As a nation build on immigration, MANY Americans have served in other militaries, both before and after becoming citizens. The US military even sends Marines to do basic training with my unit in Israel, and vice versa. THe bottom line is that when I graduated high school, joining the US military meant peacekeeping missions, not much else. Israel experienced several massive terror attacks while I was there, and that spurred me to stay and help. Israel needed me, the US didn't.
