  1. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

I should be getting 2-3 g of that already with the magnesium glycinate I take.
  2. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

Would something that also works on gaba like ashwagandha or relora also help in a similar way? I've tried a couple adaptogens but never thought to take them before bed. I'm wondering if either of those would also be effective if increasing gaba levels/activity is the goal. The benefit being I...
  3. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

Gaba is one I haven't tried yet. Maybe I can pick some up at a store nearby to give it a quick try.
  4. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

Good suggestion. My wife takes ZMA at night. So, I had tried it and my sleep was really bad. I woke multiple times and couldn't get back to sleep after around 2 am. The weird thing was that I actually felt really good the next day. However, I figured the poor sleep would eventually catch up...
  5. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

Recently my wife suggested that maybe my cortisol levels are too high (high anxiety, shaky hands, poor sleep, etc.). That why I started taking ashwagandha. I've never tried an adaptogen before bed though. So, maybe that could help. I also have Relora on hand. So, maybe one of those during...
  6. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

No. However, I've seen it recommended a lot on here. Unfortunately, it contains l-dopa. In the past when I've tried l-dopa during the daytime, it seemed to make me very irritable my anxiety a lot worse.
  7. Need New Suggestions for Sleep Supplements

For some reason I've been having trouble sleeping the last few months. My "sleep hygiene" is good and don't need recommendations with regard to that (researched and implemented it a couple years ago). My standard supplements no longer seem to work well. I seem to fall asleep okay but wake...
  8. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

It appears I have the same reactions. About 30 minutes after trying 11 mg of zinc picolinate on an empty stomach I started to get extremely nauseous. Eating something did help some but I still feel pretty sick to my stomach. I won't be trying that again.
  9. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.
  10. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

Magnesium is a great recommendation. I take magnesium glycinate before bed. I occasionally use Cron-O-Meter to track my daily nutrients and it seems I'm consistently low in folate, zinc and magnesium but high in things like copper. Just in case there is even slight competition for absorption...
  11. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

I have a follow-up question if you don't mind. I've been reading that it's best to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach since things like calcium (and magnesium to a lesser extent) can compete with it for absorption. However, others state that zinc on an empty stomach makes...
  12. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

Okay. Thank you. I'm definitely more interested in the calming effect. I just take magnesium before bed to help me sleep. Based on the post by kboxer7, if I wanted 50 mg of elemental zinc then I would need to take 385 mg of zinc gluconate. It seems most supplements ignore what the zinc is...
  13. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

Wow! Can't imagine taking 600 mg. Well, I'm really taking 45 mg daily. The extra 30 mg was on top of the 15 mg I already take in my multivitamin. I've only been taking it for two weeks though. So far it seems to reduce my anxiety and irritability a lot. I'm much calmer at work and home...
  14. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

Thank you. So I really shouldn't exceed 30 mg daily?
  15. Zinc - Best Type and Optimal Dosage

I've noticed lately that taking an extra 15 mg of zinc twice each day has been having a very calming affect on my anxiety. It also seems to increase my libido a lot. I was wondering what the best type and dosage is for long-term supplementing? I see zinc picolinate mentioned a lot but it...
  16. Curcumin

Has it been shown to cross the blood brain barrier (to also help with mild anxity and depression) or would pretty much any extract do that? Longvida is the only one I know of with proof.
  17. Curcumin

I guess that's the main question I've been having about the non-longvida curcumin extracts. Longvida has evidence that it reaches the brain, the others don't have irrefutable proof but I haven't seen anything conclusive that they don't either. I guess that's where I get into anecdotal evidence...
  18. Curcumin

Maybe I'll try the meriva extract first since it's about half the cost of longvida. Cheaper options definitely appeal. I'm just not sure which extract would stack best with the lavender extract (silexan) I'm already taking to reduce anxiety. Lavender is working great for anxiety (through its...
  19. Curcumin

That's definitely what had me leaning towards longvida as the best option. However, with its much higher cost, I wanted to get others opinions before ordering it.
  20. Curcumin

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. It sounds like of the four extracts I mentioned that meriva and longvida might be the best options.
