    Starting Over

Hit a major milestone for myself. I was able to jog for 30 minutes on the treadmill, non-stop, 4 mph. Six months ago, I was riding in ambulances, being pushed in wheelchairs, and sitting in a hospital bed the rest of the time. I got my pacemaker, and started feeling better. I've made a lot of...

    Starting Over

Nothing new to report. I am just getting over back to back colds. I've only been to the gym 4 times in the past 2 weeks. I'm on the mend and plan to be back at it again this week. -TT

    Starting Over

Putting the workout on hold for a couple days while the firefighters put out the fire. The fire's not far from the gym, and the air is just terrible right now. I went outside this morning, and started coughing. I really like the Greg Doucettes videos. Yeah, it's funny. I lived in L.A. 30...

    Starting Over

I feel like I've spent about half my time in doctor's offices for the past week. I meet with a neurologist a week ago, and she believes that the weakness on my right side may have been caused by a little stroke resulting from my heart problems. This may be opening up a whole new can of worms. I...

    Starting Over

Thanks! I had a nurse friend look at it, and she just things the gal at RiteAid missed. I don't have a fever, but I didn't check my temperature until much later. The darn shoulder is still a little sore. It made shoulder press a real chore. Reverse fly was nasty too. It's getting better...

    Starting Over

Thanks! It's nice to be working my upper body again. I got a tetanus shot a week ago, and I don't know where this gal got her training, but she did not hit my medial deltoid. For the first few days, it was so bad, I could not lift my arm. Now, a week later, it just plain hurts to lift my arm...
  7. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

Well, I'm back to doing my push day, leg day, then my pull day, then cardio. My arm strength is about 1/3 what it used to be. Hopefully it will come back like the legs did. The surgeon told me I would be all healed up by November. Anyhow, I'm being really careful with the arms. I'm still...
  8. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

I'm adding upper body now. This past week, I've just keep really low weights and have been loosening up. Baby steps for now. I'm just using machines. Lat pulldown, row, and bicept curl. Military press, chest press, and dip. I got a new doctor. I'm still waiting on the cardiologist referral...
  9. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

As far as my goals... I try and set goals using the acronym "SMART" Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic / Relevant, and Time based. Because of the pacemaker surgery, I still don't have the green light to use my left arm. I suppose I can just work on the right arm, but I've decided to...

    Starting Over

Just had another earthquake. Well, I couldn't do much cardio at the gym. I took my beta blocker 3 hours before my workout, and it didn't work as well as I had hoped. Oh! 7.1 earthquake. 6.4 yesterday. Tomorrow is a new day. I plan to hit the gym early. -TT

    Starting Over

Morale booster: I maxed out 3 Life Fitness machines yesterday. Adductor, Abductor, and Glute. My goal for the remainder of the year will be to max out the leg extension machine. Having an earthquake! Jeez. -TT
  12. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

My adductor and abductor strength is coming back fast. I wish I could say the same for my quads. It will take time. My doctor wasn't much help. She looked in my ears, listened to my heart, but didn't listen to me. I go back on July 9th. I had a great workout this morning. I did legs today...
  13. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

I just got my Polar H10 heartrate monitor and to my surprise, my heart rate is through the roof. I skipped my cardio because of it. I'm hitting 166-188 bpm just walking. It's crazy! Fortunately, my blood pressure looks good: 100 / 70. Hopefully my doctor can come up with some suggestions. I...

Topic of the Week: What prevents you from reaching your goals?

Right now, it seems to be all health-related issues that are hampering my ability to achieve my goals. I'm recovering from pacemaker surgery so I don't have full use of my arm; my heart is beating out of control at even moderate levels of exercise. I'm visiting the doctor this Friday and hope...
  15. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

I had a slight setback yesterday. I got moved to another city. Fortunately they have a Fitness 19 club. Unfortunately, it's not walking distance. Things sure have changed at the gym. I'm getting so frustrated by folks sitting on the equipment, playing with their phones rather than working...
  16. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

Will do. I just started working out at a new gym... Fitness 19. Right now, I'm just doing the elliptical machine for cardio. For some odd reason, they have the heart rate monitoring function disabled. It's enabled for the Lifefitness treadmill and recumbent bikes but not for the elliptical...

    Heart palpitations

Punkrocker, I found metoprolol (beta blocker) helpful. I take 12.5 mg (half a pill) twice a day. Previously I was taking the betablocker "betapace" also called "sotalol. It made my very depressed and I lost my zest for life. I didn't want to take beta blockers either, but at least for me...

    Heart palpitations

I get heart palpitations too. Punkrocker, how long did you have the halter monitor? When they did mine for a day, they didn't find anything. When they did it for a whole week, using an iRhythm Zio, they found all kinds of stuff. But I assume they checked your thyroid, potassium levels...
  19. TINYTOAD

    Starting Over

It's a long story. I just got a pacemaker 3 weeks ago. Tonight was my first workout in a very long time. -TT

I know this sounds crazy, but the whole acupuncture / chiropractor thing seemed to really help. I was quite skeptical and was reluctant to go. Anyhow, I've actually been able to sleep pretty well these past few nights. I'm on the road to recovery. Still some pain, but nothing like before. -TT
