The answer is no and the answer you already said in stating you didn’t eat much protein. If you aren’t keeping up macros regardless of source and training then you will lose strength and size. Macros should preferably come from Whole Foods and only use supplements like a powder as needed.
If you have bloat issues you may want to stay away from dairy types whey/casein and look at vegan options or egg whites etc. If you are open on the flavors front BEAM and Ghost make some great vegan blends. However you will be to find a vanilla pretty easily from others as it's a staple type...
The stuff isn’t bad just because it might be beyond an expiration of that is the worry. Now improper storage is a completely different thing which can cause anything to ruin. Expiration dates are pretty much complete bunk on non organic supplements.
