to determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor (Harris Benedict Equasion)

BMR Calculation = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year )

Harris Benedict Equasion:
If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9

once you know the number of calories you need to maintain your weight (using our BMR Calculator in conjunction with our Harris Benedict Equation, you can easily calculate the number of calories you need in order to gain weight.

if you want to gain body weight, obviously you need to consume more calories than you burn. one pound of body weight is roughly equivalent to 3500 calories, so eating an extra 500 calories per day will cause you to gain one pound a week.

set some goals, not ones that are way out there but which are achievable with some hard work. then smash the goals to pieces! :clean:

ta!

it works for me, in the gym and also the kitchen. If i've eaten what i planned to that day or a little more and got all my cals in, it makes me feel a little happier at the end of the day. I get quite annoyed with myself if my food intake is poor some days.

yeah, you got that right chub!
far too many people only set goals in the gym and not the kitchen.
problem is the gym goals won't be reached if their diet isn't right.
it seems that most spend way more time focused on their workouts than their diet. they workout like a maniac and then wonder why they aren't getting results.
those are some screwed up priorities.

thats honestly how i was, I mean I always new that eating was very important, but i noticed i wasnt changing much in weight wise/on the weights or looks, for a while now, what made me realize that was i am working out with my friend who is 190, and i owned him in all categories of lifting, but in bout a month which is now... hes doing all the same weight as me, some areas more, and i havent gone up at all, which then i realized i havent been gainging weight, and i didnt take my pills, eating, gainging weight/ creatine seriously for a while now and im hoping thats part of the reason why ive been stomped

im getting back on track though :)

I used to follow the harrison benedict equation and realized that just wasnt enough calories. thauncles right you should prob hit around 3000 but if you find thats not enough just keep eating. Also keep your carb intake high, some wont agree that carbs should be more than 50% of your diet especially when bulking. dont get me wrong though keep your protein high as well and def throw in some essential fats

I'm apparently supposed to eat 2300 a day to stay the same weight. Problem is, at that amount of calories, even with cardio, I get fat!

Your 180lbs and you get fat on 2300? Do you go to the gym?

Chub, I train 6 days a week. My body chemistry isnt great, I have low test levels and have to have that supplemented with Testogel. I used to be 141kg, I'm now 81. So yes, I go to the gym.
