I feel this needs to be posted - Me, My Brain, and ALCAR

Page 11 of 11 First ... 91011

  1. Sorry I know this is a slight change of subject.

I am totally new to using nootropics, heard it will help with focus and memory so I purchased ALCAR from MindNutrition and vinpocetine , started using it 4 days ago , alongside regular ginkgo biloba and multivitamins.

    My schedule is below:

    ALCAR 500mg 3 separate times a day
Vinpocetine 10 mg 3 separate times a day
Ginkgo Biloba 120 mg once a day
    Multivitamin once a day

Atm haven't felt any difference , how long does it usually take to kick in?

  2. There will be some focus increase initially that will get stronger after prolonged use, esp in the case of memory retention, I'd say give it at least a month or 2...

I have been taking noots and cognitive boosters for many years and the items you have listed never did anything for me other than provide a nice headache. Gingko is fine, but not worth the money, imo.

Have you tried FocusXT at all? it sounds like it's what you may be looking for, esp as you are just starting out dabbling in noots...1 scoop a day, could then add in 500mg-1g extra ALCAR at a different time of the day...

Could U shed some light on the effects I get from Focus-xt ?? If I use it daily or even four or five times a week I feel pretty focused, happy, and really content for about two hours and then I crash and feel kinda depressed rest of day. If I take a serving every week to ten days I feel GREAT all day, wondering why regular use effects me negatively....

That's odd, as most users don't report a crash of any sort. I could see the "euphoric" feeling dissipating as time progresses, however not sure of the depressed feeling afterwards.

I crash hard. I've thrown away 2 tubs. Just doesn't work for me.

  10. Focus xt crashes me too, but doses of alcar by itself (1g) doesnt, I figure its the choline, as I think I get plenty of choline from my diet, and too much (or too little) choline can cause problems...

Could also be caffeine if you're extremely sensitve.

  12. No, its not the caffeine, ive tested that separately and together.

  13. Sorry to bump this thread but I have two questions....

    1) do these relatively high doses you guys take give you any anxiety? Because alcar can be associated with anxiety.
    2) has anyone tried the NOW brand alcar caps? I've been using them and I was wondering if any of you thought it was better/worse than other branda.

I've never noticed any anxiety from ALCAR. The most I dose in a bolus is 2g, and typically a max of 3g overall a day.

NOW should be fine. I prefer SNS caps.

I'm a Brooklyn boy I may take some gettin' use to

  16. I've gotten very minor anxiety from ALCAR but the higher doses give me some rather pronounced insomnia. Don't be afraid to use far smaller doses. You can still reap some of the benefits and avoid the side effects.

  17. My wife has anxiety, and is extremely sensitive to anything that exacerbates it. And she's never had any issues with ALCAR.

    How much does she take?

  19. Anyone else want to talk about their experiences with alcar and anxiety?

  20. I can't take it because of that exact reason. It makes me so uncomfortable and tense. I am really sensitive to Alcar and huperzine as they both get me agitated.

Yeah its weird because the first time I took it I didn't experience that. I just felt amazing. Then after taking it for around 2 months I thought I was getting tolerant so I stopped for a while. When I started up again I felt a very uncomfortable, jittery, over stimulated feeling.

  22. I've tried it multiple times with the hope that I could experience what others report and unfortunately it is just not for me.

Yeah I'm the same way, I "might" feel something very little sometimes...
