For those of us that have the androgenic andropecia gene, there is a safer, more intelligent, and creative way to take finasteride.
I've used finasteride on and off for four years now. It has caused an erection dysfunction issue a few times; however, many other times I had no issues and i've used it lets say sixty days in the past four years. That's not a lot so it can be used quite or very sparingly.
Recently I went though a interrupted sleep schedule, where id sleep maybe forty five minutes, wake up, stay awake for four hours, sleep for three hours, wake up, stay awake a few hours, then sleep for a few hours. In addition , some additional stress as well . To take get erection quality , cialis has been the drug that helps, and even then it can take twenty four hours to kick in, and side effects like blocked nasal passage and acid reflux, are common.
From my own observation and accidently experimentation , I find that when stressed high, sleep pattern broken, Finasteride can definitely exacerbate erections.
I do think finasteride at low doses as in 0.2-0.5 mgs is safe for most people and at that dose its shown to work as good as close to 1 mgs. I've done 1.25 mgs without issues plenty of times. I seem to be able to handle it more than some guys; however it could be because generally I manage my stress levels very well, and sleep very well. Moreover, if your sleep pattern is broken, high stress at the same time, Finasteride will only decline erection quality

Possibly genetics, some people seem to take this drug without side effects; however I do think the above three are the major causes
The solution:
Get on a regular sleep schedule and stay there.
If you are overly stressed , reduce or even eliminate temporary what is causing it.
When the above are in check, use a dose that is 0.5 mgs or less
