Leg extensions and leg curls are bad for the knees.

The "curling" motion isn't poor and if you had read the other posts you would see other ways to perform loaded knee flexion. The issues we have described are the fixed pattern in which it occurs, the distal loading and thus long lever arm and the technical errors used when performing machine...

Leg extensions and leg curls are bad for the knees.

As with most caution regarding an exercise, it is founded in some truth. The distal loading, as NYiron expounded on, combined with the fixed movement pattern can cause issues. I, personally, don't include either and think there are equal or better exercises for both hypertrophy and athletic...

    Shoulder Prehab Advice

I'm sure Zir Red has a ton of stuff on his youtube page regarding shoulder health so look into that but I, personally, incorporate various pull aparts and "dislocations" as a part of my upper body warm ups and also use face pulls and other work for scap retractors at the end of my sessions

Bench 310 Squat 365 Deadlift 485 so total roughly 1160 I weigh 187 and i've been training for years as I played football throughout high school and 2 years in college but have really only spent the last 12 months or so training with the idea of competing

Strength off the chest- bench press

Geared more towards the PL crew around here but any input appreciated. What are your guys' favorite ways to strengthen off the chest in the bench press? The top 3/4 of my press moves so quickly even above 90-95% but I struggle with those same % off the chest. More DB work, heavy paused presses...

    Weight gain help

I also don't believe there's any evidence that more will help. Once you reach saturation levels, more is simply a waste. 5 g is pretty widely regarded as the standard maintenance dose to reach and keep saturation.

    Overrated movements

"So there was a heated discussion between some people at the gym last night. They were discussing movements that were overated. Movements that everyone does but aren't all that good, effective, or just hard to do properly. So I was wondering what everyones opinons are on exercises that may be...

    Overrated movements

I'll argue for cleans all day, everyday. It's not for everyone but that's because of coordination and technique, not because it isn't effective

    Does OVER training exist???

The whole "no ovettraining just under eating" bothers me as much as the incorrect assumption of overtraining. As you stated, it goes so much farther than the simplistic view of your muscles and feeding them.

How much should i be lifting

I've always considered 1.5x bw to be respectable and 2+x bw to be impressive

my upper lower body split ( while cutting) what u think?

Brief thoughts: More pulling (specifically horizontal pulling. Your lats actually serve as internal rotators so they don't do as much to balance your pressing and pulling) less machines and more free weights and I think there are much better exercises for the lower body than extensions and leg...

    Muscle Rest Time

Phelps is also an elite athlete who, over years, has become acclimated to that workload and stimulus. He gradually built up the work capacity needed for that. Adding calories won't eliminate the possibility of overtraining as there's a large cns component. It's not simply muscles needed protein...

    training hard

A lot goes into reaching a state of over training. Training a body part twice a week won't get you there by default. There are other considerations such as volume, relative intensity, rest, nutrition, etc. I would wager you're not close but we'd need much more info to determine the liklihood

Need help with biceps and calves

I would argue deads have a heavy hip emphasis by default but it's still not the same as an olympic pull. The technique is different as is the end result. With deadlifts, explosive or not, you wouldn't end up in the position below. It's a quick, probably poor example but it illustrates triple...

Things that have made the biggest difference in your training?

That's a winner. The 1st day of my internship I took a photo of the strength coach's bookshelf in his office and purchased just about every book off of it. I haven't finished reading them all yet but i'm working on it

    Creatine

If you're diabetic I would suggest taking a few days to review public research databases for research on the subject. With all due respect to many members here, don't entrust your health and safety to their opinions.

Eating right. 1000 cals a day...

It's going to depend on your size and activity levels. I'm in the camp that thinks you should attempt to lose weight with as many calories as possible. Weight loss is going to stall at some point regardless and you need a place to go. In addition, eating such a low amount of food will inevitably...
