Unanswered Can Glute Activation Be Used In Every Exercise? Research?

My genetic fitness level is rather average. Even with training, my core is weak, etc.

When I was doing "Insanity" today, I used my mind to contract my glutes in every exercise, from squats to pushup-jumps. I noticed that my core looked better after the workout than it normally does, and I move better.

Is there any truth in this?

Should I mentally contract my glutes on every single exercise, including running?

I know glutes are the biggest muscle in the body, generate a lot of power, and connect to the hamstrings, abdominals, etc. I know those that sit a lot are usually glute dormant.

Any actual research to investigate what I am saying?
