What’s a easy to take supplement for better digestion?

I eat clean and try to stay away from foods that makes me bloated, I haven’t paid attention to it earlier but I thing I’m allergic to some basic stuff (like gluten and peanut butter). I also noticed I have been under eating for years and raised my cals to 3100 (my maintenance) and it’s a lot of food, especially if it’s cleans cals (to me it is).

Anything you guys can recommend to help with digestion?

First of all, I would HIGHLY recommend Ginger Root. It's dirt cheap and it greatly helps with upset stomach, stomach pains, GI tract issues and other things. Just make sure you take it with plenty of water. It can sometimes break open in your esophagus and it's pretty painful if that happens. There's also NOW Peppermint Gels. They're enteric coated so they open in your intestines, instead of your stomach, so it really gets to the root of any pain you might be having. It has ginger oil and fennel oil in there as well. Peppermint has been shown to stop intestinal spasms, so it can help alleviate pain from stomach issues.

Activated charcoal is another good supplement that really helps with bloating and gas. They give people activated charcoal in the ER when they've taken some kinds of poison, so it helps absorb a lot of negative stuff and it's really noticeable when you take it for gas/bloating and helps a lot. It's also another very cheap supplement.

As far as probiotics, I personally take Nature's Way Probiotic Pearls Complete. I like these because they're made in Japan and have a very good coating and use patented blends of probiotics from major well known labs and universities. When you buy any regular probiotic in a capsule, you have no idea if it's been refrigerated all the way from the factory to the warehouse to you and so by then, half the probiotics are already dead. But with the pearls, they use a proprietary coating system to ensure that the probiotics survive in any sort of environment. Your other best bet is just to eat some yogurt.

Finally, if you have any sort of acid reflux or acid indigestion, I've made up my own special blend for that. I use 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and 1/2 teaspoon potassium bicarbonate. That help keeps your salt/potassium levels balanced, and the potassium bicarbonate helps you burp, so that acid indigestion will be gone in seconds after you mix it in a 4oz cup of water and stir it until it's clear.

Hope that helps!

You could look into your diet and take out some of your commonly eaten foods, then slowly reintroducing them to see if they cause issues.

Product wise, I’ve enjoyed PES’ probiotic/digestive enzyme product quite a bit. Adding in Metamucil before bed seems to personally help me as well

A quick question on how you came to realize that you were allergic to gluten and peanut butter type things? Could you elaborate symptoms? Shitting LOL?

I have no proof that I am and if a do it’s mild but I always “feel” heavy after eating bread&peanut butter, it like a rock in my stomach, even if it’s just a small amount, so I’m not digesting it well.

You can get a blood test and determine what you're allergic too, I would highly recommend going to an allergy doctor and having them perform that back scratch test where they test all kinds of substances like different types of pollen, grass, ragweeds, dog hair, etc. and it will tell you what you're allergic too. Then they can perform a blood test to basically test for almost any kind of food you think you might be allergic to and it will come back and let you know if you're really allergic to it or not.

A peanut butter allergy is usually not something you just get GI symptoms from, it actually puts people into full anaphylactic shock and they have to use an EpiPen and go to the ER and be given Prednisone and other stuff because it's deadly.

I suspect the majority of people who think they are gluten sensitive are actually not. I was tested for gluten allergy and it came back negative. You could have Crohn's disease or IBS or something, so I would recommend talking with your doctor about it and he might send you to a GI specialist to determine what the problem is.

Yeah I don’t think I’m allergic to it like that, I just don’t digest it well. I actually got some gluten free bread yesterday and had that today with almond butter and that was fine, didn’t sit as heavy as regular bread with peanut butter would. Almond butter is easier for me to digest than peanut butter.

It’s just annoying that I eat clean, count my cals and still look bloated.

Good recommendation though, thanks!

All that stuff is perfectly fine to eat, and most of it is very healthy (not to mention expensive).

I'll tell you my own personal story real quick, so you can get an idea of some of the GI stuff that can happen. In the early 2000s my lower gut (around my belly) started hurting really badly. I had no idea what was going on and tried to self medicate, but eventually I started choking on some food and had to go the ER. They sent me to a specialist, and I had a endoscopy where they send a tube down your mouth with a camera attached to see what was going on. You're anesthesiatised through the whole thing, even for colonoscopies, so you don't feel a thing. But it turned out I had a hole in my esophagus that was caused by acid reflux/GERD. The pain in my belly was from what's called displaced pain, because your GI tract has weird pain receptors and can work in strange ways, so even though the pain should have been in my throat, it was down in my belly. Long story short, I was put on proton pump inhibitors to treat the GERD and I've been mostly good ever since.

There's a really good article on Life Extension where they go over the different conditions that can happen to the GI tract and they go over what the medical/pharmaceutical side does, and then they discuss the naturopathic/supplement side of it. Print it out and give it a read, it's well worth your time.

Here is the issue
Cut these out and replace the sources
If they are not digesting well then you solved your own problem.

Its most likely a food source causing the GI Distress and bloating.
If you did want a product -- EVOMUSE Gut Health is one of the best probiotics you can buy on the market
@dsade could get you a great deal on a 1 year supply

I also have a few posts here to help with sources and digestion. The word clean is too subjective and even if the only things you eat are so called “bro” or “clean” that could be a reason why you have issues with digestion there are other sources you could utilize to fix the underlying issue
