Good point about Moose.

Yea anyone who doesn't recognize that Rivera is the best doesn't know baseball IMO. I can't even begin to explain how good his stuff is.

I dont know about Jaba, he doesn't have command of 3 good pitches, which you need to be a great starter. But given his age this is somthing that is doable. I think they should put him in the rotation until Rivera is done then pass the torch. Escpecially with all the pitching injures they have had this year Jaba needs to be in the rotation. But Jaba would be a dominant closer no doubt.
I have had arguments with baseball fans, who claim rivera is good but not great. makes me laugh every time.:toofunny:

in terms of joba, I think with his fastball, the leagues premier slider and his good curve he will be set. I wanted him as the closer, but they seem to tthink of him as a starter, and I am amazed at how well he has done in that role.

Other than the red sox and rangers he's pitch'd against BAD teams, and NL teams so they're even worse, lol.

San Diego 36-55
Pittsburgh 42-47
Huston 41-50
KC 41-50

Sorry I just think he's way over rated as a starter and think he should stick to the pen, nothing against him he has no choice

Seeing as how he was fast tracked into a starting role, he's doing ok. Let's see how he does in his next few starts before we judge him. There was no way that he was gonna just jump out of the chute and be great but, he still could impact this season in a big way:cool:.

True but that gets back to my point of being able to throw 3 good pitches for strikes. After just 1 AB a hitter has a pretty good idea of what someone brings to the table and thats why starters have 3-4 pitches where relievers have 2 usually. See in the summer I usually plat against guys I've played with or against for the past 2-3 years. I own most of them because they have 2 pitches they can throw for strikes and after having close to 20AB's against them they're not effective. Get what I'm saying? 2 guys that come to mind I'm like 3-11 or something like that because even though I know what they have they have 3 pitches they can come at me with. This is how things work in MLB too.

As a starter I think he'd be about a .500 guy maybe like a 12-10 guy or something like that but as a closer he's getting 45+ saves a year.

Reading my post about Jaba it looks like I think he's garbage but I really don't. I think he's a good pitcher. I just don't like all this hype he's getting.

he is certainly over hyped, I mean hell its the yankees for goodness sakes. I think he will be a very solid #2 when all is said and done, and he has 3 solid pitches. Who knows, with Rivera, maybe he learns a cutter?

I dont even want to think about that .

98-101 with a cutter that would probably run 95-97 no thanks. He throws a slider now, i believe, so the transition to a cutter would be real easy.
that slider is downright nasty. good hitters look terrible up there against it

Oh and yea he does have 3 good pitches, He just can't throw all of them for strikes when he wants to :D
thats a very fair point. in fact, watching him on Sunday I believe, I kept saying its ok to throw strikes and get pop outs at 1-0 or 0-1 instead of always looking for a strike out. He has all the talent in the world, and as he matures will learn to pitch better

Posada is likely out for the season and you pick'd up Richie Sexson. You might as well kiss your play-off chnaces bye-bye :D
Richie Sexon is a lefty destroyer. He'll fit in perfectly (especially since hes getting paid the league minimum of 180,000) as a lefty pitcher fill in as well as those days as giambi's days off or dh him.

Jorge is a big lost with this bat, but Molina is a caught stealing Army of 1. The biggest concern going into this year, pitching, is looking solid from the Vets (hopefully Joba can really stand strong in the clutch in the must do days coming up).

With TB starting to show their young age and "true colors" the Wild card is looking tight, and the Sox's aren't playing amazing baseball (from both injuries, and Manny being Manny).

I like our chances a lot. Go Yanks!

yea he did that this year with one of the worst teams in baseball. He'll crumble under pressure....like he has every year since coming to the majors.

Molina is solid behind the plate, one of the better in the show, but his bat..........well it's def no Posada.

Ya his bat is a joke compared to Jorge (but than again Jorge hasn't been able to show this year that 2007 wasn't an absurd fluke). Potentially the biggest loss will be if Hideki is done for the season. He would be a hard bat to fill, although Robbie is looking like he is finally getting his ass into gear.

Manny is, and always will be the ultimate yankee killer. He absolutely OWNS the yanks when playing them over his career in both cleveland and boston. I love it. ;)

Don't underestimate the sox. We've been playing without ortiz for quite some time. Our offense (which is already on of the best in baseball) gets a HUGE boost with papi back.

I agree, Manny is the killer, however from year to year you never know that you will get. Hell look at Sidney Ponson, that is a prime example.

Regarding Sexson, I think at league minimum with some decent pop and good D, he is worth it. He wont win a championship for anyone, but I dont think he will derail the yanks

Also, you cannot underestimate the Sox, they are the champs till someone knocks them off. I still say if they play solid the division is theirs, and I think the Rays will be distant 3rd as the year closes. The yanks will get the wild card, and then lets see. If Moose continues to pitch well, and Joba still hasnt given up more than 3 runs in a start, we are in good shape. Pettite will still give you a solid start 65% of the time, and then you start to fill in from there.

Can't argue with what Manny has done against the Yanks, he truly steps his game up to an absurd level when hes playing us. Hmm runner on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and were up by 1? Yea first base is open, you walk him Joe (sorry still harboring intense emotions from that game earlier on ahah)

Papi has been out a long time, I am anxiously awaiting to see if it helps him with the added rest (since the "Jet Lag" had him at like a .097 ba in the beginning of the season).

I want Wang back. :(

But John, I do agree that the Soxs are a very talented team. Talented enough to get to the ALCS.... where the next picture will be the front of the NY Post shortly there after:

god I love sports rivalries. :D

Oh and dude, my Broncos at your Patriots October 20th. I am going to get a hold of some tickets, drive up, and rock my Cutler jersey! Can't wait.

26 WSC is all that need ever be said. Sorry.

RedSox are a great team for the last several years. The Yankees are a dynasty in every sense of the word. If the Yankees never make it again it will take until most of you have grandchildren before the RedSox can come close to the achievement of the Yankees.

But don't be discouraged. "There's a chance!"

I firmly believe that come the end of the season, we'll have a lot to talk about however, I also think that the Rays aren't going anywhere and it will be a 3 team race. As much as Red Sox fans won't admit, their big boys are getting a little long in the tooth as well.

just announced that the yanks and pirates made a deal for Nady and Marte for 4 prospects.

good deal for the yanks, as they get a solid corner outfielder and a lefty specialist in the penn to help farnsworth get to mo.

A lot of folks were doubting that Joba would do much. MY thing was, he was pressed into a starting role in somewhat of an unorthodox fashion. He is now starting to feel comfortable in that role.
As an ex catcher that handled pitchers quite well, Joe Girardi obviously has a good feel for what would work. I'm still not sure why he loves Farnsworth so much but that's why he's where he is and I'm not.

Lester has pitched well, but also the yanks let him off the hook. Bases loaded and no outs? Not to take anything away from him, especially when Ponson is pitching batting practice out there.

It's official, Jorge Posada is out for the rest of the season. While that sucks, I tend to look at it as an opportunity for Molina to be a star. We may be losing Matsui as well but as we all know injurys are part of the deal. If Girardi handles this situation half as well as he is handling the pitching deal, we're gonna be fine.

good luck with that pudge is hit or miss. I've been watching him daily got the past 3 years. This season he's been K'd a lot. Maybe the change of scenery will do him good. Although he did get it done a few times when we really needed him.

We got Farnsworth. WTF!!! Win win for the yank's :FUfinger:

To me, it seemd like when everyone else was doing well or there were big hitters around him he said "ok I can just coast, they dont need me" then when they were down he'd usually come thru.

Having him behind the plate is fear enough in baserunners to try and run his arm ain't wait it was but you gotta respect it fo sho.

I hate farnsworth. I hated him with his 1st stint as a tiger and I will hate him again. Even if he does well (our bullpen is bad) I still think he's a bum.

I think Pudge will fit in well. It is a very good offensive team, so he wont be needed that much on that end. I agree, runners will fear him, even at his age now.

Yes.........Farnsworth is a bum!!!!!

BTW, how about the last 2 starts for Joba, the kid can pitch (better than we both thought)

Agreed Pudge is a great fit. A true veteran been there before catcher to handle the young pitchers. A great replacement to what Jorge was

Yea I was real impressed with his last outting against the sox. He had all his stuff working. If he can do that every 5days kid will be nasty. With that offense if he can just do that once a month and get by in the other starts he'll be the man for many years.

Just hope he doesn't fizzle like Verlander did. He tops out at 95 now usually between 92-94 with good breaking stuff but a change he's 50/50 with at best. I would like to hope Verlander is still learning and this wont be going on next season but ya never know.

Yankees fill need, acquire Pudge | Yankees.com: News

He is a champion who may not be at his very best but I have seen pinstripes bring that out of people all over again.

He has post season experience and is a veteran catcher who is also still young. I've always like Pudge. They picked him up for the post season run. I love the second half trades. Its great to have influence AND money.

By the way the ALWC got real tight all of a sudden :)
