I completely agree with this assessment and have found that as soon as I prioritize the technical aspects of the lift, that lower weights begin to feel as they should.
I prefer working on the back as well if for the only reason that my chest is the very first thing to go in a detrained scenario. It's always been like this for me...I just don't use my chest as much as others do in my typical day-to-day activities...

Though I prefer to sleep cool, I have found my infrared mattress pad to be a great way to speed up recovery during sleep, particularly for the posterior chain.
It would be safe to assume so, yes. Regardless, I still stack sodium bicarbonate with creatine and have been drinking alkaline water for the same reason as well (it can't hurt and might possibly help).
