Too much animal-based protein could lead to early death

My rebuttal to the study. Invalid Link Removed I also engaged Longo directly on the original study. His response to me was basically "you are interested in bodybuilding, therefore you are baised and cannot be objective" Invalid Link Removed

    High protein diets cause cancer

I responded to one of the comments on my blog by writing this. I figured it may be useful for anyone who is having trouble following the math used by VDL et al.

    High protein diets cause cancer

Guys, if you are interested I have commented directly on the published study and have engaged the senior research (VD Longo). You can follow it unfold in the comments section here Invalid Link Removed

    High protein diets cause cancer

Perhaps you've seen the headlines. They are coming out everywhere, and based upon one (poorly interpreted) study. Here I break down the study, discuss what the results really mean, and propose a possible conspiracy within the food industry. Invalid Link Removed

    Workout splits

The above means nothing without (goals as mentioned) but also exercises, variables (sets x reps x rest x intensity), and progression-periodization plans.

    Help with training

Scapula dips, wall slides, bent over scaptions, reverse high incline db over head press, face pulls from an overhead position, band or cable scapula depressions. The lower traps are not as large as the uppers, so for overall mass in that area you would want to focus on the rhomboids, lats, and...

    Help with training

There is nothing wrong with a push/pull/legs split. It's an easy template to program from and follow. The problems arise when you throw the entire kitchen sink into the program without concern for balance and without foresight. Poke around the boards and you will see a number of people who...

    Help with training

22 sets involving shoulder flexion/horizontal adduction 15 sets involving shoulder extension/horrizontal abduction Volume aside, your program is poorly balanced. This will lead to aesthetically an overdevelopment of the front delts compared to the back and possibly pecs. Posturally you will...

FDA issues a scary TRT risk assessment

I agree with just about everything you stated. As a researcher, I am well aware of designing studies specifically to find significant findings, and the [very sad] fact that many medical and scientific journals will not publish work unless the findings are significant, regardless of the clinical...

FDA issues a scary TRT risk assessment

That's interesting Matrix. I was always under the impression estrogen was cardio-protective, at least from the stance of the blood lipid profile. Did the authors provide any speculation of mechanism? As I read through some of the related studies I notice many of them were done pre-trt days...

FDA issues a scary TRT risk assessment

For those interested, especially in educating others and/or those who may question you being on TRT, this is a great (and short) slide show of the risk factors of low T, risks (or lack of) associated with TRT, and a good critique of the studies that did "find" a relationship between TRT and...

Eat,get fat, dont eat, get skinny fat - Eat for blood type?

A bunch of psuedo science, extrapolations, and connecting the dots. I do find it slightly ironically funny that you critique the blood type diet with your...screen name :)

Eat,get fat, dont eat, get skinny fat - Eat for blood type?

It is complete BS. Your doctor is a dip**** if he promotes it, and "Dr." D'Adamo has a PhD in psychology, not an MD or anything even relevant. Here is the proof, published in a peer reviewed medical journal. Invalid Link Removed

    Betaine supplementation, performance and HCTL

All the research showing benefit has been done with 2.5g. I don't see a reason to go over 2.5-3g. The side effects at those dosages seem to be minimal, mostly GI distress...but we saw improvements in large men (>210 lbs) with 2.5 grams... So i don't think dose-mass ratio is a huge deal.

Protein Synthesis, close Two-a-days, and leucine

HI is high intensity LI is low intensity If you are really serious about two a day training, you need to account for fatigue - both neural and metabolic. You are training twice so you need to eat more to account for additional energy expenditure. Consider that each workout burns 600-1000...

    Betaine supplementation, performance and HCTL

Excellent question, and one that we do not know the answer to. I can only speculate that since it is a conditionally essential nutrient, though in small dosages, and it does not seem to (as far as we know) interrupt any natural biosynthesis of other compounds, you could use it indefinitely.

FDA issues a scary TRT risk assessment

I have seen these studies and their critiques. In study 1 it is observational, not controlled. What is the risk of heart disease and incidence in men with normal or low testosterone levels who have underlying conditions? And what was the time frame? We need to look at two things before...
