I'm not sure if you need 5k kcal, but I think you should experiment. I'm cutting now and I'm trying very extreme diets, each for 2 weeks JUST for knowledge. 2 weeks for the sake of knowledge is nothing compare to the long run benefits.
My last meal of the day is usually 2 scoops of casein plus a handful of almonds. The goal is to eat the slowest digesting food to last my body through the nite.

I've gained 1lb/week before with lots of strength gains natty on a very very detailed bulk plan.
I think you shouldn't take them. Maltodextrin spikes too much insulin, resulting in fat gain.
