*SoilWork: "Stabbing The Drama"
Great return to form. Soaring choruses, kick ass riffs...a few more solos and these guys will have a perfect integration of their 'old' and 'new' sounds. IMO, best album yet.
*InFlames "Soundtrack To Your Escape"
When inflames went from the greatest melodic death metal band on earth to the Nu-metal overtones of their last album, my heart sank. "How could such a great band totally sell out like that!", I thought to myself. Well, as with Soilwork, these guys are back kickin' ass HARDCORE. Great integreation of the synthesizer on this disc, Anders' clean voice might take some getting used to, but this album rocks. Hard!
*James Labrie "Elements of Persuasion"
If you were ever a fan of Dream Theater (remember "Pull Me Under", "Lie" , etc) - this is album is nothing short of amazing. Best disc w/James' vocals since DT's Awake, IMO. Great production, kick ass melodies...Not death metal like the above two bands but incredible clean-vocals sung over totally kick ass tracks. If you haven't heard of him...James Labrie is the greatest 'clean tone' rock/metal vocalist this side of Geoff Tate.
I bought these CD's all at the same time and Ive been so overwhelmed with ass kickin' music that I dont know what to do with myself. InFlames and Soilwork are going to be at this year's Ozzfest, along with a TON of other phenomenal bands, so you know where Ill be this summer
