosine, as I vaguely recall, is either a pre-cursor, a derivative, or a pre-cursor component to Adenisone, thus, hypothesized to aid in the production of Adenosine Mono- Di- and/or Triphosphate and we are all aware of the role of these currencies of energies.

I ran an Inosine and Creatine combination back then, however, I was young enough to have an over-the-top expectations of supplements and if my six pack or 50lbs strength gain didn't come within 8 hours of ingestion, I may have not given it the credit it may have potentially deserved had I been wiser and more realistic (I actually wasn't quite that bad), but years and years of supplement experience has definitely added some wisdom and realistic expectations.

Therefore, I am excited about this White Flood matrix. I'll be revisiting a lot of these energy ingredients, but never in such a wide spectrum of a cocktail.

Sad news

My White Flood did not come in today as anticipated. I hate the feeling of letting "new" logs linger with inactivity. Especially when you guys were kind enough to drop in. I truly feel a weighted obligation when I begin new logs, so these delays feel really ugh for me.

I may begin logging the two or potentially three workouts I may have before Monday hits for the sake of discipline. Perhaps this may offer a contrast, once I begin to drown myself in a White Flood.

Good idea, we can compare the cold workouts to the ones with WF.

And I like the anticipation :) But it's too bad you didn't get it today! Bummer! :frustrate

Christmas Miracle in the middle of Summer

Since the dawn of man, FedEx has delivered to this particular location between the hours of 11:00am and 2:00pm. When the time of sudden death (2:00pm) had past, I turned my anticipation for the arrival of my package to the following Monday. However, Santa Claus must have been here at the West Coast getting his tan on, when he hijacked a FedEx truck, in conjunction with the spirit of Los Angeles. Stripped the FedEx guys uniform, as a tribute to East Coast thugs in order to remain bipartisan and showed up with my White Flood at 4:30 p.m., dressed as the FedEx delivery guy and driving the FedEx truck via armed robbery, just one hour before I leave work and head into the gym. Thats my Christmas Story.

In lieu of my Christmas Miracle, the idea of a compare and contrast workout went from making the best of a situation, to an actual good idea. Therefore, I'll post my last workout where I was naked of any supplements and this will be a good working out cold vs working out with White Flood contrast.

Death by super-sets.

All supersets were performed with less then 10 seconds between super-set transitions. All exercises were done with about 2 min rest between sets, and about 2 min rest between exercises.

Flat Bench/T-Rows
225lbs x 15 reps/135lbs x 15 reps
245lbs x 9 reps/160lbs x 12 reps
245lbs x 8 reps/175lbs x 10 reps

Flat Db Press/Standing Db Shrugs
85lbs Db's x 15 reps/85lbs Db's x 15 reps
90lbs Db's x 12 reps/90lbs Db's x 15 reps
95lbs Db's x 8 reps/95lbs Db's x 15 reps

Body Weight, Under Grip Pull Ups/Body Weight Dips
10 reps/12 reps
9 reps/10 reps
8 reps/10 reps

Pull Over Machine/Push Ups
150lbs x 10 reps/ 20 push ups
150lbs x 10 reps/20 push ups
150lbs x 10 reps/20 push ups

I only have one super-set day so far, but I may include more.

I came to think that scrutinizing a supplement for “performance enhancement” is a very broad and general idea. Therefore, I thought I’d create a template to which I’ll be sharing my experience on. Of course nothing I share is an objective or truly accurate account of the products direct effects. Outside of an actual controlled environment, with literal measurements and a whole lot of information with tons of paper & penciling required when “testing,” its all subjective. How I “feel” its working. I also don’t want to get too technical, given nobody is here to read thickets of questionable information from a subjective experience. Simple, relatable and informative will be my goal.

Mental and Physical Performance
#1. Pre Workout Intensity: How I feel before I get into the gym. We all know that it isn’t necessarily imperative that we arrive at the gym shadow boxing in excitement to hit the iron in order to have a great workout, but it does help tremendously when you are that pumped full of intensity beforehand.
#2. Intensity Within The Set: How energized I remain within the set. Do I have that extra squeeze of energy to pull off reps that are related more so due to muscle endurance, rather then actual muscle failure.
#3. Intensity Between Sets: How motivated and energized I remain from set one, progressing through the final set.
#4. Intensity Between Exercises: How motivated and energized I remain from exercise to exercise.
#5. Post Exercise Energy. Am I walking out the gym like Leonidous of 300 Spartans or dragging myself out in a psychological stretcher.

The list can go on and on, but I’ll probably include these base assessments in all my workouts, including other mention-able(s) I’m sure I’ll note. As you can see I talk a lot.

Of course there will be lots of mediating variables. What if I simply don’t feel like workout out that day? This will have nothing to do with White Flood’s effects. I will note that.

What if I didn’t get enough rest? my diet is lacking the kcals to meet the energy demands I’m over-trained. I’m wary of all these concerns and many more. I know my body very well and I know where to accredit benefit or blame with certain degree of integrity. Life happens and we’ll see how the White Flood floats along with it.

First Impressions

Big Bad Back. It appears my latest fad are super-sets and drop-sets, or whatever I can do to make my workouts above and beyond. Without further delay...

One Arm, Hammer Low Rows, Drop-Set from Hell.
Set One
(2) Plates x 15 reps each arm, drop
(1) Plate x 15 reps e.a. (This set was more of a warm up)

Set Two
(3) Plates x 10 reps each arm, drop
(2) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(1) Plate x 10 reps e.a., drop

Set Three
(4) Plates x 10 reps each arm, drop
(3) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(2) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(1) Plate x 10 reps e.a., drop

Set Four
(5) Plates x 10 reps each arm, drop
(4) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(3) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(2) Plates x 10 reps e.a., drop
(1) Plate x 10 reps e.a.

Can we say 100 reps drop set!!!
And that's how you open a show.

Underhand Grip, Hammer Rows, super-set, Neutral Grip Hammer High Rows
130lbs x 15 reps, super-set, 100lbs x 15 reps
145lbs x 12 reps, super-set, 120lbs x 12 reps
160lbs x 10 reps, super-set, 140lbs x 10 reps

Lat Pull Downs, super-set, Machine Pull Overs

165lbs x 12 reps, super-set, 140lbs x 12 reps
180lbs x 10 reps, super-set, 155lbs x 10 reps
195lbs x 8 reps, super-set, 170lbs x 8 reps

I know this doesn't look like a lot, but believe me, after that initial drop set from Hell opener, everything following that hurt, and on top of that, I was super-setting everything. This was an intense workout.

About the White Flood:

Pre-Gym Intensity: To my surprise, it was not the reaction I expected. I expected a Stim motivation, where you feel like you can't sit still and you have to start running laps before your eye balls get pushed out your head. Traditional Stim motivation has more of a physical and mental, "I can't sit still and I want to release this energy on the weights or the stairmaster" kind of feel. However, my experience today was not a crack headed one. I would have to say it seemed more of a inspirational effect then a physiologically motivational effect. Meaning, rather then feeling like I can't sit still, I felt really creative in ways I can push myself, with the energy confidence and expectations to be able to accomplish it. If that was too much dribble, the best way I can put it is, an inspirational vs motivational pre gym effect.

Intra-Set Effect: I did have a few occasions, where on reps 5-6 I was convinced I'd be done by reps 8-9 and ended up completing the desired 10-12 reps. I did have that extra, within the set edge.

Inter-Set Effect:
I did feel very energized between sets. I have to say my recovery time was almost instantaneous and that is NOT a testament to my conditioning, because I've been huffing and puffing like crazy during my workouts lately (strong reason for my wanting to try White Flood to begin with). My ability to catch my breath following that psychotic opening drop set was VERY, VERY fast. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it, because it seemed abnormal.

Between Exercises: Again, this heavily plays off of the inter-set effect. My energy never felt too drained to continue and my energy level did meet my inspirational demand of creatively, intense lifting.

Post-Exercise: I have way too much energy still, which scares me because I don't see how I'm going to sleep tonight. This does not feel like a Stimmed out energy, but a steady level of energy, at a high level, yes, but not over-the-top. To me, its remnant of 5 caps of RPM. It doesn't feel over-the-top, yet it seems endless.

My first impressions exceeded my expectations in that the experience was different than what I was anticipating. I expected an old fashioned Stim Sprint, but instead, I got a very contemporary steady state energy, but at a good, strong level.

Please note I have an outlandish tolerance for Stims, so perhaps White Flood may crack some of you out, but for me, it was unexpectedly pleasant.

Great first day, I'm extremely pleased with the intensity of my workout, throughout and I left the gym looking forward to tomorrows Chest day. Looks like super-sets and drop-sets are my new thing, so I'm sure there will be more pain tomorrow morning.

Second Impression; Good God

Pre-Gym Intensity: Again, I experienced less of a restless, physical motivation to workout, but more of a sense of creative inspiration. I kept thinking of ways I could extend my sets and increase the bar of intensity, which I excitingly achieved.

ARMS (bi's, tri's, forearms)

Db Hammer Curls, super-set, Laying Double Db Triceps Extensions, super-set, Double Db Reverse Wrist Curls.

Set One
50lbs Db's x 15 reps, super-set, 30lbs Db's x 15 reps, super-set, 30lbs Db's x 15 reps

Set Two
55lbs x 12 reps, super-set, 35lbs Db's x 12 reps, super-set, 35lbs Db's x 12 reps

Set Three
60lbs Db's x 8 reps, super-set, 40lbs Db's x 10 reps, super-set, 40lbs Db's x 12 reps

Concentrated Db Curls, super-set, Hammer Dips, super-set, Db Wrist Curls

Set One
40lbs Db's x 12 reps, super-set, 200lbs x 15 reps, super-set, 40lbs Db's x 12 reps

Set Two
45lbs Db's x 10 reps, super-set, 220lbs x 15 reps, super-set, 45lbs Db's x 10 reps

Set Three
50lbs Db's x 8 reps, super-set, 240lbs x 10 reps, super-set, 50lbs Db's x 8 reps

Cable Curls, super-set, Cable Reverse Triceps Extensions

100lbs x 15 reps, super-set, 120lbs x 15 reps
110lbs x 12 reps, super-set, 130lbs x 15 reps
120lbs x 10 reps, super-set, 140lbs x 15 reps

Close Grip Bench, Drop Sets

Set One
185lbs x 15 reps, drop,
135lbs x 15 reps

Set Two
225lbs x 10 reps, drop
185lbs x 5 reps, drop
135lbs x 10 reps

Set Three
225lbs x 8 reps, drop
185lbs x 5 reps, drop
135lbs x 5 reps

Everything was performed with very minimal rest. Transitions were seconds apart. The sets were minutes apart. I simply logged my previous set in my little notebook, grabbed the weights I needed for the next pyramid and began. Rest between exercises were a matter of walking to the station. My intensity was out of this world today.

I can say with utmost certainty. I would not have been able to do this last week. My conditioning has been going downhill ever since my injury, and these past two White Flood fueled workouts have had me feeling 100%. I haven't had the energy or desire (this is where this inspirational aspect I described comes in) to be so creatively intense and having the will to do it.

Intra-Set Intensity: I've been starting my Db hammer curls with 40lbs Db's and moving up to 50lbs. Today I inadvertently grabbed the 50lbs Db's (which is what I normally use during a strength phase, but not hypertrophy phase, which is where I'm at now) and it wasn't until around reps 10 that I realized I had the 50lbs Db's and not the 40's. I knew I had to push to 15 reps, because I'm stressing volume right now and walla, I did and completed my Hammers in a pyramid fashion with the volume I wanted. I believe Beta Alanine requires a load, until saturation phase, much like creatine, but I can't think of anything else that could have boosted my performance on this particular exercise as it did. Maybe the NO matrix??? hmmmm.....

Inter-Set Intensity: Absolutely there. I never felt winded. I felt numb on many occasions and a burning sensation that makes you silently scream inside for a couple seconds, but I never felt winded. Again, this is not a testament to my conditioning, because last week (last few weeks actually), I have been a pathetic, feet dragging mess, that burned out extraordinarily and uncharacteristically quickly.

Between Exercises Intensity: I was drenched, but fully motivated and inspired to keep my psychotic pace.

Post Exercise: I'm good. My energy level is still strong and steady. I can tell I couldn't go back and do that same workout again today, but I have no sense of a crash.

P.S. To my surprise I didn't have to resort to taking any sedatives last night to sleep.

I'm loving the White Flood. My only critique, is that I'm ultra sensitive to parasthesis (sp?), parasthesia? The itchy feeling underneath the skin, created by Beta Alanine. I felt it throughout my workout and I had to constantly scratch myself (to no avail), but its bearable. Again, I'm "ULTRA" sensitive to the parasthesis or parasthesia, so it may not even register on some of you who have a high tolerance for it. Apart from this little tid bit, three letters, WOW. I'm loving the experience so far.

Your beta-alanine experience is different from a similar sensation you experience after you consume niacin, the so-called "niacin flush".

There is no beta-alanine "flush" in the sense of the skin turning red (as with niacin). With beta-alanine, there is a tingling (called paraethesia) or itching of the skin. This is not an allergic reaction. It is a normal body reaction to the consumption of beta alanine, once the compound has been absorbed into the blood stream. The precise mechanism here is not fully known. However, there are two theories.
1) The tingling is initiated by beta alanine binding to nerve receptors. These nerve receptors are excited, making them fire off at random. The situation of many of these nerve cells just below the surface of the skin creates a prickling, pins-and-needles, sensation at certain spots on the skin. 2) As a nitric-oxide potentiator (not generator), beta Alanine magnifies the action of nitric oxide, making its effects stronger and longer-lasting. Consequently, after the consumption of beta alanine, when the body produces nitric oxide, its effects will be amplified, making us feel the extra blood flowing through the capillaries close to the surface of the skin.

The intensity of the tingling is dose-dependent and ceases after serum beta-alanine levels are saturated.

Neither the niacin flush nor the beta-alanine tingling sensation should be a cause for worry.

Great log, so far, bud!

Helluva workout, Volcom ! Loving the tri-set routine you're incorporating; anything to up the intensity huh ?!

Real happy the White Flood is working for ya, and I did tell ya it was above the ordinary ... didn't I ?! lol. The GABA/Beta Alanine gives me the parathesia every time, but that only helps boost my pre-workout focus and energy. I feel a warming sensation every time within 10-12 minutes of Consusmption. Love it !

I LOVE the tingles :afro: I get them with Incarnate when I dose it without carbs, but as I understand it absorbs better with carbs, so most of the time I don't feel the paraethesia, even though I find it pleasant.

Volcom, quality log brother, really interested in hearing how this goes for you, after reading Norway's experiences with it I have high hopes.

This my not apply to you but White Flood contains sucralose(splenda). Splenda causes rashes and itchy skin to people who are allergic to it.

True . . . . but in this case - with both Beta Alanine and GABA - the tingling-effect is known as parathesia. Most first-timers (and many who incorporate B.A. as a staple in their arsenal) will experience it. I personally love it. Literally, you'll be feeling the effects come on. What else could you ask for in a supplement ?! :afro:

Tonight was good, but not over-the-top excellent. It was not a result of a lack of supplement effect or motivation or anything like that. I worked out with my little brother today, so I kept the workout routine quite traditional. No extensive super-sets or excessive drop-sets. Just old fashioned 3-4 set pyramids. It was suppose to be super Tuesday, Chest & Back, but since my little bro was with me today, I didn't push it too, too hard. Baptism by fire is a great method for already established bodybuilding enthusiasts, but for someone who doesn't workout often, it just becomes a miserable and unappreciated experience if you over do it (which I love to do).

I'll have to update the details at a later time. I'm on my way out. Again, my intensity was GREAT, little, little rest between sets & exercises and I was drenched the entire time.

I was surprised myself. I probably wouldn't have used this kind of weight today, but some big guy offered to let me work in with him and he was already using the 100lbs Db's, so I didn't even warm up, I just jumped right in and started on 100lbs Db's. As he moved up in weight, I said, phucket. I actually pressed out more reps then he did (which was cool cause he was "larger" then I was by at least 60lbs; a lot of fat, but still).

I always smirked at the idea that NO supps could effect strength, because I can't wrap my mind around any true "acute strength" benefits from vasodilation. Endurance yes, increased recovery, more effective blood delivery, yes, yes, yes, but acute strength boosts... not so sure. However, my strength was above & beyond what I've been pushing lately, so I conspicuously raise my eye brow.

Intensity was great. My recovery from set to set and exercise to exercise was amazing. I don't feel Stimed out my brain in a restless manner, but like I've previously mentioned, a steady state energy, at a strong, but very day to day tolerable level. Which was not what I was expecting.

I had an insane workout planned for my partner Zack and I, but not for my little bro. Next time, my epic Chest/Back is to come. I get excited about these kind of things.

I appreciate everyones input on my parasthesia situation. I'm aware of its effects. I've supplemented with Beta Alanine before (and gave the entire kilo away to Norwegian because I was ULTRA, ULTRA, miserably sensitive to the parathesia). The parasthesia I get from White Flood isn't so bad. Once I start working out and the blood starts moving it calms it.

Just old fashioned 3-4 set pyramids
just out of curiosity and geometry, do your pyramids just go up in weight? If i'm pyramiding, I try to hit the high weight on 2nd~3rd set (while that muscle is still fresh) and then go down.

Me too. I do a 5 set pyramid with the max weight at set #3 and rep out in set #5 with lowest weight.

What do you guys do?

I normally peak out around the 3rd or 4th then move on to something else. But its a matter of preference. I notice Norwegian's Deadlifts usually go up, then back down. I don't personally ever backward pyramid unless I feel I'm using a weight I just can't handle with any form integrity. Like rowing a barbell curl rather then curling it. The closest I come to backwards pyramiding is simply repeating the peak set.

I take that back, I have reversed pyramid on one or two occasions, but its not a common practice for me. Its just a personal preference. I believe when I first, first got into bodybuilding, the principle of pyramiding then reverse pyramiding was initially for the warm up, peak out, then cool down, however, I stay heavy or at least hard hitting for most of the workout and I don't find the necessity for the cool down portion. I would only ever do it if I feel that this particular exercise feels like its working the most efficiently compared to any surrounding exercises. There's a Hammer Lat Pull Down that I've pyramided and reversed pyramided for a total of 10 to 12 sets because I feel this particular station hits the muscle group I want to work the most efficiently. Apart from that, I don't do it.

I'm looking forward to another good, but not over-the-top great workout tonight. Why? I'm working out with my little bro again. Is he cramping my style? Yes, but in all transparency, I haven't been the most involved or supportive older brother when he was growing up. I was always going through some personal drama that kept me selfishly focused on myself and the complications of my own problems (girls mostly, sad to say) and I wasn't the greatest big brother to him. Now that he's going off to college I think I realized he won't be my little brother who lives at home and i can see whenever its convenient for me to anymore, so I'm trying to make up for lost time. He always asked to workout with me before, but I didn't care to go through the hassle of lifting with someone who is literally, less then half my strength, all that loading and unloading seemed like such a burden, not to mention the severe lack of intensity. However, I'm trying to prioritize the family now. He'll be off in September for 4 years and I'll be finished this semester and its just one of those life epiphanies. The little brother is actually growing up and won't be living at home forever, so I better spend some time with him while I can.

I've always, always, always had an unhealthy balance of priorities when it came to bodybuilding, where bodybuilding was at the top of that pyramid. Nothing and no one was going to stop me from having a 200% workout. If you can't hang, we can't be workout partners. We can be best friends, but not workout partners. Every single session had to be epic, but just recently, I realized that the gym isn't going anywhere. Cycles come, cycles go and my world does not blow up if I don't get an epic workout in, so, even though my brother cramps my intensity for the time being, I'm just trying to have my priorities straight.

At his high school graduation I got really sad and hard on myself and realized, I have not been the greatest big brother, so what can I do to fix that? As small as letting him workout with me seems, i can tell its a big deal to him (and I'm teaching him how to drive, which is cool). Sorry about the long rant fellas, but I just wanted it clarify that if I'm not performing 200% at the gym, there is a monumental reason for it, because I LOVE to hit it like a maniac, as some or many of you may already know.

I've mentioned that I have an OCD with stacking products. Now that I'm a new and enthusiastic Controlled Labs fan, I went poking around through their stock of products. The Purple Wrath is a given interest, but my interest would be in the efficacy of their particular mix, because I already have a kilo of Leucine and BCCA's.

What really caught my eye, was number one, The New Neuphoria, and number two, "White Blood." I have this thing about "maxing out" a product. When I tried Anabolic Pump, I had to get Pslin in order to max out the insulin effect. When I tried 3-AD, I had to get Mass FX, Retain 2, Hyperdol X2 and X-factor, to max out the bulk experience. When I was on Adrenaline, I added Yohimbine and Ephedrine HCL...etc., you see the pattern?

Now that I'm enjoying the White Flood matrix, I have an itch to add the White Blood which contains an enhanced Arginine/Ornithine matrix. You see how this is an expensive habit?

The Neuphoria sounds interesting just because. I love me some endorphines and Neuphoria seems to work off of the naturally released endorphines associated with exercise. That's my kind of high. Anyway. I'm still running the White Flood solo, but I'm itching for some Neuphoria and White Blood.
