    The OFFICIAL Guns/Firearms/Knives Thread!

LOL thanks man. Yeah, I've been shooting since I was about 10 years old. Been lifting weights since I was 14-15. Both are a huge part of my life.

Has anyone heard of the Mark Rippletoe Starting Strength?

You're on the right track to good advise. Mark Rippetoe is one of the greatest strength coaches in the world and his book is something I feel should be on the shelf of every weightlifters room. He teaches great form on how to squat, deadlift, power clean, bench press, barbell rows properly...

    Lift kits

I never thought about the wider tires thing. That's a great point. I had a Dodge Ram a while back with a leveling kit, which actually made it appear to be lifted. Gas mileage really doesn't bother me as I only drive 7 minutes to work one way and that's taking my time. I'm thinking about...

    i am for phil

I'm really proud to see so many young Christians on here and Phil Robinson supporters in general. I'm a huge supporter of Phil and Duck Dynasty myself. I went through here trying to rep a lot of you guys for standing tall on the subject, sorry if I missed anyone.

    Lift kits

Anyone on here familiar with lift kits? I.e. you've had one, know someone that has, have one, installed one, etc. I'm thinking about putting a lift kit on my Silverado, but I've heard mixed reviews on it. I've recently removed the front valance (for more ground clearance) but after getting...

    The OFFICIAL Guns/Firearms/Knives Thread!

I bought most of my guns before my wife and I got married, but luckily she's into firearms as well so there's pretty even attention on both sides. I have two .223 AR15's, both are Bushmaster. I keep one in my truck and one in the house. The handgun I carry on me is a Kimber .45 that I keep in...

    Anyone fish?

I guess for some people it could find good use... I'm an active hunter / fisher as well.

    What determines success?

I think this answer would really differ from each individual, but here's my thought - anyone that achieves their goals is in, within their own mindset, successful. Growing up, I wanted to have a lot of money and be really strong, today I have achieved both of those things. I'm benching in the...

    Squats or Deads

Both are extremely important. Infact, they're both the top most essential exercises for overall muscle growth. If you're asking which one we like better, I'll say deadlifts. I just love the grip strength, calluses it puts on my hands and extreme strength it puts in your forearms and lower back.

    k0ng's journey to greatness

It's been a while. I started a new job as an RN in a federal prison and work evening shift now. It took me a while to get used to, but I work from 3pm-12m and I honestly feel like I have more time than I did back working at the hospital. I've hit a few personal records, including a 600 lb...

Question about becoming a trainer/strength coach

Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't get online much these days since starting evening shift. To answer your question, NSCA is the hardest personal training organization, or at least they're considered the "top" organization by most. NASM was quite a bit easier. My weightlifting partner is...

Lower back pain on squats..only on smith machine

I think it's your body recognizing you shouldn't be in a smith machine. Solution - free weights barbell squat.

    k0ng's journey to greatness

Man it's been a while since I posted in this thing, but I've gotten a new schedule at work that I like much better so I have more time now to do the things that I like. I was working 6pm-6am 7 on/7 off at the hospital, but now I'm on a better set schedule at 2pm-12am 6 days and then I'm off for...

    ws4sb vs 5/3/1

^ Pretty much everything said here is great advice. Another thing I want to do add. I noticed you mentioned your "wide grip bench", I'm hoping that's used in reference to separate close grip bench (used as an accessory) from conventional barbell bench press. There's no use in having different...

    ws4sb vs 5/3/1

As mentioned by another poster, your muscles don't get used to workout routines, they only get "used to" stimulus. If you're using progressive resistance, then your giving your body new stimulus each workout. What that means is to add weight each week, or if you can't add weight add a rep, do an...

    ws4sb vs 5/3/1

I think most of the other posters already covered this, but don't do the program one week this and one week that. That's not enough time for any routine to serve as effective. You don't go from medicore to a success in a week. To become a Doctor it takes 8 years, to become a nurse in takes 2-4...

21s for huge growth or just a pump?

lol who would argue with Dave Tate? Do you even know who he is? He's one of, if not the smartest exercise guru on the planet.

21s for huge growth or just a pump?

I've been reading a little bit on this back and forth and I was a little confused until I saw his avatar, if he's from that Animal Pak forum, which is probably where he got his avatar from, there's no use in even arguing with him. They all think a pump should be the prime focus of everyones...

    How do Olympic lifters train?

The biggest mistake assumption people make about olympic lifters is that they train solely for power, speed-focused training only. Absolute strength has a lot to do with being able to perform a speed lift correctly, so olympic lifters often use compound, powerlifting movements as a method to...

21s for huge growth or just a pump?

21's are effective mainly because of the TUT (time under tension). You can increase overload through increased TUT (tempo change), increase in intensity, volume, decrease in the rest between sets. 21's allow you to focus more on the TUT, which can be a great tool for hypertrophy enhancement but...
