I've always liked the idea of turning the smaller bowl games into the beginning rounds of a playoff system, and the big name bowl games for the semi-finals and championship. That'd keep the corporate sponsorship to satisfy the $$$, and the rotating locations to help with local tourism. Best of all, we'd have a playoff system to determine the real national championship.

That would require a 16 team play-off system which the BCS proponents will tell you is too many teams, but we real fans would rather have 16 teams battle it out instead of letting a computer decide who plays for the championship.

IMO, USC, OU, and LSU are very deserving teams, I'll even throw Michigan in there because they won their conference, they only lost one game, and they beat at least 2 good teams like LSU, OU, and USC did, but I know many won't argue for Michigan because they didn't get too much attention.

That being said, I think USC & LSU should be playing the Sugar Bowl. OU didn't win their conference and when they lost they got trounced. At least USC and LSU didn't get embarrassed when they lost. It's not like USC tried to schedule a bunch of pansies either. Notre Dame was coming off a top 10 year. Auburn was the favorite in the SEC at the begining of the year.

Michigan lost 2x this year.

I think that 16 teams would be too many for a tournament. 8 would be perfect, and I would even settle for a 4 team mini-tournament.

It's kind of weird. Pretty much everyone agrees that LSU should be in the Sugar Bowl, yet a lot of people think SC should play them instead of OU. Well, OU is favored to win by 6 in spite of the fact that it is basically a home game for LSU (New Orleans).

The Superdome will be filled to capacity with LSU fans. It is only a 1hr drive from Baton Rouge to NO.
At LSU they are doing a lottery to see who will get tickets.

If LSU gets a lead in the game, it will be hard for OU to come back b/c it will be loud. I have been in the Superdome numerous times and it gets bad when it is loud.

Good game none the less. Give Stoops and Saban a month to prepare for a game and you know both teams will be ready. OU is going to come in fired up and pissed b/c of the loss to KS. White needs to be healthy b/c LSU is going to hit him alot.

Go Mount Union Purple Raiders!!! If the win one more they break the NCAA record for most consecutive wins (54 is the record which they set 96-99). They have won 108 of 109 games. I know I'm alumni and am biased, but that is one of the most truly amazing things I have seen in college sports.

That really is impressive.

It is a small d3 liberal arts college located in Alliance, Ohio. Alliance is 15 minutes east of Canton (Pro Football Hall of Fame), 40 minutes NE of Akron and about 60 minutes NE of Cleveland. Their coach Larry Kehres has a record of 204-17-3 and is in his 18th year. My four years there, they almost went undefeated. they lost in the semifinals of my senior year in 99.

heisman

who do you guys think will take home the heisman?

i thought J. White was a shoe-in , but after the KSU debacle i think he left the door open for Fitzgerald.

My bad, scratch Michigan from the picture.

BTW, if they go to an 8 team play off (Most ideal IMO) there would still be arguments over who didn't get in. There could be a scenario where the winner of a major conference does not get in while the second place team from a major conference gets in.

If they go to a system where only conference champs get in than Notre Dame is gonna raise hell because they make a lot of money as an indepenent school and they don't wanna share with other schools.

As far as the Heisman goes, I'd still give it to Jason White. He's had an amazing year. I know he didn't play great against K-State, but almost every player has at least one subpar performance. Eli Manning may get a huge advantage from the many voters who don't know **** about football and vote based on hype. FYI, there's 982 voters who also happen to be writters, a lot of them basic knowledge on football at best.

You guys need to check out Mount Union on Sat. THey will be on ESPN 2 at 11:00 AM for the D3 National Title. They may be D3 but they are fun to watch. And trust me when I say they may start out slow but they come on strong!!!

Take a look at these figures if you are mad about the LSU vs. OU in the Sugar Bowl:

-Margin of victory:
---LSU outscored its opponents by 314 points.
---USC outscored its opponents by 281.

-Losses:
---Oklahoma lost to Kansas State 35-7 on a neutral field. Kansas State, playing a schedule rated No. 10 in the country, finished 11-3, 10th in the BCS and in the top 10 of each poll.
---LSU lost at home to Florida 19-7. Florida, against the fifth-toughest schedule in the country, finished 8-4, 15th in the BCS and No. 17 in each poll.
---USC lost at Cal 34-31 in three overtimes. Cal, against a weaker schedule than Kansas State or Florida played, finished 7-6 and unranked.

-Jan. Bowls: We know these are the bowls for the big boys.
---LSU played four games against teams in January bowls. Oklahoma played two.
---USC played none.

OU v. LSU v. USC

Really the point about the average margin of vistory or total points scored is a poor argument. Both teams pulled starters early in blow-outs so basically both teams could have scored more or less than they did.

The computer component of the BCS which trumped the human polls this year deemed that because LSU's OOC (Western Illinois , Louisiana Monroe , Arizona, and Louisiana Tech) had a better year than USC's (Auburn, BYU , Hawaii, ND) it gave them an edge in the SOS number and because USC/LSU had the same W-L record, that was the critical factor. So while IMO LSU did play a tougher bunch of big boys as it turned out than SC , common sense should tell you who scheduled tougher OOC, despite their W/L records. But really, should a game between Boise St. and Hawaii have any bearing on the nat'l title???

All three teams have a legitimate claim to play in the Sugar Bowl. I feel LSU/USC would be the strongest case, but it doesnt matter what I think. We'll have a split NC and hopefully a change in the system.

Nope, sorry my friend. I'd like to see a play-off myself but the only way there will be change is if we stop watching the BCS bowls and nobody atends these bowls ( most of which are laughable i.e. the Tire Bowl ). These will never happen though 'cause we like to watch Big time college football games and attend these Bowls.

Next big thing to keep an eye on is the "super conferences", there will be many schools swtiching conferences. We're just gonna have to wait and see if it's for better or worse
