Any of you guys gonna watch this 48hrs on steroids tomorrow night?

ladies and germs,

The media is going to do a story on steroids friday --- I just watched a preview of it and I got so fvcking pissed off. I was watching the mystery 48hrs last night and they showed a preview for friday's 48hrs show.

One of the coaches said "it's just like he got so angry that he started choking me." Granted, i don't think anyone would argue with the fact that high school kids should not be taking pharm enhancement drugs. However, the whole roid rage thing really gets fucking old.

it's the irresponsible 20% that ruin it for the responsible 80%.

Retards. They always do stories about the retards. Just once I'd like to see a story about how much effort goes into using them responsibly.

Ever notice they always show someone who doesn't even cycle them? They are on them 365 days a year, with no ancillaries either. Also notice they always tell you about teenagers. They never talk about adults. Teenagers have raging hormones and emotional problems to begin with, of course if you mess up that delicate balance they are going to be unstable. Retards.

Btw, since when is dianabol a horse steroid? I always thought it was developed by Ciba for use in humans right from the beginning.

Didn't even know it was on tonight, I may check it out. May be wrong but 24yrs of age isn't exactly the demographic age the 48hrs show shoots for huh Lakevillethor.

they showed a vial of steroids too in the sneek preview. The vial was of some steroid I have never heard of. i think it started with the letters "DEG"

Any thoughts? Maybe they just posted up a pic of a vial, knowing full well that no one would actually know the difference.

Well, almost no one.
You got to consider that this special isn't to highlight the positive effects of AAS, it never is. News is news, and the best kind of news is when its protraying "evil" things. :run:

Ironically, you hardly ever see news shows that talk about the the top killers of Americans-cigs, alcohol, and fast foods. that's the real sad part and injustice when it comes to journalism.

So, don't even watch these shows. they are for the ignorant avg joe's with very little education.

Well, I agree. The thing is that they are trying to say that kids should not be taking drugs or taking phs. I agree with this if this is the message they are trying to deliver.

But is it? To comment on what Lancelot said early, the people working on the story probably have zero knowledge on said topic, their just familiar with the dark side of it. Same can be said for the people who watch and believe it.

Qualification. You'll never see a show on the real killer of Americans and people all around the world: their own stupidity.

well, i too agree kids should not be doing any drugs and aas/ph's. But the shows always use some tragic story with kids to scare the general public and imply it's illegality to adults as well. they never show it's responsible and safe use by adults.

i've come to realize and to accept that most of America is stupid, ignorant, and close-minded. i just don't want that to trample on my rights and liberties because idiots can't protect themselves from their own stupidity. :hammer:

Friday Night 10:00 eastern CBS. I watched damn near the same show about a month ago on the Discovery channel I believe. About a high school kid who took steroids and committed suicide. The show I watched had very little about the actual science of steroids and much more of a biography of this kid. My mom also gave me an article from a STAR magazine (I believe), about the same kid. Basically the media is using this kid's post steroid depression and suicide as a main argument of why AAS/ PH are a danger to society. The story is definately a sad story that messed up a family, but when I watched the show, I was a little disappointed the show wasn't more scientific and didn't have more interviews with people in the know. This show tommorow night will probably be the same concept if not the same show. I'm gonna miss it, so someone update after the show airs please.

Just a couple comments on journalists:

1. They're not supposed to be experts on the stories--their job is to interview experts, people at the forefront of a controversy, etc., in an unbiased manner if possible. So how many steroid gurus go in for interviews on national television, when their very line of work is illegal? Same thing goes for recreational drugs...it's hard to find people that will extoll the benefits of illegal activity publicly.

2. They know alot more about drugs (recreational) than you think. Dan Rather has done a ton of LSD, among other things (he says so in his book and I have a friend who ran camera for his show with a ton of crazy stories). From my own experience at two top colleges and as a writer, I can promise you that journalists and writers tend to be personally very liberal, and most feel drugs should be legal (talking about non-addictive recreational drugs). The irony here is that this is actually conservative position, i.e. keeping government out of your business.

Now that we have the internet, the importance of network news is waning for the information junkie.

Here's some trivia-->guess what the fastest growing group of Viagra users is?

Give up?

18-44...use by this age group has exploded.

And guess how many members of the regulatory bodies have close financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry?

It was just reported by the Associated Press that although nearly 60% of the drug regulatory positions are held by people that are closely affiliated with drug companies, they felt there was no conflict of interest!!

Who says the goverment is against drugs?

You guys have it all wrong! Steroids are rampant and out of control, with dealers lurking around every corner and in schoolyards, killing and enslaving the youth of America, turning innocent children into fiendish criminal zombies!!! Oh wait, that's Pot...

ok one of the kids is in therapy because of steroid use. steroids will throw your hormones out of balance for a little while but to be in therapy after he stopped tells you there are more problems with the kid. you should return to normal after a couple of months off. I gotta agree juiceman. after seeing those kids on steriods makes me think they dont work.

Actually sucrose is the #1 killer in America. Refined sugar related illness (diabetis, heart disease, etc...) contributes to death in America more than cigs, alcohol and drugs combined! And we feed it to little children of all people, ususally as a reward!? Like Brodus said in a recent thread, the whole system is trashed to the core, and the media needs a good contaversial steroid story every now and again. That's all it is. I wish more people would actually kill themselves and stop just talking about killing themselves (a little reverse psychology for all you whiners out there) :whip:

Yea I just saw it. They profiled 3 teenaged boys who took steroids. 2 of the 3 committed suicide (and of course the steroids were to blame). The 3rd teenager was on steroids for over a yr, and once he got off em, was having withdrawal symptoms (roid-rage and suicidal depression). I agree....none of the 3 boys looked like they did any kind of weight training. The show was a complete "hatchet-job". Most of the GDP (generally dumb public) that watched this crap will now think of steroids as being far more dangerous than cocaine or heroine. Yea get on roids and become a raving lunatic who commits suicide. It was a complete one-sided story, anti steroid all the way and not a peep from the pro side. Of course 48 hrs offers the solution to this problem, more legislation, cracking down on internet sales, and MANDATORY drug testing of high school athletes. The show ended with some of the parents giving testimony before Congress (and Joe Biden).

In my opinion, they should present both sides of the case, but being in the public eye like those producers are, they almost have the responsibility to scare these idiot kids taking anabolic steroids about the bad things that can happen when you take them at a young age. Now, do I think these stories on TV will actually cause some dumb ass kid that's contemplating a cycle to reconsider and not take it? No.

Actually, I think I agree with Dr. D - just let these idiots kill themselves. Darwin didn't propose his "survival of the fittest" theory for nothin'......

It's kinda funny to me now. I can't deny that I seriously thought about killing myself at several points as a teen, I think a lot of kids do. Starting juice so young did make me more emotionally unstable too, it's true. I was a walking nightmare, complete defiance for authority w/ a constant hard-on, but I'm still here. Youth is a character building time, and like willieman noted, poor parenting is the #1 problem. If you've been given the proper preparation, you can make it through the crazy ****. Parents lash out when their kids **** up and start pointing the finger at everyone else so they can deny that they really killed their own kids. They just got lost and died from lack of direction. The media has been doing this type of 'roid bashing since the mid 80's, but steroids ain't the real problem in America. Lack of a father in the home is usually the root (it was for me)

It seems pretty similar to the one that FOX ran. My question is if the kids were taking any anti depressants prior to the suicide attempts. There is a class action law suit against Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and GlaxoSmithKline because a. d. can cause suicidal behavior. They are making them put warnings on the drugs now.

Hey I saw it too. I have a different question though. They said the kid was taking Dianabol. That is a methylated steroid, and he took it for over a year!. I don't really think these kids knew what they were doing, and most likely did not use liver protection. So why all the encouragement on message board to take liver protection with all the new methyl hormones (M4OHN,MDIEN,M1T)?. I myself, would rather be safe than sorry, but seeing stuff like that makes me think, does it really make a difference?. The kid that is still alive was taking dianabol for 15 months straight I think it was?...This is obviously not safe, but it the story didn't mention if he had any permanent liver damage!.

Dianabol is an anti-depressant. It increases dopaminergic activity in the brain which is strongly connected to reward. Therefore, in unstable or compulsive people, it can be addictive. So when you finally quit using it or run out 15 months later, your upregulated dopaminergic system goes into shock and you can become quite depressed. Like I said earlier, I did Dbol only cycles as a kid and got crazy on the **** too.

About the liver, unless you have some other underlying issue, methyls are not that bad. Everyone says they are, but they are usually just repeating what they have been taught. Somebody watched one of these stupid ass shows and got scared and told everybody that methyls will kill your liver! Now everyone runs around scared of methyls repeating that same stupid **** because of something someone said years ago that was way over exaggerated to begin with. Don't fall for that ****, that's what this whole thread is about! It's media scare tactics. If you are otherwise healthy, you would have to get really careless with really high doses for a long long time for methyls to truely hurt you. Trust me, I'm a dr. :D

Here is the email that I sent 48 hours -- i am sure I wasted my time but:

Dear 48 hours,

As a degreed engineer and a professional witness, we are taught, as are journalists, to let the facts present themselves objectively before forming an opinion. Journalism, as it is defined in Webster’s dictionary is “writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation “ --- it is obvious that you have forgotten.

CBS’ 48-hour broadcast on steroids, which aired on 8/6/2004, was the worst piece of journalism I have ever witnessed. To be honest, I am a fan of your show but sincerely call in to question my oath when I view pieces of this nature. First and foremost, to base an opinion of the “dangers of steroids on a kid who took them for 1.5 years continually is probably the biggest mistake that was made. Steroids are made to be cycled --- anyone who has internet access, two hands to type with, has heard the term “google, and 0.5 minutes of free time can tell you that – sadly this point was never illustrated. Secondly, teenage boys are emotional creatures without the need of pharmaceutical enhancing drugs --- how could an objective individual even try to claim that steroids are 100% at fault for these deaths --- people of all ages commit suicide daily.

I could go into a piece by piece breakdown of exactly, scientifically, everything you said that was incorrect in this story. However, this tedious task would take weeks. The short of it is that there is a growing trend in America to blame everyone else for the problems that they have. While there is little doubt that kids committing suicide is a sad state of affairs, pieces of fiction like this just fuel this fire. Even if you could prove that steroids were dangerous, no one forced these kids to take steroids; they made that decision entirely on their own.

Next time you decide to air a piece on pharmaceutical enhancement, or anything to do with science, please give me call --- I will get you up to speed with the fundamental knowledge required to be objective.

Regards,

Andrew John Thoresen, EE
