Hydrolyzed Whey bad?

I remember reading somewhere that hydrolyzed whey protein is allegedly bad for you. Something about it negatively effecting your digestive system because it's partially pre-digested and as a result, possibly denatured?...

Does anyone have any further information on this topic? I'm looking to pick up a large quantity of protein powder (25+ pounds). And I want to make sure I'm getting the best for my money...

everything that i have read shows WPH to be far superior than WPI...

Eh, i guess it doesn't really matter. I was looking at some bulk protein. It seems like they're mainly WPC with a small addition of WPI and HWP....

The WPC is 23g protein per 30g serving

The WPC/WPI is 24g protein per 30g serving

The WPC/WPI/HWP is also 24g protein per 30g serving...

whey isolates are predigested too. but pure hydrolized protein is expensive as hell. unless the price has come down i haven't checked in a while

Supplementation with a whey protein hydrolysate enhances recovery of
muscle force-generating capacity following eccentric exercise.
Buckley JD, Thomson RL, Coates AM, Howe PR, Denichilo MO, Rowney MK.

Australian Technology Network Centre for Metabolic Fitness and
Nutritional Physiology Research Centre, University of South Australia,
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

There is evidence that protein hydrolysates can speed tissue repair
following damage and may therefore be useful for accelerating recovery
from exercise induced muscle damage. The potential for a hydrolysate
(WPI(HD)) of whey protein isolate (WPI) to speed recovery following
eccentric exercise was evaluated by assessing effects on recovery of
peak isometric torque (PIT). In a double-blind randomised parallel
trial, 28 sedentary males had muscle soreness (MS), serum creatine
kinase (CK) activity, plasma TNFalpha, and PIT assessed at baseline
and after 100 maximal eccentric contractions (ECC) of their knee
extensors. Participants then consumed 250ml of flavoured water (FW;
n=11), or FW containing 25g WPI (n=11) or 25g WPI(HD) (n=6) and the
assessments were repeated 1, 2, 6 and 24h later. PIT decreased
approximately 23% following ECC, remained suppressed in FW and WPI,
but recovered fully in WPI(HD) by 6h (P=0.006, treatmentxtime
interaction). MS increased following ECC (P<0.001 for time), and
remained elevated with no difference between groups (P=0.61). TNFalpha
and CK did not change (P>0.45). WPI(HD) may be a useful supplement for
assisting athletes to recover from fatiguing eccentric exercise.

If by bad you mean bad tasting, then yes, pure or near pure hydrolyzed protein tastes like burnt hair. I have a 90% hydro 10 micellar mix and its tough to choke down, and I can drink anything.

Got my mix from trueprotein.com. The mix is:

Whey Protein Isolate Ultra-Filtration - 15%
Hydrolyzed Casein - 25%
Hydrolyzed Whey Protein High Grade - 25%
Hydrolyzed Whey Isolate Ultra Grade - 25%
Micellar Casein (Instantized) - 10%

Grape flavor sweetened with stevia. I mix it with carbs and even sweeten it with extra crystal light and the taste almost makes me gag.

From what i know HWPI is denatured, it has more protein and the protein will be digested faster so definitely better for those uses especially postworkout. But it doesnt have all the subfractions that normal Whey / WPC would have especially glycomacropeptide and a couple of others. Due to the hydrolising process. Atleast thats what i have read.

I feel that I get enough protein subfractions and the like from my whole foods. Therefore I feel great using hydro in my post workout shakes. I do prefer micellar casein in my preworkout shakes too. For cost effectiveness though, I would say that isolates are more worth the cost. You can get isolates for like $9/lb on trueprotein and I think that's the best deal as far as cost/benefit ratio for whey.

A good mixture is always good. I beleive the whey concentrate, whey isolates, hydrolized whey are just a good mixture and concentrate you will see a lot on many whey tubs. One thing about O.N. Whey is the enzyme about it that allows your body to better absorb it. Dymatize has their own enzyme and I know the vitaminshoppe brand whey does too I think its called Aminogen.

I just go for the isolate. A poison called MSG is a by product of hydrolizing protein so I avoid it.

He's saying MSG is a poison. Hydrolyzed whey has no issues with that.
