Doom 3

I love Doom 3 and battlefield 2 both for the PC of course. SOgone if you are having trouble installing the patches uninstall everything like the registry and everything then install it in safe mode even the patches it's the only way I got it to work also. Doom 3 gets real hard and I continue to try and push my way thro without cheats....must resist the temptation. Cheats just spoil the game anyhow. Takes the fun out of it. If you get a new system get a mobo that has PCI-E video slots. And 1 gig is a min for ram with BF2 imo.

Yeah i'm not that smart with computers :icon_lol: I installed battlefield but it won't start up, the screen goes black and then just returns to my desktop window.

ive never had good experiences with massive muiltiplayer online games, always crash, always slow, always a waste of money.

quake 4 was a good game though.

That looks like a great game.

Ever play CS, Pioneer?

Sogone2day if you're going to get a new PC, get an AMD. Go for the X2 3800+ if you can, and get 2Gb of RAM if you'll want to play games. Of course the video card can be as pricey as you want, but getting a single X1800GTO or somesuch and then upgrading to two of them would be a good option. Or go with the nVidia side, but I wouldn't know which model to suggest.

If you're going to wait until the autumn, then Intel might have something worthwhile. In the meantime, the X2 3800+ is very upgradeable, so you should be set for a good upgrade path.

yeah when it first came out, then the cheaters came, and all the general whores that plaque good games and make others not as good lose all intrest. basically what happened to me.

I hear you man, those were awful times. I'm just back from a few hours of CS:Source and cheaters and trolls were completely absent from the server I randomly chose. Dunno if that means anything about other servers, but FF was on and no trolls came to wreck the game...

It's just a HP PAVILION ZV5000

2.8ghz
kingston 640mb ram total
ati 9000igp
intel celeron R

I want to get a desktop but not sure which kind.

IGP= intergrated graphics

Your laptop shares your system memory and games can not get enough RAM to load so they crash. Even if they load they run like **** because of the latency from ram to gpu.

Sogone2day, Grunt has pointed you in the right direction... only thing I would change is if you are going to overclock get the Opteron 165 CPU.

This is why I just play console games. I can use computers, but when it comes to all the performance specs, no clue. By the way Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for the 360 is pretty addicting. Its my 1st time to play a BF game.

EEMain how do you think a dual Opteron system would compare to an X2 chip of equivalent speed?

The 165 I mentioned is a dual core Opti... Optis have 2x 1meg cache which only the 4400+ and above X2 does... Lower operating voltage... and generally come from better silicon.

The 4400 runs at 2.2ghz and costs $460 the 165($327) will run at least 2.4 at a lower voltage and 2.7 isn`t unheard of
with the right setup.

Running the same speed pure CPU numbers would be about equivalent.
It is the rest of the setup that would set one apart from another.
