TRT or Supplement?

I'm in my early 40's an recently got my test checked. Results said I was at 345. Is this normal for someone my age and has anyone gone on TRT at this level or should I just try the supplement route. Thanks for any help.

Honestly, it doesn't hurt to try the supplement route. I'd try Mtest for a couple months, then test. If needed, add additional stuff like Optimize T or Prototest.

A lot of people have made really good increases with things like M-Test and Optimize-T.

I think it makes sense to try the supplement route first.

Ok. I just didn't know if there was a level where a supplement just won't help anymore. I was told under 200 you should really be on TRT and wasn't sure with my level if I should just go on it now. For reference I did have it tested years ago and it was a little over 400 so it hasn't dropped all that much.

For what it's worth, I've used M-Test a few times and am currently using Optimize-T. I strongly prefer the Optimize-T. Just my experience.

M-Test is good stuff but really you should look at many other factors first, if you haven't already. Diet, sleep, physical activity all play a part. Including fish, eggs, and vegetables daily in your diet. Trying to get 7-8 hours of sleep if possible, for many it isn't just about going to bed earlier but if possible. And getting up and just moving around during the day, if you have a desk job this is very important. Throwing down a few pills is easier but some minor lifestyle changes can do wonders to help you look, feel, and perform better. If all that is in check then I'd go with M-Test.

Unless you actually want to be on TRT, then I would put that to the back of the list.

I'd address lifestyle and nutrition stuff first, if that's already in order then I'd start trying out the test boosters. If the test booster isn't helping you still don't have to jump to trt if you didn't want to.
Even before you go the TRT route, you could also try a restart with HCG and clomid or enclomphine. If you did a restart and 3-6 months down the road you had low T again, you would know that your unlikely to maintain testosterone levels without TRT and at that point your at your last resort.

Just wanted to share multiple options

To add to this, the person who fixes there sleep and other bad habits will probably get better results from the test boosters, or any supplements for that matter

It also comes down to how you feel. You may go on TRT and get your levels up to say 700 but not really feel any different. In fact, you may get fat cause your now dealing with higher estrogen etc... and may need to take an AI with it. All for nothing and shutting yourself down if you already "feel ok". Allot of good info above. If the things mentioned above can be tapped for more performance (i.e. diet, lowered stress, better sleep / recovery), then I would go at these things cause just raising test does allot less than most people think it will do. And lots of great supplements mentioned above coupled with other changes can have much more of an impact than adding test alone. That's if your not stellar already in these areas.

Good post. That was a big part of my thought process too with suggesting to try supplements first because not everyone feels better on trt and for some, it brings on more issues to deal with.

I personally would still want my testosterone to be on the mid to upper end for other reasons, but it's still a very good point. Im very pro TRT, but il also tell you that most of the people I know that go on trt don't really feel much different. The first few weeks they tell me they're feeling amazing which I think would be placebo that early, and within a few months they just say they feel normal but they don't feel like amazing or they had this expectation that wasn't met. I think a lot of people think when they go on trt they're going to feel like they're on steroids and you don't. Treating the numbers doesn't always treat the symptoms. Most common one is guys thinking they're going to start feeling youthful and energized in 18 years old again, most people don't get that though. That old tired feeling that they're dealing with is because they don't do anything and they sit around and they're out of shape lol, a little bit extra testosterone doesn't matter if you're still sitting around and not doing anything 😂.

And besides, It's a thousand times easier to try supplements then it is to try trt, cuz if you start doing that and then you decide you no longer want to trt, your levels are going to come back even lower than before you started

My only disagreement that seems to be ignored is guys are getting their testosterone numbers in the range of a 20 year old while they are 50. They are not asking bring my numbers to a normal 50 year old. Huge difference and yes it is much easier to lean up and add muscle with the numbers of a 20 year old. I have nothing against it just letting you know it does make it much easier.

I'm not arguing that, but, 50 years ago, a 50 year old man had higher testosterone then most of today's 20 year old men. The whole range they tell us is kinda foolish in the first place. Anything over 1100 or whatever number they pick reads high, but someone absolutely can have a natural testosterone level of 1400 or 1500.

@poison I believe has 1000+ test natural in his 50's.

Again I only comment because I did the TRT thing and for me it wasn't the answer but yes I looked much better while on but did feel better off. 🤣

This happens a lot with TRT. Unfortunately many doctors go with a cookie cutter approach and just add testosterone when HRT with a focus on optimization would be a 1000x better. Add DHEA, Pregnenalone, HCG, maybe a bit of T4, and GH along with Test. Take time to dial in the numbers using blood work for synergy and it would be very safe and effective. Just adding Test by itself is not always a good idea.

If you decide to try optimize t, I noticed i fealt a noticeable difference taking all 6 pills at night before bed. Better for me than split. My half ass reason is it works better with your natural cycle (higher t in the am)

Optimize T did irritate my prostate...prostate xt added you think is a good idea?

I’ve never heard of it doing that, but it could be a symptom of increasing testosterone levels. You could definitely try Prostate Support XT with it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I did order some Optimize T but also going to clean up the diet/lifestyle for the next 4 weeks before I start. I'm trying to get another blood test covered so hopefully if nothing changes, I have a pretty good baseline.

345 isn't that low compared to many men I know in there 40-50's. It really depends on what your peak was IMO. I went on at 185 and it certainly is no magic bullet. I have a buddy that if you looked at him, swear he's on trt and he tests out at 265. It really an individual thing.
