My view is that any external calories will slow or stop autophagy. Autophagy occurs specifically because of the combination of elevated cortisol and GH. I believe that autophagy is triggered by the following: Cortisol destroys damaged/diseased cells and tissues while the elevated GH protects...
No. All BCAAs stimulate insulin release, which is the absolute last thing you want to do while fasting.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, BCAA supplementation has been shown to be basically worthless in several studies.
It's partially true. PROLONGED DIETING can cause this maladaptation, this is now known as "The Biggest Loser Phenomena"
The human body was designed to do two (and only two) things with regard to optimal anabolism and catabolism and food intake:
1. Feast -- add muscle and bodyfat.
2. Famine --...
Lyle doesn't know nearly as much as he thinks he does. He is adamantly against prolonged fasting because "You'll lose all your muscle and wreck your metabolism."
You'll have to wait for the book. I can't give away all of my secrets for free...
I touched on it a bit in some replies in this thread. If you go back through and read my replies you'll find some valuable information on using fasting to facilitate new muscle growth.
You'll be fine fasting -- I don't think anything you do would push your muscles to lactate threshold. I did a three day bathroom/shower tear-out and re-tile while fasting, and while it wasn't exactly pleasant (my helper was eating almost constantly), I wasn't hindered in any way.
I'm presently writing a book which should be finished late this year or early next year which will cover *everything* I know on sports science and touching a bit on general health and longevity. I'll be writing under a pseudonym, given the chapters on PEDs and the non-traditional use of various...
You will be missed, brother.
PM me your email address and I'll send you a link to a brand new blog I'm putting up when it's ready, which I think you'll find interesting and informative. I'll not be providing a link to everyone, just those on here who I feel share a similar ability to think...
If done correctly, I know for a fact that it will. I’ve seen it dozens of times in dozens of athletes.
I don’t have a degree in exercise science, my degrees are in neuroscience and pharmacology/toxicology, so I approach training from a completely different point of view than traditional coaches...
No it's not, and research is bearing this out. There are studies conducted at USC showing that fasting is *much* more effective at killing tumors than the best chemotherapy drugs.
What do you think tumors consume for fuel? Glucose.
How long can cells that can only use glucose as fuel survive...
You can, human studies show that this is possible. It's just a slower process because insulin is obviously a major player in muscle growth.
Running a low cal targeted ketogenic diet with high-cal refeeds after lifting and you can gain muscle just as quickly as running a standard bulking diet...
Be very cautious with the alcohol. Your tolerance will be about 1/3 of what you're used to because of all the ketones, which bind to the same receptors as Valium.
It's not a disappointment. It would have been a disappointment if you quit before the end of day 3. After a 72 hour fast the entire immune system is regenerated and probably most/all tumors are destroyed in the process. In my book, anything more than 72 hours is just a bonus.
Well done!
A good bit of that is subcutaneous fluid loss. If you were to lift and get a pump I bet you’d find that your muscles would be just as full, but would look even better than they did pumped during your last arms day, because you’re leaner and dryer while still maintaining the same (or nearly so)...
Agreed, his fat loss is plainly apparent.
Muscle glycogen is spared during fasting. The primary cause of the “flat muscles” sometimes seen during fasting is intra and extracellular fluid loss due to low plasma electrolytes, primarily sodium.
I wouldn’t do anything that is going to stress your system (like ice baths) during fasting.
I am aware of studies on cold immersion and conversion of WAT to BAT.
The low body temp from fasting is really worst the first few days. After that temperature regulation catches up and I would bet...
