My name is Jeff Pearson and I am 32 years old. I compete in strongman and powerlifting. I have done Highland games as well, but mostly just compete in the first two. I am currently training for North American Strongman Nationals in Texas. On September 28th 2013 I did a powerlifting meet raw drug tested totaling 1945 lbs. My squat was 804, benched 430, and deadlifted 711. I weighed in at 307.8 lbs. I have been competing for a year and a half now and have always been drug free. My early powerlifting total a year ago was 1644 at 275 lbs weight class. 6 months ago I totaled 1809 at 308.
The start for me in strength athletics came in 2011. I had been training for MMA and was walking around at around 215 at about 12% body fat. While skateboarding I ended up compound dislocating me thumb. This set back my training and not long after this I broke my foot at work, so I was no longer able to train. I just sat around playing video games and got fat. When I was healed up I decided that I was fat already, might as well just go get as strong as I can.
My goals are to qualify for the Arnold Fitness Expo amateur strongman contest at nationals. Next year I plan on getting my squat up to 900, bench 500, and deadlift 800. My bench is always my weak point for powerlifting and I aim to fix this next year. So I aim to total 2200 lbs next year. .
I do not eat for having a nice physique, I eat and train to be the strongest in the world. My current macro break down is 41% carbs, 29% fat, and 30% protein. I try to eat around 8-10,000 calories a day. For supplements I use Animal Pak, Animal Omega, Animal Flex, Animal pm, Optimum Nutrition casein protein, Optimum Nutrition hydro whey, Universal torrent, Beast aminolytes, and Universal shock therapy.
I train 6 days a week taking Sundays off. My training times change as I am doing my last term of college finishing my BA in philosophy. I train at least 4 hours a day but have been known to train 6 more often than not. My training split is Monday upper body, Tuesday lower body, Wednesday strongman event day, Thursday lower, Friday upper, Saturday event day, Sunday rest.

I did not train Friday or Saturday as I went to Seattle, Washington for the Bacon Beat down Strongman contest were my training partner competed. It was a great contest and a lot of fun. I helped out setting up Friday evening and helped with the clean up Saturday afternoon so I got a chance to practice with the implements and just keep loose. I wont be training Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday as I am leaving Wednesday for North American Strongman Nationals in Denison, Texas. So I should be back to training October 20th.

This last weekend I competed in North American Strongman nationals in Denison, Texas. It was a two day competition. On the first day I caused a small tear in my quad and ended up zeroing on all three events. The events the first day were a 325 axle clean and press away, wheelbarrow loading medley with a 230, 250, and 270 keg, and a car deadlift. Needless to say I was not pleased with how I performed the first day, so I wrapped my quad tightly with an ace bandage and tried to bring it for day two. The first event was a 850 yoke 730 frame carry medley. I got the yoke down easy enough, but bringing back the frame i made it about half way before my quad gave out. The next event was an overhead medley with a 310 axle, 270 keg, 350 log, and a 210 dumbbell. I got the axle and the keg and spent too much time on the log. The final event was stone carry and load over a bar. The bar was 56" and there were three stones 15 feet away from the bar at weights of 280, 320, and finally 350. I loaded the first two, however the carry did not feel to good on my quad. I picked the third stone, but could not carry it. I ended up finishing 50 out of 64. Not my best performance, but now I can just get stronger for next season.
Nationals ended Saturday and I did not come back to Oregon until Monday evening. I spent Sunday and Monday morning working on stretching and rehab for my quad. There is still some discomfort in my quad, but I headed back to the gym to work it out and do some lifting. I think my leg will be fine, I am just going to listen to my body and do what I can do in my training. So this was my Tuesday training:

What's the Viper press?
The viper press is where you do log press except instead of loading it in the rack position on your chest, you just press it all the way through. So clean it up to your lap, then from your lap go to lock out overhead

I do not live in TX and just realized my intro makes it sound as if I do. I live in Oregon and was preparing for nationals in Texas. I take videos of all my competitions and try to do videos of my training when i remember my camera. My youtube channel is user name TheRagnavok or you can just search Ragnavok and my vids should pop up.

I have not posted in a couple months as I have been very busy. My father has stage 4 cancer and I am is caregiver. He has been doing chemo for 14 months now and the last couple months were pretty rough for him. My time was spent in and out of emergency rooms and his regular hospital visits. I have still been training and working on getting stronger I just haven't had the time to keep up with my log.
This last Sunday I did the Hardcore Powerlifting NW Championships. I ended up hurting my knee on my second squat so scratched my third. I could not bend my leg without pain and as such could not use leg drive on my bench and deadlifts were rather exciting. I just got very angry and went out and pulled. I really wanted to hit 2000 lbs total but it just did not happen. I won the SHW division with a 1950 total and placed second overall.
I am planning on writing in my log everyday again, but it will be dependent on how my father is doing.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I hope for the best.

Also, regardless of the injury, good job on your awesome total.

So I just recently competed in the Hardcore Powerlifting NW Championships and did not accomplish the goals I had set forth for myself. This caused me to sit down and reassess my training to ensure I am doing all I should be doing to reach my goals. Looking at my training I realized that I have been spending far too much time coaching others and helping them with their success instead of focusing on my own. I've put together a new routine and have stopped taking all my stimulant supplements and change my diet to being far cleaner than it was. I'm now training twice a day 4 days a week and two other days once a day. I am focused completely on my goals now and have a new drive to accomplish great things. My main focus is now on my gains and my own success. Everybody can come up with some dream or goal but it takes drive to cut through the crap and get it. Time to get it. This next year I will be coming with a vengeance.
