Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Laughed so hard at that last part. You'll be good man. I'm getting worried about making myself cut if I do decide I wana do a meet at 181. I hate cutting.

I'm doing the 220 bulk, compete at 198. I wish I could be competitive at 220 but with guys pulling 800-900 at that weight I'd be at a huge disadvantage ...

my goal is to not have to cut before the meet. I want to be where I should be and strong

That's what I am talking about. I wouldn't of had to 3 weeks ago. But the pounds and strength have been piling on and I am not sure how to feel. I am sure to gain on the stuff I'm on now... lol. Guess I need to shoot for 198 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal huh.

Pffft, that's how I feel at 198. Guys cutting from 225 = no chance.

I'd be a huge 165...if that's even possible...

It's a shame really. The 198-220 class is where all the action is so that's where you'll see the largest diffs in lifting capacity. Sure I could cut down to 180 to compete but why would I want to do that and waste all my hard work...

I don't know dude, rodja's buddy Alex cut from 227 to 198 in a week for APF Masters Nats. Still squatted 784 and set a WR bench at 579. So, the decrease in performance debate begins in

Fair enough. I've only done a serious cut once before and I was very impressed with how little strength I lost if any at all

Matt Kroc cuts about 20 lbs the night before a comp sometimes...rehydrates after weigh in and says he is gtg.

lean AF right there if you did. I think I am gona go to 198 and then try and lean out back down... or keep going to 220 and come back to 198. Just gona worry about strength for now and not screw myself over trying to play with weight just yet.

Yeah, he said it is miserable as hell to do.

Side note: My son started 5/3/1 in December at 198 lbs. He has been killing it in the gym and eating like a beast...230 weight yesterday.

He played hockey at a very high level but now is in school studying to hopefully be a D1 strength coach somewhere. He is interning now in the strength program at his D1 school. He did his first pwr lifting comp a couple months ago.

Hah, he's getting worried now because he wants to stay in the 220 class and he can't stop putting weight on.

No way in hell I'm working my way into this compilation lol

Russian *******s and they're lifting.

You can get there. Better yet marry a russian chick and raise monster babies.

I'm amazed at these guys walking out that much weight. The guy even walks it out from the few mono-lifts I saw being used. Crazy!!

Its nuts. I think I'm most impressed with the lighter guys. You see them pushing close to the same weight as the 198&220 class in the vid.

So, low carb today. Debating medium tomorrow (DE squats), low Friday (off), High Saturday (upper), Medium or low Sunday (off)

Check out the stats on this guy: Brian Schwab

Crazy strength at those light weights!

Compare his head and chin position to mine. I have way above a neutral head position and chin is broken far out.

The neck needs to be "packed" as they say. You don't just drop it down to your chest. You retract your head backwards and keep it aligned with your spine, not craned or looking up.

Wasn't that last clip with Malanichev taken from a raw competition from like 2011-2012, or am I full of it?

Stretch/Foam Roll/Mobility

2 minutes mash each
IT Band/Abductor/Glute/Quad/TSpine

Static hip flexor stretches. Then those banded
mobility exercises posted earlier along with some hip circles.

Normally I can apply as much pressure as I want to my IT band and abductors but they were hurtin today.

Nice and loose now, I'll be set for squats tomorrow. Plan on doing some doubles around 80% in full gear to find depth in them, and then some heavy SSB reps and something for the hammies.

First low carb day was good. Probably around 150g. Medium day tomorrow. 25% pre/50% post, 25% at dinner for carbs.

Cube Method-Squats

Squat w/ suit bottoms
455x2x4

EFS Yoke Bar
355x5x5, last set paused in hole each rep

Reverse Hyper
BWx15x4

Back Raises
BWx10x3

Nothing too heavy today. Still recovering from last weeks squat and Mondays pulls.

I believe my depth issue lies with my stance in the suit. I tried diff widths, toe angles, oly shoes and chucks. Using my raw stance, the suit feels ultra tight on the abductors and it stops me. I brought my stance out a few inches to have my legs in the same groove as the suit leggings and I achieved depth much easier.

Those SSB squats were an ab workout enough! I'll hit up core tomorrow, and full body accessory Saturday.

Narrow-Weight shifted onto balls of feet and knees causing a forward shin angle and change in center of gravity, even in chucks and diff toe angle

Wide-Hips and knees opened easier, more glute activation and 'sat back' easier, weight on heels

Totally improved with the second set up...groove was found. Lol

Nice to be able to see the difference. Need to take my wife with me to get some photos and vids of my action tonight.
