Iraqi PM Allawi Attacked by Kerry; Bush and Repubs Respond

This is for all of you out there who are political geeks like myself. I personally was rather disturbed when Kerry, Edwards, and the Kerry-Edwards campaign all took aim at Iyad Allawi for coming to America to show his nations' gratitude for America's sacrifices. He spoke of such things as the successes of Iraq that are not displayed on the media (he mentioned that part about the media) and other things you don't hear too often.

Kerry responded Harshly only 30 minutes after Allawi's address.

Here is how Bush and others responded: (linK: Invalid Link Removed)

President Bush yesterday hammered Sen. John Kerry for disparaging Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, whom Mr. Bush described as a hero in need of America's help, not contempt.
"This brave man came to our country to talk about how he's risking his life for a free Iraq, which helps America, and Senator Kerry held a press conference to question Prime Minister Allawi's credibility," Mr. Bush told an audience in Janesville, Wis.
"You can't lead this country if your ally in Iraq feels like you question his credibility," he added. "The message ought to be to the Iraqi people: We support you."
Invalid Link Removed On Thursday, Mr. Kerry scoffed at assurances by the president and Mr. Allawi that Iraq would be able to hold elections in January. The Massachusetts Democrat also dismissed Mr. Allawi's optimistic speech to a joint session of Congress, which gave him a hero's welcome.
"The prime minister and the president are here obviously to put their best face on the policy," Mr. Kerry said in a press conference after Mr. Allawi's speech. "But the fact is that CIA estimates, the reporting, the ground operations and the troops all tell a different story."
Yesterday, an indignant Mr. Bush defended Mr. Allawi, reminding Americans that the former Iraqi exile had once been attacked by ax-wielding assassins sent by Saddam Hussein.
"He came to our country to thank the American people," the president said. "He came to our country to thank the moms and dads and husbands and wives of those who have sacrificed for his freedom and America's security."
He added: "And my opponent chose to criticize the prime minister of Iraq."
The president's rebuke did not faze Mr. Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards, who suggested that Mr. Allawi was merely parroting the president's lies.
"The best lesson for any fledgling democracy is that leaders should tell the truth, to always be straight with the people," Mr. Edwards said. "Prime Minister Allawi's trip to the United States was filled with all the wrong lessons, lessons from an administration that just can't seem to tell the truth when it comes to Iraq."
Vice President Dick Cheney, who spent yesterday campaigning in Louisiana, also defended Mr. Allawi.
"I was appalled at the complete lack of respect Senator Kerry showed for this man of courage when he rushed out to hold a press conference and attack the prime minister yesterday right after his speech," Mr. Cheney said.
"Iyad Allawi is our ally," he added. "John Kerry is trying to tear him down and to trash all the good that has been accomplished, and his words are destructive."
Mr. Cheney suggested the prime minister was referring to Mr. Kerry when he warned against pessimism during a joint press conference with Mr. Bush on Thursday.
"When political leaders sound the siren of defeatism in the face of terrorism, it only encourages more violence," Mr. Allawi said in the Rose Garden.
Senior Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart suggested Mr. Allawi was merely reciting talking points supplied by the president.
"The last thing you want to be seen as is a puppet of the United States, and you can almost see the hand underneath the shirt today moving the lips," he said after the Allawi-Bush press conference.
Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Republican, fired back yesterday from the floor of the Senate.
"You know what is really underneath the shirt of Prime Minister Allawi? Scars from an ax attack by Saddam's henchmen," he said. "And do you know what is underneath those scars? A brave and patriotic Iraqi heart, beholden to no one but the cause of a free Iraq."
He added: "When you undermine our principal ally in a war against terror and tyranny, you are undermining our cause."
White House spokesman Scott McClellan agreed.
He said sarcastically during a press briefing aboard Air Force One that "denigrating our allies is an interesting way to build coalitions," referring to Mr. Kerry's principal criticism of the conduct of the war in Iraq — that the administration did not put together a sufficient worldwide coalition.
"Senator Kerry questioned Prime Minister Allawi's integrity, a brave leader who is risking his life to bring freedom to the Iraqi people," he said.
"This is part of a pattern by Senator Kerry of showing contempt for our closest friends and allies," he added. "This is not the first time."
Last year, for example, Mr. Kerry called the nations that ousted Saddam Hussein — including Britain, Australia and Poland — "some trumped-up, so-called coalition of the bribed, the coerced, the bought and the extorted."
In March, Mr. Kerry diminished the importance of dozens of nations that were participating in the U.S.-led mission in Iraq.
"Those countries are really window dressing," he said.

oh my god i cannot believe that he did that.... did kerry actually think this would HELP his campaign which is already crashing and burning?!? oh my god; such disrespect...

My thoughts, exactly. ;)

the man has been talking for months & yet hasn't said a word (of content)
i watched the latest beheading the other night, it was even more gruesome than the berg one. something has to be done.

Kerry doesn't get it, anti-war liberals don't get it either
I thought they were the human rights people...?
If you aren't against terrorism, than you must be for it.

While the Iraqi people are trying to rebuild their homes and lives, you got a politician wishing they weren't free.
Lovely

Well, maybe they think to be human rights people to the bone, they have to be supportive of "terrorist rights" as well???

Thats another thing that bugs me.
Liberal argument
There is no such thing as 'evil'. Only 'unenlightened' or 'uneducated' persons.
Solution? Educate. Not kill.
Such BS

ROFL. Exactly my thoughts!

Now, I just wish they could explain to me how lack of education and lack of enlightenment can make some people murderer's while others become well-off happy people. Kinda voids the argument, IMHO.

In the liberal world the solution is to liberal educate persons - aka brainwash.

Did I just hear someone say public school???

I swear to anything that I had one of my middle school teachers defend communism in front of our class. He wasn't "quite" advocating it, but it was questionable.

I'll never forget that. That along with the line I read scrolling across the bottom of CNN's headline (whatever that scrolling area's called) after reports of Ronald Reagan's death: "Former B actor, Ronald Reagan, dies at 93."

Former B actor? Try former president who took Jimmy carter's socialist or even communist level taxation (as high as 76%) and unemployment of 11% and drove it down to 26% taxation and 5.4% unemployment.

What do the crazy libs have to say?? Well, Reagan killed millions of HIV victims and he drove our budget deficit to record highs...boo freggin' hoo! How did he kill millions of HIV victims? I've never understood that and almost every economist will agree that you've sometimes got to run high deficits to get the country moving again. Reagan was a great president! Former B actor? Grrr....I hate those f*ckers!

Hilter killed 15 million
Communism killed 150 million

Not playing a numbers game, but the truth is there

I am greatly looking forward to seeing Kerry go down in defeat in November AND vacating his senate seat here in Massachusetts as well............. can't wait. And the mere thought of his obnoxious wife Teresa being our first lady .......... ugh.

That lady cracks me the hell up! I think the thing that made me laugh the hardest was when she told a buch of black kids that she identifies herself as an african American. ROFLMAO. That was just too good.

Yes, you are correct. Killing seems like a much better first choice, no? :frustrate

You are using generalities for the strength of your argument, as this is not necessarily the opinion of all liberals that would be applied in every situation, but it sure as hell makes sense to me to try it first. This seems to be going back to the old, tired, and completely un-American thinking that started a few years ago that any criticism of the current administration's policies, attitudes, or actions is "unpatriotic" and borders on treason (thanks Coulter). I have witnessed where that got us and billions of dollars, around 1000 serviceman lives, increased anti-american sentiment worldwide, a new haven for terrorists that did not exist before, and a few publicly spewn beheadings later I am still not impressed. Dare I say I am rather displeased.

Funny, to me brainwashing would be to instill to the public that any thought against the current administrations' agenda is wrong. Talk about fucking ridiculously opposite.

I've never heard that talk against the current admin is wrong...I've only heard people whining and complaining when people disagree with their anti-admin views. Is it ok for those people to disagree with the administration but not ok for people to disagree with the leftists saying these things about the current admin?

I.E. Lib says "Bush is a war criminal and a facist." Con says "You're an unpatriotic idiot."

What's the problem there, those are two people voicing their opinions. Nobody is supressing anyone's opinion. There are no rules and regulations against speaking out, just good ol people disagreeing on things. They both sound stupid, IMHO, but neither is wrong for saying what they like. That's what is good (for now) about the US, we have that right.

Honesty though, brainwashing? My biggest complain about Bush and the admin is that they don't talk to the people! Through most of the 4 years you never saw his ass on TV telling us what's going on! How could they have brainwashed people?

One last thing...I honestly believe that if everyone looked back on their public schooling that they would remember some suspiciously leftist brainwashing going on. Not to mention any conservative thought I put out was met with anger from the teacher (not all of 'em, just most) and in some cases they'd ding your damn grades! (Well, atleast this applies in California.....oh and Massachusets ;))

To me, its just the left is dominated by conspiracy theories that are simply a matter of spectulation. "Bush Lied" for: Oil, fun, pride, political gain, insert slogan here.
Bush didn't lie. He may have gotten bad intel from 7 countries, the UN, and the CIA.
But lie? That doesn't fit.
It's only a lie when you know your lying.

When I refer to liberals, I am speaking of the far-left which dominates the democratic party today. Moderate democrats are non-existant in today's party.
Kerry , HClinton, Dean, Gore, the list goes on...

There is no room for pro-military democrats
There is no room for pro-life democrats
Where have these people gone?
Liberman is a big believer a national defense and he is told to keep he mouth shut.
The party is no longer moderate by any means

I agree, I will also say - they don't get their point across when they do speak out. Lately, they have been better.
Limbaugh is the biggest and best voice on the right - by far IMO.
