I have to disagree about the arrogance of Philly fans. I have had people come up to my 6.5 year old daughter wearing her Derek Jeter shirt telling her they planned to burn it. She is 6 1/2 for gods sake.
Thats not arrogance, thats idiocy...and I don't think you want to compare that because then we will start pulling up videos showing how stupid some people can get on both sides. Like that wouldn't happen if you were a Phillies shirt in the Bronx? They would probably have ripped it off and taken your wallet at the same time.

he Philly media believed their own hype (and NY does too btw). On one station I heard "there is nothing the Yankees have to offer to this series". You want to be paranoid of losing, thats fine, however it clouds their judgement and by definition it is arrogance.
Thats not arrognace, its stupidity and it runs rampant in both.

Arrogance is believing baseball revolves around NY regardless of what they do.

My point about the ratings is this: the Yankees are kind of like Howard Stern (big fan btw) whether you like him or not, people want to see what he does. Same with the yankees.
Not really.....Its arrogance to think people actually care that much about the Yankees. They simply don't, unless they are fans.

Comparing ratings of a city that has 13 million people in the metropolitan area compared to a city that has 340,000 people (Tampa) just shows how critical thinking is substituted by arrogance in the Yankee world.

I guess winning breeds a certain so called arrogance and the Yankees have won more than anyone else and their management and fans expect to win every year. The Yankees and George Stienbrenner took advantage of a door that was opened by the Oakland A's in the early 70's. Every other team had the opportunity to do the same, lack of proper management is the reason why other teams have not been able to keep up. You want to hate the Yankees, join the list and every few years we will continue to have a reign of terror and draw at home and on the road and frustrate the hell out of you.

Lack of management has nothing to do with it. The Yankees, and their fan base just by numbers alone produces 10x the revenue of a smaller market. A city with 10 million will produce much more in terms of merchandising alone then a team who represents a city of 1 million. Its just basic math.

Its your arrogance that thinks other people actually care about them. The only reason that they do is because of the the embarrassment of riches you have simply because you represent the financial heart of the world. If you actually had to manage your money, you be just like the Pirates...or the Reds, or every other small market team that lacks the population to create the revenue needed to compete with a team that spends 500 million dollars on 3 players. To deny that advantage simply means you have lost all objective thought in Yankee land. Everyone knows it....except Yankee fans.

Should I sign Sabathia or not..should I sign Texeira or not..Yeah...real tough management decisions. If you didn't have your collosal purse, you wouldn't manage yourself out of paper bag.

You want to hate the Yankees, join the list and every few years we will continue to have a reign of terror and draw at home and on the road and frustrate the hell out of you.
Statements like that are sort of...sad. If you actually believe that, I feel sorry for you. Draw at home? You couldn't even sell out early in the year. You couldn't even sell out your luxury boxes. Think you might want to check your facts.

"Through the first 29 games in the Bronx, the Yankees have had only one sellout in their new $1.5 billion palace, all the way back on Opening Day."

You didn't even sellout Game 1 of the ALCS. Pathetic.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-yankeesstadium101609&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Come on Yankee fans....go to your games :D

"The Phillies' last 11 home games have been sellouts. Overall, there have been 37 sellouts in 56 games this season."

....at one tenth the population. Sad Yankee fans...sad!

Actually, that's not true at all. All over the city, you see TONS of Dominicans wearing Red Sox gear and people wearing Phillies gear and it's all good. I've often commented how that **** wouldn't fly in Ma. or Pa. Maybe in the stadium during a series some people would give you crap but you probably wouldn't have to worry about your safety. It's not like you'd think it would be. Maybe it's because we're used to tourists?

Every one hates the Yankees. When you are at the top, people will allways hate you and want to see you fall. Just this simple fact alone (not only that NY has such a large population) will attract a whole lot more viewers. And not everyone in NY is a Yankee fan! Like bionic pointed out, there are alot of Red Sox fans! There is a large Dominican population in NY, and most of them including a big part of my family, are Red Sox fans. And to the point that just the fact that this thread was started makes "us" Yankee fans arrogant....ummm...yeah tell that to the Red Sox fans who have also started up threads about "their" team. Bottom line is that the Yankees have been a very winning franchise through out baseball history, and people are going to hate on you when you are at the top for a while.:whiner: Anywho, it's been a fun and exciting series thus far, and....GO YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

You haven't been at the top and you can't sell out your own stadium unless the red sox are there....and even then, its red sox fans filling the empty seats.

Sorry, the 10 million in the surrounding area have a bit more to do with ratings than your success...or lack thereof recently.

I know reality often doesn't make it into Yankee world.

Thats because they aren't real fans. I saw them leaving the World Series last year in the 8th inning to beat traffic. Its the WORLD SERIES!!!!

Then OTOH you have the guy that called Joe Benigno on WFAN stating the Yankees deserve it because its been "so long".

Both sides delusional :D
They really aren't. Those fukcing cowbells they have at their games alone says it all. I need to find a "Rays Suck" shirt to match my "Yankees Suck" shirt. :D

You're talking about this season in the new stadium and I'm talking about the last 48 years that I have been a fan. The fact is the Yankee emblem has been and will continue to be the most recognized and most sold sports item in the world. It took the Phillies finally winning a championship last year for the bandwagoners to jump aboard, who are you bull****ting, prior to that they were treated just like every other team in Philly. Living close to the area, I've seen more Red in the last year than a "Bloods" convention.

For the 1977, 1978 WSC I was 12 and 13. These were the years of my youth - innocence. I played little league (on a sandlot), wiffle ball and stick ball, emulating the Yankee heros of the day. I made it to "second and third base" during those summers.

Munson, Chamblis, Randolph, Dent, Nettles, White, Rivers, Jackson. These are legendary players and moments in ALL of baseball.

Movies like the Bronx is Burning and Summer of Sam were made around that backdrop. Not to metion many classic movies about Yankees and or the Yankee backdrop were made over the years.

Meatloaf - "Paradise by the dashboard light".

The 1998, 1999, 2000 WSC I was 33, 34 and 35. They were the venue for massive alcoholic alcohol consumption. My innocense was gone. The world was a mean, cold and hard place. Life was hard and I was a drunk. Having September and October baseball gave me an event around which to justify my excessive alcohol consumption. Good and bad times were had.

Fast forward to 2009 and or the last 3 or 4 years of baseball. I don't ****ing care! It's ****ing entertainment. Nothing more. Mickey Mantle don't give a **** about me. The Phillie Fanatic don't give a **** about you.

Anything and everything Yankees always dissolves and declines into money, corporate management, market, media, merchandise, free agents, salary caps and all other kinds of bull****. It's a ****ing baseball game that is of no weight to my life whatsoever. Turning it into an argument of that nature bores the **** out of me and makes me sad, for you and for me.

Arrogant? I'm not arrogant. I'm grateful my team is a winner. If "26 Time World Series Champion New York Yankees" pisses you off then the next thread title of "27 Time World Series Champion New York Yankees" is really going to burn your ass. :)

The Phillies have handed the Yankees their ass in all of their wins. It is a lot of fun to watch great baseball - win or lose. The Phillieas are a great team. I called it Yankees in 6...it's your move jerky!

In the mean time, lighten the **** up you cheese-steak-eating-phillie-fanatic-cry-baby. :D You're the defending-world-series-champions. Act like it and prove it tonight. :)

See you on the field in the Bronx.

Bull**** is what you've been spewing out of your arrogant pinstripe cornhole.

I will quote an anonymous friend who expressed his view very eloquently:

"WTF... your an idiot if you believe that. The Yanks are in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM the most recognized sports team in the world. That right there is arrogance. Manchester United is the most recognized sports team in the world. Let me spell that out for you... besides a few countries here and there.. the rest of the world could give a **** less about AMERICA'S past time. Soccer is the most recognized sport, and Manchester United is perched on top of that pole."

I was 7 when the Phillies won the 1980's World Series. Other than the Sixers in 1983, its the only time I've ever seen a celebration in that city.

Fast forward to 1993 where I watched every game that season only to see Joe Carter end it in Game 6 off Mitch Williams.

I've seen the Flyers and the next one, Eric Lindros, get steamrolled by the red machine known as Detroit. No cup.

Sixers gets stomped by the Lakers....Eagles stomped by the Patriots....

Getzky over Hextall in 86.....Cunningham losing in the fog bowl in Chicago....

As with any Philly fan, there is nothing you can say that hurts more than what our teams have done to us already...lol.

Arrogance? Anything but...we have nothing to be arrogant about...we always lose!!!!

Angry? Hell yeah....go through the above and try not to be. What I don't get is why you are!

So when I hear a Yankee fan state its been "so long", I hear a spoiled, arrogant little brat who has it easy.

You have an embarrassment of riches in every way possible.....you don't need to talk yet you still do. Its the height of arrogance. It is what it is...everyone knows it....they deal with it, yet you guys deny it like it doesn't exist...

Lighten up? Hell, I'm already happy. Unlike you guys who will celebrate for maybe a month with a World Series win, this has eased 25 years of sports pain....I'll still be on a high 5 years from now. I still get pumped listening to HK (RIP) call it....

The Phillies are a young team..built through draft picks...its not a team with 500 million dollar contracts. Its a great baseball story...how it should be. They will be around for many years to come. I'm very happy :)

Its the first time in my life I could say my team are the defending champs. It feels good...yet it doesn't go to my head ;)

What I find troubling is otherwise rational intelligent people let it get to theirs. :D

Don't let the HATERZ piss on our parade. They hate us cuz they ain't us! And I think it's no coincidence that the team colors of the people that complain about salaries are COMMUNIST RED! HMMM! So when I hear a Yankee fan state its been "so long", I hear a spoiled, arrogant little brat who has it easy.
You didn't hear that from me. I've argued in Sox threads that in just my days on the planet I have witnessed more post season championships that some entire divisions. I'm more bored with it than spoiled I think.

You have an embarrassment of riches in every way possible.....you don't need to talk yet you still do. Its the height of arrogance. It is what it is...everyone knows it....they deal with it, yet you guys deny it like it doesn't exist...
The rich win and the winners are rich. Aside from a few mixed in between everyone has had to buy and spend to contend. The sports industry is out of control. NY has the money to be spend so they do. There was a time when we had one of, if not the best farm system in baseball. Does anyone have one today?

Lighten up? Hell, I'm already happy. Unlike you guys who will celebrate for maybe a month with a World Series win, this has eased 25 years of sports pain....I'll still be on a high 5 years from now. I still get pumped listening to HK (RIP) call it....

I told you before - they handed CC and Burnet their ass. You guys are damned good. Let it go to your head - but you're going to need to bring it to the field tonight to make it a keeper. Beat the Yankees - if you can. I'll buy the bagels and Yoohoo! :D

no, how you doing? it's been a good long year, started out rough and then after the all star game we turned it on. i don't even mind the haters today. i have for the most part kept my mouth shut all year knowing this day would come. besides you don't have to talk trash when you know you got game....i'll leave that to the cubs fans in this town i live in.
