Full Body Workouts vs 1-2 Muscle Groups

I've noticed better results with "full body workouts", when it comes to getting lean. I need to put on size though! :\

Would I be better off working heavier on my full body workouts, or isolating muscle groups with a 1-2 muscle group per day, workout?

Combine the best of both and do a push/pull/lower body or upper/lower body split.
