So I posted in a prayer thread about my situation but now I was hoping someone could maybe give insight in other aspects. So my fiance and I have a son who is 14 months old , he was born with no Small intestines and his survival rate is very low. Yesterday we found out he has some sort of disease on top of all his other complications. We constantly go to the doctor and it is always two to three hours away and twice a year we go to another children's hospital to follow up with his transplant waiting list. We are struggling financially and I go to the gym because it is the only thing that helps me cope, I work and go to school and my fiance is also in online classes. Financially we have been screwed and just can't keep up, but the degree I am seeking is to provide for a better life down the road for him and us. Does anyone have any advice on programs or places that could help us out ? Just kind of venting here and the community seems pretty nice. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Have you spoken with your schools financial aid office at all? Beyond general financial aid and FAFSA, they should have info on scholarships and stuff.

I work for a university and beyond that, I know chegg (book rental site) also has a nice scholarship database that you can utilize for tons of options, but in your particular case, I would think that your school would be more inclined to help/know of some good local scholarship opportunities that would help.

Yes bud I have and I get 40% of my GI Bill which helps cover a handful of bills and my job , hours are cut, the FAFSA return always keeps us positive for a bit but we have so many mishaps and unplanned trips to hospitals that always drain us.

I'm glad you're at least already taking advantage of those -- that's good. And if the GI bill is yours and not a family member's, thank you for your service.

Have you spoken with many people in your school's VA or financial aid offices? I work at a regional campus, so it's a bit different for me, but when I was at the university I had been prior to this, we had a specific department whose sole job was this stuff. So they would know of all sorts of local scholarships in addition to the big ones. And a lot of those are set up where someone essentially just gets to pick a deserving student so long as they qualify based on the general criteria. Sounds to me like you should definitely have some leverage in landing some of those.

Yes I have and it is my GI Bill thank you. The sad thing is they aren't the most helpful been trying and staying on top of things since his birth and not a whole lot of info or dedication to their jobs IMO. They kind of half ass everything.
