It all depends on the sources of protein you pick. If you stay with fish, chicken breast, turkey breasts and lean cuts of beef and pork then most of the calories are coming from protein not fat.The High Risks of High Protein Diets
By Karen Kupinski, R.D., contributing writer to healthatoz
1. High Protein diets are high in fat, and, therefore, can increase the risk of heart disease. Meat, eggs, and dairy products contain saturated fats, and eating too much of them can raise artery-clogging cholesterol levels in the blood, a known risk factor for heart disease.
More importantly, in some research it is being that that cholesterol levels may not be the true indicator for heart disease. Have you ever known anyone who had a heart attack and their cholesterol levels were below 180? I have probably heard of many such people. It's not direct evidence but it does make you wonder if they got this one right.
There is also a question on if cholesterol from things like eggs actually survives the gut. There's a reason you can't just swallow testosterone and get results, perhaps cholesterol is the same way.
