Anyone here own a Mac?

So who here upgraded to Leopard? I did and it rocks! Need an external hard drive so I can get time machine going. Otherwise the spaces feature rules for keeping my screen uncluttered. The stacks also rule, the only icon on my desktop is the one for my hard drive, and the "Mac OS X Install DVD", which rules because my windows pc's were ALWAYS cluttered. Totally worth the money if you haven't upgraded yet!

Yeah, I was running the last beta build of Leopard for a few weeks. I can agree and say that it is by far the best OS I've ever used, hands down. I like stacks, but I wish they left the option for me to drag a folder to the dock and retain the ability to right click on it for a list view rather than have a giant block of icons show up. I'm sure there is a kext file or plist I can edit to get that back though, I just need to dig through all of it and I haven't had time.

I did a clean install, not an upgrade (with the final version) and it is really really fast, much faster than Tiger and it's a damn Porsche 911 twin turbo compared to the Ford Taurus that is Vista.

i like leopard but i was one of the unlucky ones that found the first bug in it.for some reason after i upgraded to leopard the comp didnt reconize i had a airport card.after a few hours of research i found out i had to remove a tiger driver and all was well after that

Yeah, as with any major OS release, I clean installed it. I upgraded my Tiger install with the 559 beta and it had some issues that I would imagine were worked out.

I'm running Leopard right now. I'm running the "last beta"

So far I like it. I've got a few complaints, but its cool enough to keep me happy.

Oh, BTW, just an FYI in case all of you didn't know. Apple's customer service sucks if you're the technically inclined type who doesn't like losing their computer for weeks on end. HDD died (3-4 mo old) and to get a replacement is a huge hassle. I've got school, I can't deal with that crap.

So, I've got an upgraded HDD on the way and I'll get my replacement when I'm on break. As for now, I'm "borrowing" an HDD from best buy

Base rig: Macbook, 2.0GHz, 1GB DDR 667MHz RAM, 80GB 5400 RPM HDD, DVD/CD-RW

Upgraded rig: Mackbook, 2.0GHz, 2GB DDR 667MHz RAM, 200GB 7200 RPM HDD, CD-RW/DVD -R +DL (USB 2.0 external), 22" Widescreen 1680 x 1050 w/ 800:1 contrast & 5ms response - Not only does it look beautiful, its gonna fly!

If only they included a decent GPU. GMA 950 is crap for price. Hell, everything apple is over priced. That's why I bought the base model and used my school discout + free ipod to lower my base cost to about $750 and then do my own upgrades for an additional $300.

Yeah, the GMA 950 is horrible. Apple really needs to start putting respectable chipsets in their macbooks. Apparently the next graphics chip is going to be the X3100 so that should offer some minor improvements... although the drivers for it that were packaged with Leopard have already been used on a hackintosh and the benchmarks aren't very good, maybe they will improve by the time they roll out.

EDIT: Ok, I guess apple just rolled them out today. How's that for timing?

Damn, what a bummer. 4-5 months after I buy my comp a new version comes out that lets me max at 4GB RAM w/ an increased system bus from 667 to 800Mhz, and an upgraded (although not toooo much) video card.

:rasp:

hey guys i need a little assistance.i wanna update my imac g5 duo intel and the memory mac recommends shows up as notebook memory..does this seem right to you? 1GB 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMM

I'm a little confused about what machine you've got- intel? Core Duo? Core 2 Duo? what speed (don't know it absolutely matters, but the closer the match, the better)? Which screen size do you have?

Or, just go to Invalid Link Removed & pick your machine - looks like the same item to me, and yeah, that's a laptop stick, not a desktop. No worries, they work fine. Crucial's a great place to get memory BTW.

Yes, a first-day Leopard adopter. Brilliant stuff - there are always quibbles, anytime...still, brilliant stuff. No actual problems of any kind, tons of great newness to explore.

Intel iMac w/ notebook memory sounds right. They require 200 pin 667MHz RAM.

However, I think you need to clarify that it's an Intel mac and not a G5. The G5's have a PPC processor I believe and depending on the year they'll require different ram than an intel iMac.

Tell us what it says in (apple) -> About this Mac.

Also, where it says your operating system version, .e.g 10.4.2 etc., you can click on that twice and it'll show you your serial number. You can put that serial number into the support page at apple and pickup more info about your specific model iMac.

On a side note I just wanted to say that, even though I hate wireless, wireless n is pretty damn impressive. Transferring files right now over my network to my fileserver at a rate of 57.6Mbps. Pretty kickass.

Crucial is good, but way too expensive. You can find a better deal at Newegg.com.
