I’m just not that strong (yet)!

Totally agree with that. Our kids were all off this weekend so I may be feeling something off that. Sometimes you just gotta pinch the clock. As you and a lot of others have said… consistency is a superpower.

Yep, you know what build success? Daily, boring, repetitive habits. Showing up consistently and putting in the work! Nice job getting it done.

The only thing that has made my lifting remotely impressive is that I've stuck with it forever. A lot of times people ask me what I've done to get "x" and I sometimes don't know what to say other than well maybe just spend a decade (or more) at it then you'll be there too.

Getting back to the Leader/Anchor rhythm that I had when I was at my strongest a bit ago. Taking a proper deload week after just kinda winging it for a while. Let’s get dialed in.

Have a great day!

This is my first true deload and it’s feeling good. I was having just random days that I took off and I would treat that as my deload. Not smart. Anyway I’m starting to feel ready for my next block.

deloads are always a mind game. I haven't taken a legit deload in like 8 years but with my new programming I know they will be programmed in. I'm thinking when my deload weeks arrive, I'll probably not touch a barbell at all and either rest more or just do some GPP / cardio stuff.

That’s not a great way to maintain the skill of strength. Doing an easy 3x5 at 50-60% on the big 3 (or whatever your biggest barbell lifts are) in the deload week will make the next week back go way smoother vs nothing. Taking a full week off the skilled lifts basically ensures detraining them. Which, the point is to shed fatigue, not decondition/detrain.

The only time a week off is generally warranted from a strength perspective would be for psychological rejuvenation/vacation, or healing from minor injuries etc. After a big push, family/life things, aching whatever that needs a rest.

historically that was how I deloaded, but the past few years have been the second approach (forced deloads due to travel etc) and man they do leave the mental faculties feeling rejuvenated

Well I said regarding maintaining strength. The right move is to still train some, but very light compared to usual. If you take a complete sabbatical from lifting every 4-8 weeks, you won’t make good progress. Things like vacation are often only 1-2x a year.

are you using a jump rope on these? When I write conditioning work I tend to target specific timeframes like 6 minute springs, vs 8-12 minute sessions, and the occaasionally 20min conditioning effort. they can be miserable but man I feel like they pay dividends and just feel so good. literally feels like cleaning all the crud out of the lungs/system.

Yes they are with a jump rope. A lot of my conditioning work lately has taken inspiration from the Tactica Barbell books.

Not that much of a “g” yet! Haha
when I first went into the xfit world back around 2012 (maybe earlier??) I spent about 5-10 minutes every single day practicing double unders for like 6 months before I could string them together. that sounds pretty retarded for a guy who's been an athlete his whole life, but I rememberr they did take me a while to really truly do them well. I got really into them at one point, had an expensive RX brand speed rope, and I think my best was around 171 or something strung together (pushing 200). I knew I could consistently hit 100 in a minute. That was peak for me, lol. now days if I can fit them in, they're such a nice littler burner inbetween things like your kb swings etc. serious calf and achilles work too haha
