Hmm, never seen that before.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume the opportunity doesn't come around often.
Yep, it is a unique experience. I would do it, but I am ineligible due to my medical board. Bums me out.

Scott, you know my feelings on scary guy badges. I see a problem both ways though. The bullshlt "I'm a marine" response when you ask someone what they do is old. Good job bro, you passed your MEPS physical and scored above a 30 on the ASVAB, now what have you DONE? Since you guys generally don't wear anything on your utilities, it's hard to tell who's who (with the exception of those pretty gold jump wings). I normally don't wear anything on my daily driver uniforms, but when I choose to, you can see that I'm somewhat seasoned and didn't spend the last decade getting my stories from CNN. The downside to badges is that people chase the badge rather than cherishing the skills that came with it.
Lol, I know how you roll Davearino, we share the same feelings. And as for the "Im a Marine" response, youre damn right, it doesnt mean sh*t. I mean lets get real, how many Marines have you ever met that were worth their salt? Not many, and Ive deployed with or trained with thousands, and I could count on my fingers and toes the ones I really thought were shining examples of what I feel a Marine should be. And we both know I scored way higher than an a 30 man, but I get it

I need to stop browsing on the app. I don't know who is repping who at this point. I'll get some computer time in soon to see the latest and greatest. I agree, luke is a fine pic, even if he's borderline gay.

Seamen, airmen, marines, soldiers, coasties...all societal misfits for the most part. Gotta love em though.

Youre killing me man. I just ran for the first time in over 4-5 months. One and a half miles in 15:44

I recovered just fine but my calves were cramping up when I got out of the car...

Only thing I lost was my guts. No biggie, just means that I tried hard enough. Shlt is more of a challenge than I expected.

Running sucks. That's why I do it fast...to get it over with. I'm sure you'll get back down in time as long as you continue doing it. If I go a long time without running, my knees start to ache and feel wonky.

Thanks, the runs and rucks will be my of my own doing. Anything that says xfit will be prescribed WODs. I'm gonna follow their programming to get a fair assessment of it and see how it works for me. I came into it thinking negatively, like a lot of people on here do, but so far it's challenging and I like that. Hopefully I can prevent getting injured any further and get something good out of this.

Yeah I see this as good for him too. I know that as I get older the idea of just being in all around amazing shape is something I am looking at more than just being as big as possible. Of course I plan on a show in March but after that I am probably going to change the focus of my training to something more along these lines. I actually find some of those grueling time workouts more rewarding than going in and doing long rest periods for beach muscle. Don't get me wrong though I love working for beach muscle too but I think I have plenty of that and it isn't going to go away any time soon.

The elite guys/gals in Crossfit are beasts. The rest of them are average at a lot things and excellent at hurting themselves. A girl I know just competed in her first cross fit competition in Albuquerque, and she said her competitors form was scary. She thought for sure someone was going to seriously injure themselves.

Para, in your case you should totally try it as you'd excel at it and maybe teach someone something along the way.

cannot the same be said for many old-fashioned "bb'ers" tho?
how many guys do you see hurting themselves from slinging weights around that they simply have no business handling to begin with?
and the elite guys as well are typically beasts

The difference being;

Crossfit it's being taught by a guy who got certified over a three day weekend. Crossfit is done usually in a Crossfit gym full of trainers who "coach" extremely poor form. They use too much weight, go to fast, don't make people maintain form, hell they don't even teach proper form.

Yes people get injured in the weight room all the time, but it's on their own accord not someone else's claiming to be an expert.

I read a stat that 1 out of 5 people will have a serious injury doing Crossfit.

I was taught proper form on the squat, dead, and clean, from a strength and conditioning coach when I played football in college. Mind you this coach has multiple degrees. Haw many Crossfit coaches teach the same technique and proper form?

lol apparently you do not know how many "personal trainers" are running around with cheesy certification picked up in similar fashion as you say here, who are being hired by local gyms as PTs -- these moron kids, fresh out of high school or college, who don't even know 2/3 of what exercises really exist, are clueless

in any event I see your point, either way it is very scary, all this wackiness done in the name of self-improvement, that is simply wheel-spinning wasting time (if not worse with injury)

I see yours as well.....

My personal goals don't really line up Crossfit so I don't do it. I've done it and got in a heated argument with the coach because he was trying to "correct" my form while doing power cleans. After a heated argument in front of a bunch of other people who probably assumed I was wrong I asked for him to show me and I literally wanted to beat his ass in that moment. His back was so bent backwards and the way he was swinging the weight was incredible. He then proceeded to tell me that just because I've power cleaned over 300lbs before that that doesn't mean I know anything about actually how to do the movement.

So yeah that's my story. Anyways back to the thread.

That is a solid pace, especially on a treadmill. I never could run as fast on a treadmill as I could on the road. I FUKKIN HATE TREADMILLS.
I can't stop looking at the time/distance and can't concentrate on anything but that. Makes for a long and boring cardio session

Xfit day ?

Warmup:
10 Burpees
Samson stretch
Groiners
Arm swings
Leg swings
Over and backs
Pass throughs
Probably some other shlt I forgot
Foam roll glutes, hams, calves, IT band, quads

El WODDO (Spanish for "the WOD")
"Helen meets Grace"

400m run
21 53lb KB swings (American, so above head)
12 pull-ups
3 circuits of this followed by...

30 clean and jerks @135lbs

Completed all in 13:21

Pretty fun time. Didn't puke today. Was a two person effort so if there were 21KB swings, I did 11 and Joe did 10 etc. We split the C&Js. Today is the first time I've ever done C&Js so I spent a good amount of time this morning watching tutorials. I like the movement and will continue to use it. 135 was a very manageable weight, and I feel like I could have done far more.

I hate the idea of American KB swings.

It just looks like a lot of force applied directly to the shoulder girdle.

Looks like an awful workout.

<----- Never doing 30 C+J. Ever. Not even with only the bar.

Without multi-quoting,

Yes, the elite level xfit athletes are beasts.
Yes, top level bbers are also beasts in their own right. The major difference for me is that if I were to look like, say, Jay Cutler, it would compromise a lot of my mobility and more than likely the endurance that I seek.

Don't worry PF, you'll catch up.

Thanks drew, I'm trying to stay fast. Only reason I use the treadmill is because I don't like running in cold rain, and I have an option.

Tbh, I don't see this as something that's gonna make me some skinny dude with no muscles that can just do kipping pull-ups for an hour straight. I'm getting DOMS so I know that's a sign of something happening.

In your case, though, it seems to be natural progression. Walking on stage at 175ish again doesn't seem to be in the cards. Packing on a ton of muscle is gonna slow anyone down (ask Barry Bonds). I think, though, if you continue to play tennis and partake in activities that require a decent level of mobility/agility, a lot of both can be spared. At what point, if any, are you going to decide that enough is enough?

very nice points
dunno when I will say enough is enough - I do intend to do an ebb & flow protocol tho any time while bulking ie cals up for X amount of time, cals down a bit for awhile, repeat
I cannot see just running a full-on bulk and add add add, would make me feel like blimp bigtime

well if I added 50lbs in say 8-10yrs or so, had time to get acclimated to the extra weight/size, I imagine I would be pretty flexible too

That's a good goal instead of 50lbs in ten days, like a lot of people seem to shoot for. Seems way more efficient to me to put it on at a slightly slower pace and adjust activity level accordingly in an attempt to maintain mobility (not referring to your recent addition of a 3rd grader to your weight. I understand that pre-cut you were close to 200lbs anyway so this isn't as drastic as it would seem in your current log).
Speaking of weight, 181 dry this morning. Feeling like a real lightweight at this point. It's fine though, as I don't have a target weight, just want to be stronger and faster for longer.

Warmup
200m run
Leg swings
Arm circles
Groiners
Over and backs
Samson stretch
20m high knees
20m buttkicks
20m crossovers

10 push-ups
10 sit-ups X3
200m run

Weighted pull-ups
3,3,3
25, 35, 45

7,5,3
45,35,35

WOD
4 rounds for time
21 double-unders (two turns of the jump rope on one jump
15 knees to elbows (hanging in pull-up position, bring knees to elbows)
9 24"box jumps

Completed in 10:04

Not proficient at double-unders so did ten each set and subbed the rest for 50 singles.
Subbed last two sets of knees to elbows for some sit-up thing on this contraption where your butt is on pads, ankles are locked in and you can lean back well beyond horizontal, it was just as challenging (shoulder was done with any hanging exercises).

that contraption is called a GHD sit up. Careful with how far back you go if you are new at them, you can hurt your back and actually really over exert your lower abdominals. (Trust me, it took me a while of mobility work to get comfortable with these, but love em now). Use it to stretch when u are in the gym, that'll help. Good time on the wod tho!
