We had the lowest prices during Katrina in the US and now ours haven't declined as they have elsewhere.
I've only seen less than 2.30 in the last few days.
Same here we're stuck at $2.35

update.. you may have heard but the fed gov wants to up the gas tax to "meet with current inflation" as well as to tax those who drive hybrid cars for miles driven... this also leaves the states open to up their own tax on fuel...

this has NOT YET been approved but it just goes to give you somethig to think about... the gas tax would add roughly 8-10 cents per gal

Oddly enough the gas tax is one of the few things th government did that made any sense from a practical standpoint. I'm against it in principle of course, but if you're going to tax something anyway, a flat amount or percentage on top of the sale which then gets used for road maintenance is actually a reasonably practical idea. Those who drive the most use the most gas and pay a proportionally higher amount for the upkeep of the roads. I hate the idea in principle once more, but if someone absolutely must have government involvement I guess this isn't so off the mark.

yeah, if that's what the tax were actually used for it would be a great idea. It very well could be, but considering our governments knack for misappropriating funds Im sure some if it finds its way elsewhere.

:woohoo: Just to let any one in NJ to know... Corzine ( he is running the show) has just increased our gas tax over 10 cents per gal. this is after he promised not to touch the gas tax... i guess that is what you get for voting for a guy who looks either like a cheap extra in a 70's porn.. or the back up to the back up lumber jack on those ESPN 9 logging games

...Corzine acknowledged his position has shifted along with prices at the pump. "I vowed not to do it at $3 a gallon, that's for sure," he said. "When it was down at the levels we're in right now, I said I hadn't taken it off the table."
In July, Corzine initially said the state "must find alternatives" to increasing the gas tax. Two days later, under pressure from labor leaders who support it, he said it had to be on the table but should be a last resort.
His Republican rival, Douglas Forrester, hammered away at him on the issue as gas prices soared in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Then, during a radio debate on NJ 101.5 in October, Corzine said flatly: "There will be no gas tax hike in a Corzine administration, particularly after we've seen a $1.50 rise in the price of gasoline. I'm proposing we have a tax holiday."
But transportation advocates continued to warn of a crisis. Just this week, union lobbyists and public officials rallied at the Statehouse to press for increasing the 10.5-cents-per-gallon tax to replenish the transportation fund.
Senate Majority Leader Bernard Kenny (D-Hudson) said yesterday he will introduce a bill to do that in the new legislative session that begins next month....

Latest figures, August of 2005: "Nationwide Average Tax on Gasoline, 45.9 Cents Per Gallon -- Combination of federal and state taxes," let's just round it to 46 cents a gallon. "The average profit per gallon of gasoline by the oil companies is a dime. The oil companies are making ten cents, per gallon of gasoline sold, profit. State and federal governments get 46 cents a gallon."
HA HA HA!
Thats NOTHING!
In Sydney, the state and federal governments take MORE THAN 46c per LITER in tax!
Imagie paying upwards of a buck 75 in taxes for every gallon of fuel you buy.
Welcome to Sydney mate!
