Magic Body Weight

Is there an optimum or maybe minimum body weight that you should have before trying to bench heavier weights? In my case, I just got to 315 -- next plate is 405 -- I REALLY want this plate :). Its probably a year or two away, but it seems to me that the more mass you have on your body, the less likely you are to get injured.

My paranoia comes from four 'thin' guys I know (less than 200 lbs), that even though they are strong, still got injured when they approaced 300 lbs. Now that I'm at 315, do I need to add mass to my frame first, or just keep going?

Is this hogwash, or make sense?
